I saw this performance of Thorton Wilder's Our Town when I was 12 years old, in 1959; but, it has stayed in my memory ever since then. It wasn't until about the 1980's that another production of this play was made for TV, jogging my memory and making me long to see this older version. No production I have seen since, on TV or live on stage has had the impact that this 1959 production had. Seeing Art Carney outside his Honeymooner's character probably first piqued my interest. But, the writing and performances in this production still cause me to examine life, love, relationships, and the reason for human existence. One or two years ago I attempted to find information about this production using the internet; and, was unable to locate it searching under both Our Town and Art Carney. Today I was successful and it has brought great happiness to me. I will now seek to obtain a copy of this TV production and share it with my wife and family. If you ever get a chance to view this performance, I urge you to do so. The simple scenery, the emotional performances, the wonderful writing, the timeless plot, will hopefully touch your life as it has mine. Forty-four years has erased much of the specifics; but, it hasn't diminished the emotion. Give yourself the treat of seeing Art Carney as "Stage Manager" with an outstanding cast in the 1959 TV production of Thorton Wilder's "Our Town".

To "This has made my day!". I also am looking for a copy of the 1959 "Our Town" Art Carney TV Special. Can you tell me how you got it. My mother Mary Van Fleet played Mrs. Webb. If you were able to obtain it, I would be grateful to know what to do next. I heard about this TV special throughout my lifetime. I was not yet born when it was aired. My mother also did other TV shows of that time-live. For example "The DuPont Show of the Month".
