Not too long ago, we were all living in the New Millennium, less affectionately known as the age of Y2K. Or if you want to be technical about it, it was the first decade of the 21st century. And during those 10 years, pop culture thrived. Not only did Nipplegate change the way we looked at Super Bowl halftime shows, but things like Laguna Beach made us rethink “reality,” Heath Ledger’s performance in The Dark Knight redefined the term “Oscar-worthy,” and Glee revived the television musical.

Pat Summerall was the calm alongside John Madden's storm. Over four decades, Summerall described some of the biggest games in America in his deep, resonant voice. Simple, spare, he delivered the details on 16 Super Bowls, the Masters and the U.S. Open tennis tournament with a simple, understated style that was the perfect complement for the "booms!" and "bangs!" of Madden, his football partner for the last half of the NFL player-turned-broadcaster's career. Summerall died Tuesday at age 82 of cardiac arrest, said University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center spokesman Jeff Carlton, speaking on behalf of Summerall's wife, Cheri. "Pat...

New England Patriots' fans are buzzing over the latest gridiron trade, as wide receiver Brandon Lloyd is headed to Gilette stadium in Massachusetts. The addition of the talented 30 year-old will give the championship team added edge to complement their formidable offense. The Pats have an exceptional recent history for NFL championships. Between 2001 and 2005, they became the second team in NFL history to win three Super Bowls in four years (Super Bowl Xxxvi, Xxxviii, and Xxxix), and the eighth (and most recent) to win consecutive Super Bowls. The New York Giants beat the Pats in Super Bowl Xlii, after winning the first 18 games of their 2007 season. They were defeated again by the New York...

On Sunday night, Madonna will join an exclusive club that includes the likes of Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, Diana Ross and, uh, Up With People when she performs at halftime of Super Bowl Xlvi in Indianapolis.
Yes, you'd be hard-pressed to find a bigger stage than the big game — last year's Super Bowl was watched by some 111 million Americans — which is why the producers of the halftime festivities always recruit the biggest stars to perform (except for 1999, when Big Bad Voodoo Daddy inexplicably found their way into the proceedings). And Madonna most certainly fits that bill, which is why, while we're not quite sure what she'll bring to the Super Bowl stage — aside from...

This weekend is going to be a massive one for the worlds of music, television and sports. The Super Bowl is finally here, and the fact that the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers will be squaring off against one another to determine who is this year's NFL champion is only about the fifth-most important thing happening over the next few days. In addition to the game, there will be the headline-grabbing advertisements (including a number of movie trailer premieres and appearances by both Justin Bieber and Eminem), the new episode of "Glee" that will follow the big game (which features the much-talked-about "Thriller" sequence), the national anthem care of Christina Aguilera (which bodes well for the Steelers) and the fact that this could be the most-watched American television broadcast in history (besting last year's Super Bowl, which drew 106.5 million viewers).

Paramount's reported decision to buy ad spots during Super Bowl Xliv for "The Last Airbender" and "Shutter Island" instead of reserving a slot for a new "Iron Man 2" trailer might go down as the biggest Big Game disappointment for comic book fans since "Blade II" got a better trailer than "Spider-Man" during Super Bowl Xxxvi in 2002. However, such letdowns shouldn't detract from the growing legacy of comic book-related ads that have enriched the proud history of Super Bowl commercials.
Here are five of the most memorable Super Bowl commercials starring comics-born characters, presented with the hope that they'll set the bar for either a killer "Thor" trailer in 2011 — or at the very least, a Deadpool ad for Visa.

It's Super Bowl time, and while some of us watch the game intently, all of us wait in high anticipation for the commercials, and unless you really wanted to throw away $10 for the annual pay-per-view Lingerie Football event, chances are your glued to your TV waiting for the official mid-game performance. The past decade or so has represented what could be considered the Golden Age of Half Time Shows, which is in stark contrast to the generic marching bands and "Up With People" performances from the event's early years. The Who will headline Sunday night, but will they be able to crack the top five performances in Super Bowl half time history?

What could liven up one of the worst Super Bowls ever played? Shania kicked off half time in 2003 with "Man I Feel Like a Woman.
