J.J. Garvine (writer/director) met many of his cast and crew - including Jamie Snow (Principal Johnny), Khalil Wilson (Bomb Threat), Ron D'Aiuto (Pompous Boy), Melanie Thompson (Cold Jenny), Tonya Shatley (Dorothy), and producer Tai Parquet - while working at a bank in Newark, Delaware. The bank has since closed.
The original name of Principal Johnny was Johnny Castle, named after the Patrick Swazye character in Dirty Dancing (1987), and there were several Dirty Dancing quotes/jokes that were used for reference. They were all dropped by the second draft and the character was renamed Johnny Wellington, Jr.
