Pretty Sick (But Unintelligible) Stuff...
EVOL66616 October 2005
Warning: Spoilers
GIRL HELL is a strange entry in the newer wave of Japanese super-extreme gore films. This is another one that has no English subtitles or dub, so I couldn't follow the story at all. There was some pretty weird stuff going on that didn't make much sense together, but I'm hoping that's because I didn't know what the hell anyone was saying. Anyway, I'll try to explain some of what I saw:

There are 2 guys in the beginning talking about something for a long while. A girl with a bandage on her wrist then goes to see some bag-lady lady who lives in a field and who lactates trying to "feed" her plastic baby-doll. Then we cut to a scene of some fat chick getting boned by an old guy. Bandage-wrist and the fat girl meet up and talk for a while, and then Bandage-wrist goes home, where she hears people boning in the other room. An old naked guy (not the same old guy from before - father perhaps?) comes out of the bedroom and says some stuff that I guess is mean to the girl. She then proceeds to bite herself on her bandaged arm until she starts to bleed. Old guy leaves and the girl goes to see who is in the other room. Turns out to be some chick who's all beat up and covered in gauze bandages. Bandage-wrist tries to clean the gauze-lady up some. Bandage wrist then goes back to hang out with Bag-lady. For some reason the girl sucks the bag-ladies titty til milk pours out. Bandage-wrist goes home and the old guy is banging Gauze-woman again. Bandage-wrist gets p!ssed and threatens him with a knife, but he doesn't seem to care too much, and she doesn't stab him. The 2 guys from the beginning go and beat the sh!t out of Bag-lady with a baseball bat and rape her. Some guy in a limo comes up to Bandage-wrist and they go for a ride together. While they take a ride, the 2 guys go to Bandage-wrist's house and hit Old-guy in the head with the bat. The 2 guys then proceed to humiliate and rape Gauze-woman in some pretty nasty DP action until she bleeds all over the place. Bandage-wrist goes home to find Old-guy and Gauze-lady dead. She passes out and ends up tied and gagged in limo guys car. Limo-guy pulls out some sort of catheter thing, sticks it in Bandage-wrist and starts drinking her p!ss. Bandage-wrist is dropped off, and the 2 guys find her and act like they are going to rape her. One of the 2 guys stabs the other guy with a screwdriver for no apparent reason, and Bandage-wrist gets up and walks away. Bandage wrist goes to see her friend Bag-lady, but since Bag-lady has recently been beaten and raped, she's not really in the mood for company. Bandage-wrist get's mad and knocks Bag-lady's head off with the baseball bat (which doesn't really make any sense because the 2 guys had the bat with them at Bandage-wrist's house - unless bag lady has her own bat laying around...). THE END...

I have never put this long of a synopsis in a review before, and the only reason I did this time is that this film made absolutely no sense to me so I don't know how to accurately describe it other than to explain exactly what happened in the film. It had some pretty entertaining gore and what-not, but I had no idea how any of these people were inter-related. If anyone has seen this and has any clue, please PM me, I would love to know what this film was about. Anyway, some very rough stuff in this one and it WILL NOT appeal to the general audience. I give it a 6 for now because it was kind of interesting, would possibly rate it higher (or lower, depending...) if I could have understood the story-line. Worth a look for the "extreme" film-fan 6/10

Worst movie I've ever seen
topmoviesandshow2 March 2024
People treat this movie as some profound masterpiece but that's far from my interpretation. This is a movie that has a few ideas put into it that are there to be weird and unusual. Low budget, how does one make something interesting? Put a weird girl and a doll into it. I feel as though that was the direction the movie was going for with everything it did, it doesn't have anything interesting to say and the dialogue and acting is laughable. This can be treated as a comedy, and I'd rather it be treated that than some "underground masterpiece". Weird to be weird, movie to be movie, nothing more.

Hell on earth - or somewhere else?
sevdah5 October 2007
Warning: Spoilers
First of all, it's not very easy ( and it might not make much sense ) to review a Japanese movie with no subtitles available anywhere if you don't speak Japanese. I watched " Red room 1" , apparently only Yamanouchi's flick with translation ( Thanks to Unearthed Films )and found out that it's not just pure senseless exploitation and sickness. From my personal point of view, director and screenwriter is an intelligent person with fairly bizarre imagination ,but, unfortunately, this is obscured by the fact that there is no other author's movie translated to English ( I hope this will change eventually ). " Girl Hell " , therefore, might seem chaotic, unintelligible and pointless, but my feelings are that this is not the case. I'll try to explain this right away:

The movie has a plot that is coherent and events presented in this shocking, disgusting piece of nihilistic nightmare are obviously connected and represent pieces of a very tragic story - to say the least. The main character - girl with the bicycle - is actually a sister of the horribly victimized woman bandaged , tied with duct tape and repeatedly raped by her father. I know this because the main character talks to her using the word that means " sister" ( I learned that watching Japanese films with subs). So, there's a very violent incest on top of all other horrendous things. It seems that the main girl is somewhat spared from this abuse, so it might result in her feelings of guilt over her sister being a " sacrificial lamb" , and herself being at least partially spared because of that ( or maybe some other reason too). The victimized sister bears a horrible wound on her stomach that looks like a result of a failed suicide attempt ( seppuku ). Although the luckier sister is able to call the police and end this nightmare, she chooses not to, which is actually not a rarity in cases of a severe domestic abuse. Maybe she is somehow blackmailed by her sadistic father.

Now, let's say something about two young rapists. One of them, the dominant one, is somehow acquainted with the situation in the sadist's family. He himself is also a sadist. When he talks to his buddy we see a flashback that reveals the images of a brutalized girl in bandages- it's like he knows her. And what I find very interesting about it, is that during that part , the guy also uses the word " sister". Maybe he is their brother who escaped from that hellish household. There is no doubt about the fact that he is very much alike that disgusting sicko prone to incest and torture; he proves that on more that one occasion. He knows where the house is, and when confronted with the father on the front door of the house, we can observe that father doesn't look surprised when he sees him. He kills the father. The subsequent abuse of the poor girl in bandages by two young maniacs is just a logical continuation of her previous torment.

And what about that surreal, huge, red moon over that horrid house? My guess is that it might be a hint to something that places the plot in the context that suits the movie title: maybe it all happens in some sort of hell, another dimension made for punishment and suffering. But maybe I'm wrong.

I don't know what to say about homeless woman, except that her death by the hand of the main character also looks surreal ( I mean, you can't decapitate someone with the baseball bat just like that, but on the other hand, Yamanouchi's " Kyoko vs Yuki" is richer with even more ridiculous acts of violence).

Sickness breeds sickness, depravity creates depravity, violence causes violence. These are some of the messages in this movie. I liked it in a weird sort of way and hope someday someone will invest some effort in translating this strange flick so I can finally know what it's all about. 7 out of 10.

Another Daisuke Yamanouchi's sickie.
HumanoidOfFlesh14 July 2008
"Girl Hell 1999" aka "Injured Murder Rape Film" is another nasty film from Daisuke Yamanouchi's oeuvre.I own this sickie in Japanese,so the plot is not fully understandable for me,but here we go:a girl enjoys riding her bike and she meets her homeless mother in a field who is breastfeeding a doll(actual milk comes out). One day she comes back home and she sees her father raping her older sister who is bandaged almost head to toe.A rich pervert is stalking her and she encounters two teenagers on a murder and rape rampage.Japanese exploitation director Daisuke Yamanouchi specializes in making obscure and very nasty pinku eiga oriented films filled with sadistic rape and sexual abuse."Girl Hell 1999" has a feeling of "Red Room" movies and "Mu Zan E" as it offers plenty of nihilism. An interesting curio for fans of ero gro.All others should avoid it.7 out of 10.

Girl Hell.....yeah, that title makes sense, but the movie is a different story.
ElijahCSkuggs18 December 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Girl Hell 1999, weird name for a flick huh? Well, it's a weird movie. And the obscure factor rises when you don't know a damn thing what they're saying. That is the biggest issue you'll most likely have with Girl Hell, that is if you're a fan of this type of film. If you're not, haha, it's kinda "pahvoice".

The story like I said is kinda confusing. It revolves around a young school girl who is living in a pretty hellish reality. Her Dad sexually abuses her injured and heavily bandaged Mom...or older sister, which Im not entirely sure which. Her Dad also seems to threaten her quite a bit, causing the gentle daughter to have a nasty inflicted suicide wound on her wrist, that she bites into when things get a little rough. There's a side story where the young girl seems to have befriended some homeless girl who lives near the shore. I have no clue what their relationship is, maybe they just met? Maybe she's the girl's sister, that possibly has suffered from gigantic psychological issues. It's really a guessing game there. Then there is a side story where two young hooligans seem to be reminiscing about past events, and that you realize that one of them was responsible for the injuries of the girls' Mom/Sister. There are a few other situations happening where the young girl's life is fully solidified as being a nightmare, from a perverted businessman to a fat friend who seems to be living life happily but at the same time, not being a true friend in the slightest bit. Characters meet and obviously bizarre and violent events take place.

Girl Hell was pretty entertaining. It had some very dark humor, some very sleazy sex, and some bloody violence. There is one scene where the fat friend is having sex with her sugar daddy....who may be the king when it comes down to being a sleaze bag when having sex. He's screaming and sweating....that was a real funny scene. There was also a pretty sexy scene where lesbian nipple sucking is on screen. The movie has the goods, but like I said previously, you can't understand much, which really sucks. Daisuke is a good story teller from what I can gather, because Red Room was a well-written movie, and I'm sure this would be the case as well. So yeah, if you're into Daisuke flick and extreme/Asian cinema, there's no reason not to check out Girl Hell. 7 outta 10

Japanese Masterpiece
DarkSpotOn3 March 2022
If you are a fan of Martyrs, you will most likely adore this flick. The film is trying to show in multiple ways the ominous reality that is hidden under the bed. We have the main girl and her a bit, chubby classmate. She is always sad over ridiculous reasons, how for example pretty males do not like her, while the main character is silent about her actual seriously disturbing life, of her abusive father, disabled sister, that is constant basics being sexually assaulted by the father, and her mother that left them. We just feel horrible for the main character, and her sister that are literally going through hell. All male characters are monsters, and all-female characters are exploited by adult men. The film is very interesting and very depressing. The first time when i watched it, i teared up in the end, when our hero kills the homeless woman, when her "baby - toy", got broken and thrown by the two villainous men, and the heroic girl did not know what occurred.

This film when watching it for the first time, just like the Red Rooms, is a very disturbing, well-made movie. People that rated this film 1 star clearly rated it because of it's shock value, and not following the message this film is trying to indicate.

one of the famous Japanese entries in the splatter genre
trashgang17 September 2012
Girl Hell isn't that known by the lovers of Japanese horror but it do is a classic by the Japanese splatter gore lovers. Up to this writing it never had a proper release outside Japan so it is only available in Japanese language and even then it's hard to find. Still, some are disappointed by this flick because the nudity scene's are blurred, a typical Japanese phenomena.

But for the lovers of ultra extreme flicks Girl Hell is available on DVD-R together with another ultra rare flick, Women's Flesh: My Red Guts. The difference between the two is that Girl Hell is a real flick with actors and WFMRG looks like a snuff flick. There's only one girl in it, unknown.

Girl Hell was for me not that extreme as being said. It's more a kind of exploitation flick were we follow one girl having a bad day. For some it might be a strange flick because we do see milk coming out of a breast while feeding a doll! Further on we do see a wife being raped by her husband but not on a normal way, she's strapped like a mummy. It do becomes weirder and weirder but gore is left out. The red stuff do flows but most of the ugly parts are done off-screen. naturally being only available in Japanese language it may be hard to watch for some but you will get the picture while watching it. I thought it would be ultra gory but be honest, it never really becomes that it only has a few rare situations.

Gore 2/5 Nudity 1/5 Effects 2/5 Story 3/5 Nudity 0/5

But it's the second flick on the famous disc that do delivers the extremities. sadly it's of bad quality but people who can catch it will be glad to have a copy of this notorious flick. What we do see here is just one girl going berserk on her own body. Being influenced by an experimental drug she first finds out that penetrating her body do has his satisfaction. The only thing she uses herefor is some kind of metal spoon look-a like. She enters it in her mouth soon to be placed in her vagina until blood runs out. Once she's bleeding the drug do what it got to do and she starts to enjoy by cutting her body with a fork to be replaced later by a knife. She discovers that pain do gives thrills. the pain do becomes excessive until mutilation of the body becomes extreme.

Clearly not for everybody and comes into the regions of the almost lost an extreme rare to find Chinoumi by which none is known, not the actors or the director, another bizarre entry in Japanese underground splatter flicks. But it even can become more extreme with another hard to get example, the flicks by the Daikichi's Genki-Genki production house.

Japan, a strange country with the most extreme flicks.

Mean spirited nastyness
ronnievanrijswijk29 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Girl Hell is absolutely one of those movies that might leave you disturbed and depressed, it tells the story of a girl who's life is a living hell. She lives with her scumbag of a father who rapes her sister which is severely disfigured because of an accident, and spends the whole movie covered in bandages. She occasionally tries to be a good samaritan by giving food to an homeless woman who breastfeeds a doll, and then we have two teenage boys who spend their time talking about raping girls. Out of boredom they attack two women and rape them, the second rape will finally lead to a tragedy which causes this nightmare to explode. Long story short the leading actresses life only becomes worse and worse by the minute, some people might think it's a splatter movie which it isn't. It's... just pure hateful misogynistic nastyness.

I read that a couple of people here on imdb had some problems understanding what the movie was actualy about, it's not that hard to find english subtitles online. Some people think that the homeless woman was the lead girls mother, i assure you she's not. The woman covered in bandages is the lead girls sister, which has some hateful feelings towards her own sister for not being targeted by their rapist father. Just try to look for the right subs.

A subpar film by normal standards but where it truest shines in is the comedy
vrushangpatel-5904122 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
And unorthodox tale about a girl with unrealistically fake forms of hell to the point they become comical. The highlight of the story however is the subplot with the 2 labour workers who unintentionally create the most hilarious duo I've ever seen. With a codependent relationship the two create some whacky adventures that lead right back to where they began creating the environment of an episodic sitcom. The highlight of the movie in my opinion was when the leader of the duo decides to vent his frustrations on the the homeless woman and as he steps foot on the woman's bare chest, her breast milk is sprayed into the man's mouth.

A Living Hell

Misaki has reached her breaking point, coping with her father using her bed ridden & horribly disfigured sister as a sex toy and also by being terrorized by two different secret admirers. Yamanouchi delivers a bleak & mean spirited gem.

Unintelligible??
dixieburlesque26 December 2012
Why would you even watch a film in another language without subtitles or dubbing? No wonder all these reviewers are claiming it's difficult to follow - well of course it is! Why not get a subtitled copy? I found it easy enough to find and I wasn't even trying.

I thought this was good but I think it could've been awesome if they completely rewrote the ending, perhaps delved a little deeper into the home situation and didn't blur the sex scenes but to be fair, enough happened in the movie's time frame to keep me interested and entertained for the full hour and 5.

If you like Asian cinema, give this a try, it's definitely worth a watch.
