Got Your 6 today announced five new projects have received its 6 Certified designation, a program that recognizes film, television, theatrical, or digital content that accurately portrays veterans as leaders and civic assets.
The projects range from Fox’s new drama, “The Gifted,” Amazon’s “Last Flag Flying,” and National Geographic’s historical drama, “The Long Road Home,” about the 1st Cavalry Division in Sadr City, Baghdad on “Black Sunday.”
The national veteran empowerment organization Got Your 6 launched the 6 Certified initiative in early 2015 as part of its mission to change the veteran “broken/hero” stereotype held by 80 percent of U.S. civilians. The program challenges entertainment industry executives and content creators to craft more thoughtful narratives around veterans and military families.

What do you do when something you love goes off the deep end?
If that something is person, you support him to the best of your ability and try to get him the help he needs. A person who goes off the deep end is suffering, and you, as a human, should do your best to make that person better.
What about when that something is fiction? Is it okay to enjoy watching?
I ask this because this season of American Horror Story: Hotel is completely nutso. Whatever narrative drive there might be is completely sabotaged by the sex and blood and beauty.
It’s really fun.
Ahs is one of a new kind of television show, like Fargo and True Detective, which tell a complete story each season but then start over from scratch, with a new cast, new characters, and a new premise. Unlike those other two shows,...

The Oscars are less than 96 hours away, so you only have a limited amount of time to brag about your insane knowledge of Academy Awards history. Ready for a brutal 21-question foray into Oscar's grisly past? Let's roll. (We give you the questions on the first page. Jot down your responses, then check the answers, along with the accompanying questions, on the next page. The videos embedded here aren't related to the questions. They're just fun!) 1. What ‘90s Best Actor winner gave the shortest onscreen performance ever nominated (and therefore awarded) in that category? This is measured by total minutes and seconds spent onscreen. 2. The first (and so far only) black female nominee in the Best Original Screenplay category was a co-writer of what biopic released in the 1970s? 3. From 1937 to 1945, the Academy guaranteed nominations in one particular category to any studio that submitted a qualifiable entry. What was the category?...

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has a reputation for catering to its A-list nominees but this year’s Golden Globes have been dominated by first-time nominees and new shows.

Jeff Jensen: Melissa, for all the self-serving yet correct talk about how expansive and diverse and ambitious television has become over the past few years, the Emmys made TV seem rather small last night.
Maybe I lost my sense of humor over the summer (too much Rectify and Ferguson, I guess), but Seth Meyers didn’t work for me. The Late Night comedian—at his best when seated behind a desk, gleefully reading his sharp, tart jokes and engaging guests with smart chat—kept the show flowing and didn’t fumble. He was an effective game manager, but nothing more.

The FX network has been making great strides the past few years at the Emmy Awards, and now the cable channel has won its first program trophy. The Best TV Miniseries award was presented to "Fargo" on Monday's ceremony. In addition, "Fargo" won the directors' laurels. "Louie" won Best Comedy Writing. Surprisingly, FX also snagged two unxpected victories in the acting slots: Best Movie/Mini Actress (Jessica Lange) and supporting (Kathy Bates) for "American Horror Story: Coven." Factoring in the network's three victories at last week's Creative Arts ceremony, FX claimed a total of eight Emmy wins this year out of 45 nominations (a record -- that's the most in the history of all ad-supported cable networks). -Break- Follow Gold Derby on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, iTunes and YouTube FX has done very well with acting Emmys in the past decade but has not h...'...

“All you need for a movie is a girl and a gun.” Jean-Luc Godard - Just how did packing a gun and dishing out feminist tirades become marketable?
Reading academic books on the subject leaves more questions than answers. Dubbing the genre “Chick with a Gun” might seem condescending, except many of these films themselves have a lot of problematic politics contained within. Are we really supposed to cheer on these former housewives-turned-outlaws? Of course, the femme fatale has long been a staple of Hollywood. But there appears to a genuinely new breed roaming the countryside.
Just to cite some instances of a woman or women being awesomely violent includes
Blue Steel, Fargo, The Long Kiss Goodnight, Out of Sight, and The Silence of the Lambs. The foundational text, however, remains Thelma and Louise. Some complain a proper update of Thelma and Louise hasn’t been done or even attempted...

The Coen brothers are revisiting an old classic for a new small-screen project. The writer/directors have made a deal with FX to develop a TV series loosely based on their Oscar-winning 1996 film "Fargo," with Noah Hawley ("Bones," "The Unusuals") on board to write and executive-produce. The "No Country for Old Men" filmmakers will also serve as executive-producers on the hour-long drama, which is a co-production of FX and MGM Television. The news was broken by Deadline. MGM first attempted a "Fargo" TV series back in 1997 with Edie Falco in the lead role, though that project was done without the...
