The right mix of everything

Warning: Spoilers
It seems that with Martin Scorcese remaking the HK blockbuster Infernal Affairs, we definitely know where the new Hollywood is. Asian directors continue to produce great movies that put the garbage coming out of the states to shame. Some is one such movie. Having gone into it expecting a typical cop drama I was pleasantly surprised.

It's hard to describe the plot in this movie without spoilers, since the plot kind of unfolds with every twist and turn. We first meet Kang Seong-ju, a young detective on the trail of a gang of loosely organized members who have gotten in way over their heads. It's not long before he encounters Seo Yu-jin, a charming news reporter who seems to hold the key to the mystery at hand. As Kang attempts to unravel the the clues and track down a mysterious name, Yu-jin is haunted by deja vu. She is sure that the two have met before, and begins to experience visions.

The story was pretty well written. Not too over the top, and the twists were not so confusing as many directors try to do. The thing that really made this movie work was that it took care not to lean too much into one genre that it became stereotypical. IMDb lists it as an Action / Crime / Mystery movie and certainly it contains just the right portions of all those. They even threw in just a touch of Sci -Fi to make it that much more interesting. All together, this is a movie cocktail guaranteed to please.

Nice dreamy thriller.
magnussang7 December 2007
This is a nice movie. The dreamy sequences in this movie gives it a wee bit of a surreal edge. The actors and the plot is nice and even if it's not the ultimate masterpiece, it's got a nice atmosphere to it. I forgot everything else when I watched this movie, which is as good a rating I can give to a non-masterpiece. I like Korean movies since the urban feeling of the west is there, but with the nice spice of the Korean culture with it's peculiarities. This is just another one of a large number of good korean movies I have seen the last years. And I would like to say just that - it's got enough freshness to provide a nice alternative to what-you-have-already-seen-5000-times-boredom. Do not miss it.

Some - little known
kosmasp12 April 2020
A thriller that seems to be little known ... and forgotten by me too. Had the DVD from Korea for probably 15 years ... just came around to watch it. Liked what I saw despite the flaws that are there. Story is interesting to say the least. We have characters that are quite out there and the actors are really good too.

Some is a investigating thriller and it really is suspense filled. With a touch of fantasy to elevate it. Maybe the idea of the female character could have been explored more, so we'd seen more of her "ability" or get more of it ... get a thorough investigation of what this could mean. But as it is, this is an edge of your seat thriller that is succesful

Confusing story
phd_travel5 May 2020
This cop movie about drugs is badly told. Bad screen play. The premonition thing isn't properly integrated. It's confusing. Too bad the production and cast are good. Don't bother.

enough freshness and life to make a worthy watch
Icarus_geo11 May 2005
This is a tough movie to define. It's certainly catching, well paced and intriguing. My friend kept asking me why this and why that, I didn't know the answers but I was almost sure that the end will enlighten those darker areas the plot kept feeding. Well, despite leaving some empty spaces and loose threads, you get the feeling of a well rounded story telling, and end up forgiving or even thanking it for having enough freshness and life to make you feel that it's a worthy watch. After this kind of movies, it's going to be harder every time to go back to the big budget rotten American formula that's been rotting us for far too long. Perhaps some morons at Hollywood might realize that in movies, money doesn't make up for the lack of talent.
