Sex & Nudity

  • There are medical discussions that mention sex for medical and treatment reasons.
  • There are occasional mild sexual references made throughout the show.
  • Quite a few sex scenes throughout the series but there is no nudity. You might see characters in their underwear but nothing else.

Violence & Gore

  • Scenes aren't always graphic, but are occasionally gory and can involve surgeries, blood, critical injuries, and even death. Some episodes deal with shootings, explosions and other violent incidents.
  • This show contains blood which can be very shocking or disturbing to a lot of viewers or even fans. This is why this show was rated TV-14. TV-14 means that the program may not be suitable for those under 14.
  • This series has a lot of blood throughout. This series has been rated TV-14 due to strong violence, suggestive dialogue, sexual content, and language.
  • A woman is shot once in the head in Season 6. It shows the blood from where she got shot.
  • I started watching the show when i was 11/12 and i never really found any of the scenes disturbing there where some shoking deaths but nothing really disturbing.
  • As this is a drama based on surgical interns, there are elements of gore throughout the series. Displays of a variety of different surgeries are shown including internal organs, blood and dead bodies.
  • There is some violent content throughout with characters involved in fights or being attacked but this is limited to specific episodes. These scenes are brief and not detailed.

Profanity

  • Bitch, ass, and damn are said occasionally.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Characters get drunk and do shots.
  • Drugs used in a medical context are used, like morphine and fentanyl
  • Use of alcohol is present in almost every episode, most commonly tequila.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Some viewers may find hospital scenes with surgery and blood distressing.
  • Most of the episodes can be very emotional and sad to alot of viewers.
  • Usually moderately bloody, but there are more frightening scenes eg towards the end of season 4 there is a jump scare: an artery pops and there is blood everywhere, it is show in two episodes
  • In season 6 there is a hospital shooting and a lot of people die and are physically wounded and traumatized.
  • In different episodes, themes of abuse, suicide, shooting/violence, miscarriage, loss of people in different facets of relationships, PTSD, other mental health issues, child death, and intimacy struggles are present
  • Some episodes revolve around domestic violence.
  • Some of the plot lines can be disturbing and sad for some viewers. There are some frightening and intense scenes and is not an overarching theme for the series. The deaths of major characters can be intense and emotional to watch

Violence & Gore

  • There's a shooter in Season 6 who shoots people. Some die, and we see closeups of bullet wounds and all the blood gushing everywhere.
  • There is a plane crash in Season 8 where there are many injuries. Lexie is killed while under a part of the plane and is crushed. Mark is killed later in season 9 after not recovering from his injuries. Arizona loses a foot which is also revealed in season 9

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A character is revealed to be an alcoholic
