A waste of a license

Ghostbusters II was a pretty average movie and not a good video game. I got this for my Commodore 64 way back in 1989. And I paid full price for it too (a whopping £9.99) and it came in one of those over-sized cardboard boxes. It looked like it should have been great. It wasn't. Basically, there were 4 levels, all with different gameplay. Which would have been fine if the first level were not so bloody hard.

Remember that scene in the movie where Ray got lowered deep into the sewers and discovered a river of slime? Well it's that scene that makes the first level. You control Ray as he descends, trying to avoid big hands coming out of the walls and other little nasties. If they got too close the rope snapped and you fell into oblivion. It was too hard. The rope always snapped.

Luckily though I figured out a cheat and managed to play the other 3 levels in which you played the Statue of Liberty as it stomped through New York and took on Vigo inside the museum. But nothing seemed to ease my anger at the difficulty of the first level. Not a good game and certainly not one I would rush out to buy. The graphics and gameplay were at their best on the Amiga and DOS versions of this game if you simply must though.

Another disappointing Ghostbusters game :(

I actually think I prefer the first game on the NES to this one. Sure it was no picnic and it was annoying going up that staircase, but this one is a pain. A poorly planned pain. First off, my main complaint about the game. So how many of you kids enjoyed Ghostbusters like I did? I bet a whole slew of you. What was the coolest piece of equipment they had? That is easy, the Proton Pack that shot out the coolest laser ever! The sequel would come along and during the last battle two of the ghostbusters would have this weapon and the other two the slime canisters. The slime canisters were okay, but if I was at the final battle I would want the proton pack of course. So what do we get here? We get the slime shooter, for the entire game! What? Excuse me, they did not even use it till the final battle with Viggo! Why must we as a gamer be forced to use this incredibly lame weapon instead of the trademark proton packs? Rip off! I mean, even in the only Ghostbusters game I sort of liked, the one where they had big heads for the Sega you do not really get a cool proton pack type weapon. No there, they elect to give you Contra type bullets and such. As far as game play, it is annoying, but doable. You have your driving stage that is hard as heck and side scrolling levels. They do take things out of the movie, but it just is not all that fun. Why not give you power ups so that you could use different weapons and so on. The slime gun just is not very fun to use, and this game is just not all that fun to play either.

Ghostbusters II!

Ghostbusters II is one of the most exciting video games! The characters, the action, the scariness and the sure thrill of excitement makes this game a fun non-stop playing time! Below is a brief look how I think the game is!

Game Play: The game play is very good. There is really basic controls here and is easy to perform. Novice gamers should have a good time here!

Graphics: The graphics are wonderful especially for the Nintendo System! The backgrounds are really beautiful!

Difficulty: The game is easy but as it goes on you find out that it will become more difficult!

Music: The music is great! Just fantastic catchy tunes through out the game! In My opinion its some of the best music ever in a video game!

Sound: The sound is great. Nuff said!

Overall: I have always loved Ghostbusters II! If you like scary and action adventure games then I strongly recommend you play this game!
