Store Planer

Directed by Jesper W. Nielsen (2005)

Store Planer follows the 38 year old Willy, who comes right out of jail, and tries to get his plan to a record deal. But Willy soon discovers that his dreams and BIG PLANS are very difficult and tough to obtain. The movie has two sideplots, his relationship with his 9-year old son - and Willy's romance with the girl next door.

The story is quite clichéd and doesn't show anything new. Nevertheless it is entertaining and has some few laughs in it. Thomas Bo Larsen is good in the lead, and Lene Maria Christensen is also quite okay as his female partner.

Warning: Spoilers
Store Planer was widely advertised and promoted Danish movie in the period of time when it was in theaters nearly a year ago. The lead actor is quite famous in Denmark. Now, after a long time I finally watched the movie.

Long story short, there is an old fashion "rocker" guy, "Willy", who goes in and out jail most of the time. He has a non-working band called "Winstons". The name is taken after John Lennon's middle name "Winston". He gets out of jail (again) and goes to his ex-wife's home to see his son and use 1 room. He learns that she has a new boyfriend. So, he decides to sleep over his old friend Svend's house who is also a member of the band. He meets with the hooker neighbor and reunites the band. I use both actions in one sentence because the hooker becomes the new lead singer of the band.

----- Spoiler------ After some funny (!) things Willy faces with his truth and decided to be an "average Lennon". He tells his case to his son and his son accepts him as he is. He looses the hooker girl due to a meaningless act, like sending her to a producer's bed. The band lives happily ever after. ----- Spoiler------

FINAL COMMENT: First of all, "Cool Willy" is not good. It does not work. I know he is a good actor but somehow it does not help. The hooker mess up the very important scenes, like telling him "why she become a hooker". The solo guitarist of the band is a drug addict and his brain always finds meaningless things to say in every occasion. But instead of this idea, if the director used him as a pod smoking Guru that tells meaningless looking things but it actually is meaningful if you deeply think about. Director loses this character from the beginning as he does by putting the immigrant drummer into a scene of just "the son of an older immigrant" Doesn't he have a life? Girlfriend? Movie has no chance out of Denmark !...
