Funny comedy with touches of romanticism and plenty of entertainment , humor and sheer amusement .
ma-cortes16 November 2015
This title blends romantic elements with comedy , tongue-in-cheek and a fun love story between a geek and a very beautiful girl ; so, the tone of the film is light-hearted and amusing . Timid Victor Martínez (Santi Millan) is a movie theatre watcher , he is 36 years old and still lives with his mummy (Chus Lampreave, Almodovar usual) . Victor wants to live a marvelous love story , similarly to cinema and specially the love affair between James Stewart/Kim Novak from ¨Vertigo¨. By some unfortunate mistake his life will change when he accidentally participates at a TV contest , a famous Reality Show in ¨prime time¨ , along with a gorgeous aspiring actress called Estrella Cuevas (Paz Vega) . Both of whom win the contest , achieving a prize about 253,000 Euros and are sent off to a luxurious hotel located in La Manga Del Mar Menor . According to their television contract , they have to get wedded , married by a Catholic priest and not divorced for at least three years , otherwise the contract to be annulled and they have to give back their reward .

Hilarious as well as romantic comedy is loaded with nutty situations irony , slapdash , comedy with tongue-in-cheek , bad taste jokes , rapid flash thrilling choreography , funny situations and with a distinctly Spanish sense of humor . The film relies heavily on the silly love story between Paz Vega/Estrella , reluctant at first , and Santi Millan/Victor who finally falls in love for her and ulteriorly spending some time together at a luxury hotel at Oropesa del Mar . This is a slightly funny film with entertaining events , giggles , twists and a bunch of very comical roles . The film moves in fits and starts most of which would be desirable , with more traps the viewer resists any kind , and some moments of enjoyment and others quite a few embarrassing . This is a typical Spanish comedy from the 2000s with the usual ingredients such as enjoyable humor topped with a little bit of original elements here and there ; including criticism to reality shows and improbable incidents . The adventures of the protagonists care so repetitive and the most part results to be rich in absurdities and implausibilities . It turns out to be pleasantly fun that offers no intellectual stimulus whatsoever ; an exercise in pure amusement in which entertainment and fun are guaranteed . The screenplay manages a lot of laughs from the audience and romantic elements that you never loose your attention from the film . The main flaw I can find is that some of the story lines are too much ridiculous and some character arcs end up being implausible. Some situations are laugh out loud embarrassment and the story proceeds at a breakneck speed that never flags . Sympathetic performances from Santi Millan as a shy 36-year-old man working as an usher at a movie theater and who still lives with his mommy . And unforgettable Paz Vega who though has a strong Andalucian accent , she parades sexily at her best and more relaxed and enticing than ever . The hit of the show is undoubtedly for the fetching Paz who gives one of the best fun screen acting . I liked everyone in the excellent cast, and the male and female actors , especially Paz Vega , were all very attractive . Paz won the Goya for Best New coming Actress with her performance as Lucia in "Sex and Lucia" by Julio Medem in 2001 , she subsequently starred in ¨Only Mine" by Javier Balaguer, opposite Sergi López and was nominated for yet another Goya Award and later on , Paz appears in "Talk to Her" by Pedro Almodóvar . In 2003, she was Carmen in Vicente Aranda's film, based on the homonymous novel by Prosper Mérimée , opposite Leonardo Sbaraglia . That same year, she pairs up with Santi Millán in this romantic comedy , "Dí Que Sí/Say I Do," for Columbia Pictures in Spain . Both films went on to have very successful box office careers in 2004 . As a result of her collaboration with Columbia Pictures in "Dí Que Sí", James L. Brooks invited her to co-star in "Spanglish" opposite Adam Sandler . Since "Spanglish" Paz Vega working in Hollywood as well as Spain and has been directed by acclaimed filmmakers such as Frank Miller , Danis Tanovic, Oliver Parker , Michelle Placido and the Taviani brothers and shared billboard with notorious , international fellow actors . Paz also starred in the first film directed by Jada Pinkett Smith, produced by Will Smith : "The Human Contract" . Most recently, Paz repeated her collaboration with Spain's emblematic Director, Almodovar, in "I'm So Excited" . Furthermore , the support cast is frankly excellent , such as recently deceased Constantino Romero , Pepe Viyuela , Chus Lampreave , Ornella Muti , Daniel Grao , Luis Cuenca and , of course , Santiago Segura .

Colorful photography in juicy atmosphere by Gonzalo Berridi, deemed to be one of the best Spanish cameraman , he photographed successes such as ¨El Viaje De Carol¨, ¨Amantes Circulo Polar¨ , ¨Ardilla Roja¨ , ¨Camaron¨ and ¨8 Apellidos Vascos¨. Lively and commercial musical score by Federico Jusid , including some catching songs . The motion picture was professionally directed by Juan Calvo , though has some flaws and gaps . Juan has also worked on film and television as a camera, editor and director assistant . He also wrote the screenplay of this his first feature film Di Que Si (2004) which was selected for the European Pitch Point by the European Film Academy . But he is usually TV filmmaker , shooting episodes from ¨Homicidios¨, ¨MIR¨ , ¨Cuestion De Sexo¨ and ¨Los Misterios De Laura¨.

bad, but funny film
dcldan21 March 2006
Victor is a poor man that, aged 36, still lives with his mother. Estrella wants to be an actress but has any talent. Due to a chain of mistakes, the are made to play in the program "sí al amor" (yes to love!). They hate each other, but the incentive of a great prize convince them to survive living together during one week. Typical love comedy, with all the usual gags that can be seen on this kind of film, but directed with a little of taste and with some actors that have a decent chemistry. The film is bad, of course, but it is pleasant to see (specially if you don't have anything better to do) and cam make you laugh, which is what we demand to those films. It is compulsory to remark the great acting of the humorist Pepe Viyuela that parodies quite well Terminator in a "Spanish Torrentic way", The scenes with him are the best of this film, that, of course, won't go to the history of filming, but it a little funny and pleasant to see. Don't be very strict with it, and watch it with good eyes...

Paz Vega fans can even enjoy this turkey
arbuckledream8 February 2006
Nobody is expecting a masterpiece of a silly comedy and that's exactly what "Di Que Sí" aims to be. Nothing wrong with that. It's just dumb entertainment and it has to be taken as such. That doesn't mean, of course, that we should swallow everything without criticism. And there are quite a few regarding this movie. The idea of the plot opens some possibilities but I have to say that the makers didn't work them out properly, especially because they didn't seem to have thought out any kind of defined personality for some characters or any form of logic for the plot. It might sound like I would be expecting too much of a silly comedy but it's not so much to ask for a minimal portion of common sense if you are suppose to relate to any of the characters. They just seem to have relayed on the type of traditional dimwitted clichés that would be too old for an Ozores comedy. And, maybe worst of all, Spanish filmmakers seem to be looking too much to Hollywood instead of developing their much better qualities. Such a marvelous actress like Paz Vega made the best out of her part and achieved the most enjoyable moments of the movie, even though she was forced to act like she was from Mars. And poor Santi Millán, also a talented actor, had to cope with a typical nobody-can-be-that-stupid kind of stuff to a point that is really hard to endure. I mean, come on, I know more than one guy, including myself, that would agree to be shot, let alone get money, after having the chance to spend a couple of days with Paz Vega in a beach resort and there is no discernible reason for anybody to act otherwise, unless you are making a silly comedy. The plot twists in this movie are presided by idiocy and at a certain point you don't care anymore. The only one I wanted to survive was Paz Vega, but just to have the chance to see her again. In a better movie.

Di Que Lo No Se
Chrysanthepop17 August 2008
The main problem with 'Di Que Sí' is the confusing narration, the clueless director and the screenplay that lacks focus. There is no fluidity. It starts off as a light romantic comedy and in the second half it absurdly and drastically switches to action comedy (with little romance) and in the last minute it's back to romantic comedy. Moreover, Juan Calvo presents some very annoying characters like that terminator wannabe (played by Pepe Viyuela). The soundtrack is likable. What really works in favour of 'Di Que Sí' are the two quirky leads. Paz Vega glows as the beautiful, vibrant and funny Estrella while Santi Millán shines as the shy and goofy Victor in a comparatively quiet and subtle performance. Their scenes together are funny enough, especially the ones that display the clash of their personalities. They're the ones who make the movie somewhat worth the watch watch. Otherwise the movie's got the usual gags and only some of them compensate for the lack of quality.

Not worth it
exatrax30 April 2005
Terrible movie, absolutely awful! With a script that's just plain stupid and a clueless directing, the whole point of the film is silly. The characters are flaw, stereotyped and predictable; they act and evolve for no justified reason. Under these circumstances, even the good work put up by Paz Vega -great as usual in a character not so far from her usual roles- can't avoid the sinking of the ship. On the contrary, her partner Santi Millán becomes as clueless as the director; and it's even painful to watch a good slapstick comedian as Pepe Viyuela in such a stupid character. Mix all that in a story filled in with product placement and obnoxious commercials, and what do you get? 2/10, being generous. A comedy without even a good joke during all the movie? Definitely one NOT worth watching.

Say I do.

Warning: Spoilers
With a poll coming up on IMDbs Classic Film board for the best movies of 2004,I started looking round for Bollywood movies from the year.Looking round my local CEX for 2004 Bollywood DVDs,I spotted a fun looking Rom-Com.Getting back home,I was shocked to find out that the movie was not a Bollywood title, but a Spanish Comedy!,which led to me saying "I do" to a viewing…

The plot:

Bombing as an Am-Dram actress Estrella Cuevas , unaware bad actress Estrella Cuevas is delighted when a guy claiming to be a big shot film director offers Cuevas the chance for a photo-shoot.As Cuevas looks for the limelights, cinema usher Víctor Martínez is told by his mum that he should attempt to get a job at a TV station.

Ringing the station, Martínez mum is told that the only job available is a security guard role, which Martínez is pushed to accept.Unknown to Cuevas, the big-shot movie director is actually a crew member on a cheap-looking TV dating show.Keeping the negatives for himself, (yuck!)the crew member passes the photos along to the TV producer, saying that she is someone who will do anything to get on TV. Preparing to film the latest episode,a sudden car crash leads to the show being one couple short, which leads to the producer deciding to create a new "couple" by randomly matching the top 2 people on the studios waiting list: Estrella Cuevas & Víctor Martínez.

View on the film:

Opening with a prime cut cartoon opening credits scene,writer/director Juan Calvo gives the movie an enchantingly breezy atmosphere, with Calvo basking the title in bright colours, and using speedy tracking shots to superbly show the excitement that Cuevas and Martínez are caught up in.Despite the poster looking sickly sweet,Calvo largely stays away from melodrama or raunchy antics,to instead build a Comedy with a natural warmth which is underpinned by a mad-cap chaser edge, thanks to Calvo matching Cuevas & Martínez clumsy romance with the TV station rushing to grab a shot of the couples latest mishap.

Joined by a strong supporting cast, which includes a still-pretty Ornella Muti as pushy TV director Francesca, Santi Millán and the elegant Paz Vega each give brilliant performances as Cuevas & Martínez.Jumping across the screen,Vega gives a Cuevas a real lively kick,as Vega keeps Cuevas bouncing with a charismatic charm,as she goes from being threatened in a fake robbery,to finding herself falling in love for Martínez.Keeping his feet firmly on the ground, Santi Millán gives a great dry performance as Martínez, with Millán showing Martínez to be terrified of stepping out of his comfort zone, which leads to Martínez eyes almost exploding, when Cuevas pushes him to say I do.

Say no, please!
jotix1005 December 2012
Warning: Spoilers
For lack of better things to do, and not having a clue as to what this film was about, we decided to take a look as it was shown on a cable network not long ago. This inane Spanish comedy has to be one of the worst things that came out of that country in recent memory. One suspects, as with other films from Spain, this was a project that was subsidized by the culture ministry, because as a commercial vehicle, it had no reason for having been produced. Laughter, which is the whole purpose of making a comedy is sorely lacking here.

Starting with the screenplay, by its writer-director, Juan Calvo, this was a comedy destined for domestic consumption. The talented cast is totally misused. Paz Vega, an actress that can deliver, is totally wasted in a role that will not add anything to her C.V. Same can be said about Ornella Muti, an Italian film star, relegated to a supporting role. Chus Lampreave has been seen in a few films of Pedro Almodovar, but has nothing to do here.

Watch it at your own risk!

worthwhile to watch

May be many couldn't like it. But I enjoyed every bit of this movie. Many times people don't like a movie because they feel that the ideas or the theme which is in the movie are outdated but what they don't see how the movie is represented. So did happened to this movie and that's why it has low rating. I agree it is not a categorical classical comedy type movie but neither it is a complete failure. The characters make you laugh. The situations make you feel something out of it, though not all the time and may be sometime unreal but come on it's simply a movie. Both of the lead actors have done decent acting, full grades to them. Santi Millan has done quite well as an innocent concursante and Paz Vega is not tremendous as in "Lucia y el Sexo" but I will give her 6 out of 10. She is not so hot in this movie but you can find a bit of innocence nd wit and loving too. Dialogues r funny nd thumbs up for the Spanish terminator, made the movie complete watchable. Altogether it's a watchable and lovable movie. Sorry for the my review if not pleasant, writing for the first time in IMDb.

Great Fun!!
monica-tovar20 January 2007
I haven't laughed so hard in years. This movie, directed by Juan Calvo, is a fast-paced comedy- upbeat, lively and light. It is pure enjoyment, reminiscent of Hollywood's 50's comedies, like Bringing up Baby and Holiday.

The quirky characters are a joy to watch and listen to. Their speeding dialog is music in itself- silly and clever. The timing of the physical comedy is flawless. Paz Vega is vibrant as a bubbly aspiring actress; Santi Millan quietly matches her intensity as you root for them... This is a "guy-meets-girl-in-a bizarre-situation-caused-by-mix-ups-and-all- hell-breaks-loose" type of movie...It feels like a breath of fresh air to watch a movie simply for stress-free enjoyment. It is perfect for laughing, sharing and relaxing.

Perfect romantic comedy
Scandiguy8 April 2022
Brilliantly acted and very funny comedy. Yes some complications may not make too much sense but the likeable characters makes it work anyways. Definitely worth a watch if you are in for an entertaining evening.

That simple comedy that surprises me with simplicity and joy, makes our heart warm, despite all the cliché, all the exaggeration, of these silly romantic comedies, but captivating and adorable...
