This documentary has an original and even "provocateur" point of view about work... especially for the American society in which people are often kind of "workhoolics".
Indeed, it show the examples of several French people who, after a more or less long period of their lives spent working (from the basic manual work to the management of a company) were suddenly forced out of this work (some were fired, some had accidents) but instead of being depressed (as unemployed people are supposed to be in our society where money is what make people happy), they realized that the lives they were living up to now didn't made them happy, and that, surprisingly, their new lives of unemployed person was making them much more happy especially since they, at last, had time to spend on things they really liked (their family, reading, traveling, studying, learning, having fun with friends, etc) and since they were able to take control of their own lives (no more boss to stress them, no need to wake up early, control of your own destiny, of your time, etc). So those people openly explain why they've decided to stay unemployed and to live only with the little money the government give them, having found something more valuable in their opinion : the spiritual tranquility of the deserter who has thrown away his weapons and who refuses to continue to fight the merciless economic war which prevail in our modern western societies and in which the survival of some is only ensured by the exploitation or suffering of others.
I'd say this documentary can probably be considered as the "avant-garde" of the "alter movement" (not sure how it's called in the USA... you know the people who think that another World is possible, one that would be less consumerist, more respectful of the planet, more people oriented instead of being profit oriented... and more peaceful).
