ROME -- Newcomer Rian Johnson's Brick will be the sole U.S. film at this year's Venice International Film Festival's Critics Week sidebar, organizers said Thursday. Brick is described as a murder mystery set on the campus of a Southern California university. Six other films will unspool at the sidebar, which runs Aug. 31-Sept. 10. They are: Mater natura (Mother Nature), by Italian director Massimo Andrei; the French film Il passagero, by director Eric Caravaca; Asi, by Mexican director Jesus-Mario Lozano; the Irish film Pavee Lackeen, by Perry Ogden; Kuihua Duoduo, by Chinese director Wang Baomin; and Yadasht Bar Zamin, by Iranian director Ali Mohammad Ghasemi.
