"A Day In The Life Of A Punk"- This is what I love about Dave Markey's documentaries, they put you right in the thick of it. This one in particular has an intense and intimate feel with it's time, place, and subject. And if you are a fan of that particular time and place (Los Angeles early eighties hardcore punk underground), then chances are you'd be hard pressed to find a rival. Sure "The Decline 1 was obviously an influence, but Markey's film is singularly unique, even from other punk rock doc's, even his own. Perhaps it was his being a musician, and his friendships / relationships with the bands in this film that make this one different (Circle One, Sin 34, Symbol Six, The Cheifs, TSOL, Circle Jerks, Fear, Red Cross, and Henry Rollins' first gig ever with Black Flag.) This, and an odd sense of humor that was missing amongst much of the So Cal punk scene at the time. A scene that will be looked at, again and again, throughout generations of music fans. This is the real deal.
