At the close of one of the missions, what appears to be a Shadownet operative,dressed similarly to Splinter Cell protagonist Sam Fisher, boards the same chopper as the player-character. In Chaos Theory it is revealed there are many more splinter cells other than Fisher and Tom Clancy's games are known to cross-reference each other. In the bathhouse, a meeting takes places between Shetland and a Japanese I-SDF contact named Kaneda, along with two bodyguards. The meeting turns hostile and the bodyguard yells out Kaneda's name before shooting Shetland's henchman. Kaneda then yells out his bodyguard's name, Tetsuo, before Shetland shoots Tetsuo. This is a reference to Katsuhiro Otomo's animated film, Akira, in which the two main characters are named Kaneda and Tetsuo.
