NBC’s The Player cashed out on Thursday night, wrapping its truncated nine-episode run with an hour that left the House down a man, while adding a new twist to the Ginny mystery.
RelatedThe Player: NBC Trims Down Season 1 Order to Just Nine Episodes
The final episode of the one-half-and-done action-drama largely followed two stories: Alex’s search for Fuller, a former U.S. Marshal-turned-forger who helps criminals evade law enforcement and is believed to have had a role in Ginny’s vanishing, and Cassandra’s abduction/interrogation by Special Agent Nolan’s team.
Mr. Johnson, meanwhile, met with Miles Drentell,...

Making a movie is a tough business as it is, but these filmmakers took it upon themselves to make the task that extra bit harder, the mind-blowing result cementing them in the annals of film history forever more.
The fact of the matter is that there are so many incredible long takes out there, that whittling it down to just 10 really isn’t sufficient – as a result, classic shots in A Touch of Evil, The Shining and The Player didn’t quite make the cut – but instead we’ve opted for a well-rounded mix of all genres and time periods for 10 insanely long movie takes that changed cinema forever.
Whether they broke new technical ground, tricked us in ways we didn’t think we could be tricked, or just made us pay attention to a very special acting talent, these 10 shots changed the way we view cinema in one way or another…...

With the Oscars only hours away, many of the categories look pretty much sewn up, and no doubt in La right now, sure-thing winners are putting final touches to their speeches for the big night.
One of the few categories the still very much an open field is Best Adapted Screenplay, with Argo, Life of Pi and Silver Linings Playbook all possible winners.
We caught up with Argo screenwriter Chris Terrio last week, when he made a flying visit to London for the BAFTAs, and it turns out we weren’t the only ones, as Terrio explains:
Chris Terrio: I had a meeting with Paul Greengrass, I’m working on this film that Clooney’s going to be in that Paul and I are doing, so we’d planned to get together and talk, and then with the delay everything got pushed back.
HeyUGuys: Was that in the UK you were meeting Paul Greengrass?...

11. Zama – Dir. Lucretia Martel
Why This Makes Top 10: At number eleven we have Argentinean filmmaker Lucretia Martel’s latest film, her first since 2008’s The Headless Woman (a film that critics were slow to warm to, but ended up being on many a best end of year list in 2008/2009). Previous titles include her stunning debut, 2001’s La Cienega, along with 2004’s The Holy Girl. Her latest is a period piece based on the novel by Antonio de Benedetto and will be produced by Lita Stantic, El Deseo (the Almodovar Bros’ company), as well as a still to be named French producer. Martel is one of the most prolific names to come out the New Argentinean Wave and this looks to be a massively mounted period piece we’re eager to get a look at.

Robert Mariano was just another Boston guy working construction, until he took his talents to the island and became Boston Rob. Four seasons of Survivor, two seasons of The Amazing Race, one season of a poker reality show we’ve tried very hard to forget, and even an appearance on Upn’s The Player as “The Player Operator” later, the professional reality star is now moving over to History for his new show Around The World in 80 Ways (debuting this Sunday). Special cohost for a day Courtney Yates (Mariano’s former tribemate on Heroes vs Villains) joined me on the...

UPN's Amish in the City rebounded a little bit Wednesday in its third outing after taking a dive in its second airing last week. Amish brought in 4 million viewers and a 1.9 rating/6 share in the adults 18-49 demographic at 8 p.m., according to Nielsen Media Research. With little competition, Amish was up 12% in adults 18-49 compared with its second airing but up 27% week-to-week in adults 18-34 (1.9/7) and up 25% in women 18-34 (2.5/8). UPN's 9 p.m. newcomer The Player, however, is doing a fast fade, drawing only 2.2 million viewers in its second week. NBC won the night overall on the strength of Law & Order repeats. Fox tied the peacock for the nightly win in the adults 18-49 demographic with its two-hour telecast of the Teen Choice Awards.
