A tale of the close relationship between a boy and his grandfather.
"Mimi" (Bernard Haller) is a collector of memories, all stored as "sounds" in tin cans. He shares them with his grandson "Cricket" (Maxence Perrin).
When Mimi dies, Cricket has a very hard time coming to grips with it, and we see several scenes from their times together, as a series of flashbacks from Cricket's memory.
Mimi has requested to be cremated, a ritual which doesn't set well with his son (Bernard Blancan), but even more so with his daughter-in-law (Natalia Dontcheva). She complains bitterly about his choice of interment, focusing on what the village will think of it as opposed to a "regular" burial.
We see from Cricket's flashbacks that Mimi dreamed of flying away, and we gather from his final wishes that he wanted to have his ashes scattered on the beach to fulfill that dream.
No one at the funeral wants to be the one to empty the can containing the ashes, but Cricket's mother finally relents to do it. But just as she's about to take the lid off, Cricket rushes up and takes it from her hands, to do it himself.
We then see the significance of Mimi shouting into a tin at the very beginning of the film...
I found this little film to be very moving, seeing the close relationship Cricket had with Mimi.
If you run across it, please watch it - you'll be much better for it!
