Bed room.
horizon200812 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Japanese horror is a curious thing, either it's a tale of some begrudged ghost (pardon the pun), an ultra-gore spray fest, or something where women get tied up with ropes and tortured (although these are generally a bit daft and not very shocking from what I've seen).

I had high hopes for The Red Room. I always try to avoid reading too many reviews of "controversial" movies as I want the full on experience for myself, free from someone else's (possibly jaded) input. Sadly though, The Red Room wasn't really very controversial at all.

Filmed on an obvious shoestring budget The Red Room is a big brother type tale of 4 contestants trying to win 10million Yen by surviving allotted trials suggested by the winner of a card game. Three cards have the numbers 1,2,3 and a fourth has a king symbol. The person who draws the king gets to tell two others what task they must undertake. This starts pretty mild and progresses to the slightly more extreme.

The first trial involves 5mins of two girls French kissing (although we later find out one has a penis and is hoping for a complete sex change via the winnings) and It's actually a bit icky, not so much due to the visuals, but the sloppy sound effects they've added to the scene. Actually almost all the trials are the same with yucky sound effects, they're kinda funny (especially later on) but I suppose they are effective in ramping up the horror.

The second trial is a girl on a spinning office chair (who pukes at the end), followed by a hairdryer in the mouth scene, and another scene with a man who must assault his wife via punches, and a concluding rape. It's all done in typical Japanese style with the ripping off of a blouse and some breast abuse which I've seen before in Japanese "torture" flicks.

By the time the film nears its end, we've been treated to a rape with a screwdriver, and a broken lightbulb in a vagina (out of shot but complete with squishy noises) concluding with some necrophilia by the girl/boy sex change wannabe of someone who was stabbed with the same screwdriver she had elsewhere earlier. Pleasure and pain eh? All of this sounds really shocking but it really wasn't all that, and I'm hoping to watch Red Room 2 in the next few days in the hope it's better. There's far too much of a sexual element in Red Room when I expected more gore in the games. Maybe that's just me though.

Interesting, but weird
TheInsanity55628 February 2009
Warning: Spoilers
This movie somewhat reminds me of the saw movies, only in the way that people died in this movie trying to get something precious; in red room the thing is money in saw it is freedom or a cure, please forgive me as i have only seen saw 2.

This movie did somewhat shock me, but not to the extent that I thought that it world. The only 3 shocking parts for me are, in order.

1. One of the girls was a guy. (forgive me as i have forgotten his/ her name)

2. Yoshiro bit off a mans testicle

3. The wife and the screwdriver bit.

This move in its entirety is not as shocking as I thought it would be.

Interesting premise, but nothing too grand
As_Cold_As_Ice1 May 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I am a relative minor in relations to extreme Japanese cinema viewing. While I am not daft enough to call this "the most disgusting and shocking Jap film ever", Red Room was rather enjoyable for me.

First thing I have to say is that this would have been a far less disgusting/shocking film if it weren't for the fantastically repulsive sound. The squelches of "insertion", the sloppy kissing sounds, and the pseudo-porn music were truly graphic, and vulgar to the extreme.

Although this is a pretty rough film in parts, with enough pissing, cutting, inserting and the like, some parts were funny, like the only guy continually saying "I'm sorry" (those two words are about 75 % of his lines), and a hilarious secret about one of the characters, which I won't ruin for you here.

Other than that, there isn't much to talk about. There's a bit of nudity (the 27 year old chick is hot), the set is nice, and the whole premise of a "last person remaining gets the money" hasn't been over done in horror (yet).

All in all, I found this an enjoyable way to spend an hour.

A Nasty little thing...
GurnBlenston30 April 2004
Red Room has the production values and ambience of a snuff film. Admittedly this may be due to the un-subbed umpteenth generation bootleg i saw it on. The plot however is easy to comprehend, a bunch of strangers sit in a queasy looking industrial type space and draw cards. The loser then has to endure something horrible. Thats it for plot. In reality Red Room is a series of grotesque torture sequences, punctuated with (what i guess are) scenes of exposition and card drawing. The most memorable torture 'bit' being a lady taped to a swivel office chair and spun round and round FOR AGES. At first its funny, then its sickening before going back to being funny again. Also we have the old 'stick a hair dryer in someones mouth and let em have it' bit, as well as rape, watersports and sundry other delights.

As you may guess 'Red Room' is a freak show of a film, something to show a jaded friend who thinks he's seen it all.

Oh those wacky Japanese!

Forgettable, amateurish splatter- and rape-fest
fertilecelluloid23 December 2004
Daisuke Yamanouchi's RED ROOM 1 has the miserable production values of a Max Hardcore porno but no hardcore.

Yes, it's bloody and features a parade of "shocking" acts, but it's el cheapo grand guignol and is too over-the-top to be effective.

Women get raped, guts are ripped from bellies and there's an air of misogyny, but don't think for one minute that any of it is worth a damn. It's not.

This effort has been compared to some of the "Guinea Pig" films. The comparison is valid in some respects. The "Guinea Pig" films were first, though, and were unique at the time of their release.

Director Yamanouchi has his mind in the right gutter and his screen direction isn't too bad, but nothing on show here compares to the 80's work of Japanese directors Koyu Ohara and Yasaharu Hasebe, filmmakers who this director has clearly been influenced by, even if not directly.

Ultimately, RED ROOM and its redundant sequel are boring.

What sort of people would actually enjoy this?
alan22617 January 2010
Just like the topic says.

I got a loan of this film and as I am heavily into Asian movies & world cinema I thought I would give it a go.

Basically somebody attempted an EXTREMELY low budget version of Hostel or Saw, filmed it in their garage on a rubbish camcorder, and that's it! Oh I forgot to mention that unlike the Saw movies (which aren't exactly my bag), this film has no weird twists, funny moments or real plot to mention of. It is out primarily for shock tactics, which I suppose in that respect it does achieve it's goal.

IMO - Sicko's only!

didn't work for me
trashgang14 September 2010
Over here in Europe Japanese or eastern gore flicks are hard to get. Mostly we have to order them from the US or straight from Tokyo. So for us it's sometimes a bit of gossip to try to catch a much acclaimed flick. This here, Red Room is one of them. I've got it straight from Unearthed so that means full uncut but what a disappointment that was. The storyline is very simple but didn't work, four people being locked up in a red room have to play the King Game. The one with the King card has to say what the others have to do. Of course things start of easily but slowly they are trying to get revenge onto each other. That fact starts with a hair dryer put into a mouth for 3 minutes while blowing hot air until hitting each other just to the fact that they have to make love to each other. It never is explicit, I mean, you see a light bulb going into a vagina and of course it breaks but you never see it going in. Does it? No, put with the reputation of eastern flicks you guess they would show it. And the most annoying part is the sound the added. If a girls underparts would make that sound or when see gives head and it makes that noise surely it would be a turn off. There isn't that much blood in it, no gore, but a lot of boobies. The cover of the DVD is rougher than the movie. Just to say, on the DVD there are trailers for other flicks, one of them you lust try to catch. I guess you never will but I have it, that's the real stuff, I'm talking about Mu Zan E.

More Gory Sleaze From Japanese "Extreme" Director - Daisuke Yamanouchi
EVOL66627 January 2006
Warning: Spoilers
The RED ROOM is another in a growing list of "extreme" gore films from sicko director, Daisuke Yamanouchi. His films are usually entertaining just to see what kind of nastiness that he'll portray in his film next - but in my opinion has yet to surpass his surprisingly straight-forward and straight-faced filth-fest, MUZAN E, which in my opinion is one of the most repulsive, yet addictively interesting films I've ever seen...RED ROOM is "fun", in it's own twisted way, but is pretty typical of Yamanouchi's other films...

My copy is in Japanese with no subs/dubs - so all I got out of it was that 4 people (a guy, 2 girls, and a hermaphrodite/tranny - not sure which she/he is...) play cards - whoever draws the "crown" card wins, and that player gets to choose 2 other players to go into a cage and perform some sort of perverse or torturous act. They start off relatively tame, but the ante gets upped pretty quick. There are some dialog scenes that I wish I could have understood to get the whole picture - I guess I'll wait to see if Unearthed ever actually puts these out...

This type of thing is DEFINITELY not for everyone. Although I typically find these types of films humorous - others may just think it's demented. And even though there appears to run a vein of dark-humor through the film, there are still graphic depictions of rape, violence, lightbulbs breaking off in vaginas, penis biting, and some good ol' golden-shower urine drinking that some may find somewhat offensive...If you like the newer wave of Asian gore and "extreme" films, or have seen some of Yamanouchi's stuff before and dig it, give it a look. RED ROOM is better than Yamanouchi's KYOKO VS. YUKI, and is pretty much on par with his films SISTERS OF BLOOD and GIRL HELL (though not quite as strange as that one...) and RED ROOM 2 is even "harder", if not necessarily better than part 1. MUZAN E is definitely still my favorite of his films and highly recommended - but RED ROOM is still worth a look if you can get your hands on it...7/10

Very much a waste of time and should be missed
DJShaft6931 December 2008
Warning: Spoilers
This movie sucks so much #$%% it could have been a septic tank cleaning truck. Actually it sucks so much crap it could fill in for a sewage treatment plant.

It is one of the most ridiculous and stupid wastes of film I have seen in recent times. I felt like someone had tortured me for the relatively short length that I was exposed to this garbage.

I love most of the Asian movies and have a huge collection of stuff that most people consider crap, so I think I can judge this film with a good eye for what makes up the Japanese extreme movie scene.

I am a true horror freak and love extreme and nasty movies, but this one just made me want to punch the guy who made it in the gonads. Someone should have bitten his schlong off instead of the actor in the scene where that act of nasty and sickening crotch desecration takes place.

That was about the only time where I thought that this thing had a bit of gore that I could get into, albeit while I was grimacing and covering my own crotch in horror.

Th only other part of the movie that had any real good shock value was the scene where the "chick" pees in the other ones mouth and she swallows it.

I won't spoil it for those who insist on watching this dreck, it is actually the only part of this stupid film that made it almost worth the time just to see that scene.

The c@#K biting scene was the only other time I thought it was almost worth the effort to put up with the rest of the film.

Save you time for a good movie, there are a lot of very good and decent movies in the genre that composes the Asian horror/gore/torture films.

This one should have been left on the cutting room floor.

Now This is Reality TV!
Shaza12323 May 2013
Warning: Spoilers
You know those reality TV shows where people do just about anything for money? Yeah, I hate them too, but let me tell you, you haven't seen anything until you've seen Red Room!

Here's the plot, we have four contestants in this nice little red room as they play a little game. They each take turns to pick a card from a deck. Who ever picks the card with the crown on it, is the King. And the King gets to order two of the other contestants to do whatever he or she wants. The objective is to get the contestants to quit and refuse to perform whatever action the King commanded, which leads them to being disqualified. Last player standing, gets the 10 million yen. Things start off fairly innocent, like two girls kissing, but it gets progressively more and more depraved and disturbed. But don't worry, none of the contestants are likable, you won't mind watching them do horrible things to one another. And of course, they are all desperate for the money too, you'll be surprised to see just how far they go...

So who are the contestants? We have a married couple, both bankrupt and needing the money, and both also incredibly cruel to one another. We also have two girls, one a nasty 17 year old girl who doesn't need the money, but definitely wants it. And the other is in her 20's who is pretty desperate for that money. You'll be on the edge of your seat to see the last player standing, I can promise that.

Here's what's good about this movie. It is mindlessly entertaining. You won't need to think much in this one. It's just a stupid movie, that's stupid fun. Lots of perversion and creative uses of certain household objects for torture. Moments that are genuinely chilling (including some very hard to watch and disturbing scenes), and moments that are laugh out loud hilarious. Speaking of laughing, this movie is pretty damn funny in parts. Major WTF ending to boot!

Here's what's bad. The sound effects.... oh god the sound effects!!!! I don't know how they managed to make two girls kissing sound like a vacuum cleaner sucking up water, but they did. They were kinda funny, but they were just so wrong!

This is a short one, only goes for 68 mins, in that time, it establishes itself as a sleazy, stupid bit of mindless fun. Recommended for those who like sleazy and exploitative cinema. There's also a sequel apparently, which I haven't had the pleasure of viewing yet, but I hear it's just as crazy as the first.

Thankyou for reading.

Akai misshitsu (heya): Kindan no ôsama geemu
RaulFerreiraZem9 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I was already expecting it to be kind of silly, still though i was surprised at how silly it would get. I am very thankful that the runtime is just over an hour because i'm not sure whether i would manage to get through it if it were to be 90 or so minutes long. The soundtrack is bad. Really bad. Probably the worst i've ever heard. It makes everything seem sitcom-ish(?) also the sound effects are really not good at all and you can see they were trying really hard to make the effects sound gruesome and gross but i think they overdid it and now it just sounds annoying. I think that the best thing the film has going for it is probably the scenario (which is saying something since it is really generic) but it never really uses it in a good way. The game's rules seem way to lenient. For example that scene where the long haired girl kills the old man. She deliberately disobeyed an order from the king. Wouldn't that be enought to get her disqualified? And if not why wouldn't they just disobey any order that they did not like? Doesn't make sense but okay. The biggest problem though is that the film is just a huge bore. It is like 68 minutes long and still i've had to skip through multiple times because the film insists on reusing scenes that happened 5 or 10 minutes ago. And scenes that were never good to begin with.

A revelation once you get subtitles!!
stsinger22 January 2007
For those of you who have only seen an unsubtitled version, Daisuke Yamanouchi's "Red Room" is an entirely different film once you understand what is being said. The film changes completely from what appears to be a series of disconnected, vile, sadistic acts, to a deep, well thought out psychological horror film that packs a wallop.

It's still very strong stuff, but takes on new meaning with subtitles. Very highly recommended for fans of strong horror films, after seeing "Red Room" in its original form I am now seriously looking forward to more of Yamanouchi's work getting an official US release. Once again, Unearthed Films deserves huge credit!

This Better Be Sick Enough for You
TheExpatriate7003 October 2009
Red Room is an interesting blend of psychological thriller and torture themed horror, revolving around a semi-underground game show. Through the use of character development, and some rather interesting plot twists, it rises above the typical "torture porn" entry to achieve a genuine sense of dread and tension.

If you thought Hostel was a sick, depraved movie, then you had better steer clear of this film. It makes anything available in mainstream cinema seem incredibly tame, particularly in its use of graphic sexual violence. Indeed, if it weren't for the good characterization, it would be basically a really sadistic soft core porn film.

One thing to remember is to make certain to obtain a version with subtitles, or watch it with someone who speaks Japanese. Without the translation, the film will seem plot less and simply grotesque.

A well aimed blow to the viewer's senses
DVD_Connoisseur22 April 2007
"Red Room" is a low-budget, shot-on-video movie that is a "Guinea Pig" for the late-nineties. Despite a slow start, the film soon enters familiar territory as we see four players of the ultimate reality game show carry out acts of depravity, physical humiliation, violence and rape on one another in an attempt to win 10 million Japanese Yen (around $85,000).

While most of the unpleasantness will be nothing new to regular viewers of J-Horror, it's the plot of this straight-to-video production that makes the difference. A psychological exercise as well as a graphic one, "Red Room" actually manages to deliver a well-aimed punch to the viewer's senses.

Some people will hate this film due to its slow pace and lack of gore. The film has a slow-burn delivery of its content and it rewards the patient viewer.

Somehow, this politically incorrect film manages to titillate and appall at the same time. It's not to all tastes but is a tentative recommendation to fans of the "Guinea Pig" films and transgressive horror in general.

Curiously, while the unsavoury delights unfold on the screen, an up-beat, porn soundtrack is used. On top of this, the audio during scenes of intimacy is superbly vile, with over-the-top slurping noises used to great effect.

On the strength of this little film, I'll be checking out further Daisuke Yamanouchi movies in the future.

Red Room (1999)

*** (out of 4)

Extremely brutal and sometimes revolting Japanese horror film, which has gained a huge cult following over the years due to countless bootlegs but it finally got an official release here this week. The film is a cruel look at reality game shows and what limits people will go to in order to win the prize. In the case here the prize is ten-million yen and the object of the game is to be the last person standing. Four people play and all four draw cards. The one who draws the King must pick two others to torture each other. The game is over when three people quit or are dead. The "torture" starts out easy with two women kissing but as the film goes on each round gets more and more violent. There are two death scenes that will go down in horror history as some of the toughest to watch. I'm usually against these Japanese horror films that go for all torture but this one here actually has a pretty interesting story mixed in with the violence and there's actually several interesting plot twists. The film is hard to watch at times but the 68-minute running time goes by quickly. Original title: Akai misshitsu (heya): Kindan no ôsama geemu.

Japanese Horror At Its Finest
DarkSpotOn8 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This is your shock exploitation material right here. You don't need much of a plot, for a shocking film, if the shock is good, it can count as shocking good material. When making a shocking film, you aim for good shock, and for a decent story, and for the viewers to care about the characters!

This film is I believe a low-budget flick, but still pretty well made for what it was aiming for. You have a brother and a sister, competing against a married man and his woman, all four having the aim of getting the yen prize.

In the whole film, you feel for the couple man and the woman, which need the cash for their kids and to survive from attackers (i believe), and then you have the other side which are the youngsters, which have their own needs.

This film reminded me of the classic film The Hills Have Eyes, you have two sides, and you are seeing who will be the bigger savage, just like the Hills Have Eyes, obviously Hills being a horror film, and this is exploitation horror so, yeah.

I really feel bad for the sister which in the end gets murdered by the wife, but hey, the youngest at least got the prize, and hopefully, it's used in a good way.

Also you never NEVER get bored when watching! You just keep listening and watching what is going on and how this game affects their brains, you see normal people, transform into animals for money! And I kinda think that people would be the same in 2021 if someone made a show like this!

It's scary how there is most likely a lot of people i am sure would do stuff like this for big amounts of cash, so yeah. 7/10.

Extreme sadism from Japan.
HumanoidOfFlesh12 November 2004
"Red Room" series is clearly inspired by the reality TV craze.Four people are locked in a large 'red room' with a jail cell like structure in one corner. They play a card game(consisting of four cards only)where it appears the winner of each game gets to choose which two players enter the cage and what they do with/to each other in the time allowed..."Red Room" has the production values of a porn film and indeed it looks to have been produced(or at least distributed)by some Adult Video company. The film is filled with scenes of extreme sadism, humiliation, gore, sexual violence and cruelty for example one guy is made to screw one of the ladies with a lightbulb and gets a little mad, shoving it too far inside her and shattering it.She passes out from the excruciating pain whilst pissing a river of blood across the floor...So if you are seeking an alternative to the "Guinea Pig" series give "Red Room" a look. The sequel is even nastier and sicker,so be prepared.

Good, but had the potential for being a great movie.
Musicianmagic17 January 2024
This is one of those movies that the reputation (gore) is not representative of the actual movie. Yes there is blood & guts though it's tame by horror movie standards. Don't be put off thinking it's an extreme horror.

Four people are locked in a red room to compete for (10 million Japanese Yen) $100,000. (Most movie descriptions say a $million but the characters say 10 million yen which in 1999 converts to about $100,000) They each draw cards with the person drawing the king gets to say what one person will do to another. The object being to get someone to quit. Each draw & action hopefully will reduce to the final survivor that wins the money. Of course, the action demanded starts rather tame and is never real outrageous but how it's performed is what goes much further.

Along the way we learn a bit about each character which are an interesting mix. More importantly we learn why they are willing to do whatever it takes for the money.

The cast was good. For Yuuki Tsukamoto who was very good you might notice this as her only movie. She has made a number of movies but those were adult videos. That does not mean this movie is more explicit though.

There are several sex scenes although none were particularly erotic yet they were important to the story.

This had the potential for being a great movie. First problem was one character was unbelievably stupid, way over the top. The other problem was some of the characters at times seemed to forget they were playing for $100,000. Really? Last, some of the sound effects added were horrendous. Especially when French kissing it made those scenes intolerable.

Still, it's one of those movies that you are kept on your toes watching for what happens next. Even some scenes that you think you know, you are surprised by what happens. It's not a long movie but it went by quick. I'm looking forward to watching Red Room 2. I say, check it out.

The King Game....?
ElijahCSkuggs10 December 2007
They had Kings in Japan? Shouldn't it be called The Emperor Game? Whatever.

The King Game. Four people enter a room. Each gets a card. One card has a Crown displayed on it. The other three cards are numbered 1 - 3. Whoever gets the Crown card is obviously the King of this round. The King then chooses up to 2 numbers to play his/her game. The King doesn't know which number belongs to which person, which makes the game even more interesting. The goal then is to make the participants quit the game. You can quit at anytime, but you will leave empty handed and you certainly won't get the grand prize of 10 Million Yen. You accomplish the "challenge", you get to play another round. So whoever is the last person standing, The King, will win the money. And most importantly with this game, anything goes.

Red Room is my second movie with this director. The first was Muzan-E, which is considered by many to be one of the most disturbing flicks out there. And I'd agree. This film isn't really on par with Muzan on the disturbing level, but on a sick entertainment level, it's much better. It starts off almost timidly with the "contestants" not really sure how extreme they should go, but eventually the movie hits a great stride and the vomit, urine and blood begin to flow. I also have to add it has a great opening scene, which is very reminiscent to KIDS' opening scene. My only "major" gripe with the film was that a couple scenes of "challenge" would kind of drag a little bit. The chair scene in particular. Though at least that scene ended with a nice laugh.

Red Room is easily one of the most entertaining flicks of this nature I've seen in a while. I really dug the whole game idea. The movie made me laugh a good amount, it had nudity, sleaze, blood, and perverse situations. I can't see this movie disappointing too many fans of this type of film. Sure didn't disappoint me. I'm pretty pscyhed that there's a Red Room 2. 8.5 outta 10

Err...
noonward12 October 2009
Red Room is a delightful take on reality shows, rendering them to the most sickest degree. This movie is low budgeted and you can tell, considering the whole movie seems to stay in one or two rooms. That's not why I only rated it a 5 though, my problem with this movie is that even though it only runs for an hour, it is still too long. The scene after scene of sick stunts get dull after the first 40 minutes and it is more down to how there isn't much depth and too much "look how disgusted we can make you" moments.

However Red Room doesn't TRY to have depth, it's only sole purpose is to disgust and shock the viewer and it achieves this triumphantly. This is a bleak movie and you're more than likely to feel sympathetic towards the main male character and his puppy love. The other characters however are SO dislikable that you don't really mind if they get violently hurt throughout the movie. And maybe that's where the faults for Red Room lie; the unsympathetic tendencies you get from most of the main characters makes this dull and just a shock fest. I did like the colour arrangements for the movie as everything is tinted a dark, hovering red enhancing the saddo grasp of the film.

It's just really what you want out of a movie, if you are fine with just taking in the constant sickening stunts then you'll enjoy this.

Satisfyingly sick.
BA_Harrison11 July 2014
Have you ever played that game where you see just what your friends/work colleagues would be willing to do—hypothetically speaking of course—in exchange for an obscene wadge of cash? Well, Japanese sickie Red Room also explores this idea, only in this film, the challenges are for real, as four cash-strapped individuals compete for a prize of 10 million yen in 'The Forbidden King Game': each player selects a card; whoever gets the 'king' card gets to devise an act to be performed by two of his opponents; last contestant to drop out/refuse to perform an act is the winner.

The basic concept for Red Room is deeply flawed: with no boundaries set before the contest begins, one would expect the first 'king' to invent a challenge so obscene that no-one would possibly consider taking part, no matter how big the prize; that would take care of two contestants immediately. The competition would be over in no time, but where would the fun be in that?

Instead, director Daisuke Yamanouchi has his characters come up with games that gradually increase in severity, starting with a relatively tame dare in which two of the girls must kiss each other, followed by a test involving a vomit inducing spin on a revolving office chair for a few minutes, and a hair dryer stuffed in the mouth. Eventually, however, the challenges get much nastier, Yamanouchi really getting into the swing of things, delivering all manner of deviant behaviour that involves lots of sickening squelchiness and extreme blood-loss, and which ultimately ends in murder.

A classic of torture-porn before the explosion of torture-porn; a red-room before the meme of red-rooms, also a one-will-survive game

Red Room invites people to participate in a game to win money : the "King's game". It is not excluded that this film could have influenced quite a few elements of popular culture of the 21st century. I don't want to draw any conclusions, especially since it was very underground when it came out (it still is, to a certain extent), but the similarities are sometimes surprising. If you look you might see what I mean. I think at least that it was able to contribute to the myth of the Red Rooms, as certain films contributed to that of the Snuff movies.

It's a film that I really like, without being my favorite of Daisuke Yamanouchi. I'm actually a big fan of this director, he's one of my favorite Japanese directors and even one of my favorite directors in general.

What do I like about Red Room?

First, the story: it has many twists and turns, the dialogues are very well done: the film is a psychological thriller in addition to being a splatter and torture-porn. Without being ultra-gory or extremely graphic, or even ultra-violent (one of the least brutal films of Daisuke Yamanouchi in my opinion) it still contains cruel, perverse scenes, which explore the pain of the characters in a captivating way. And there are some original things that I don't want to reveal!

I would say that another quality of the film is its accessibility: there is nothing experimental, we are in a more traditional work, with participants who compete to survive, around a card game.

I wanted everyone to survive, but as you can imagine, there were deaths. The ending was successful in my opinion.

There are quite a few other things to say, but my memories stop there and the essential is said.

If you want to discover some extreme Japanese cinema, give it a chance!
