PARIS -- EMI Music France and French animation group Moonscoop-Taffy Entertainment have signed an agreement giving EMI exclusive distribution rights to music from all current and future series in Moonscoop's catalog, the companies said Wednesday.
EMI Label One, a leader in European musical formats based on animated series, and Moonscoop-Taffy plan to combine their resources for the marketing of a wide range of musical products including albums, clips, compilations, karaoke and mobile formats for such current series as Code Lyoko, Alien Bazar, Funky Cops, Titeuf, The Fantastic Four and Doctor Dog.
"I'm very happy to have signed this unique agreement with Moonscoop-Taffy Entertainment. The large range of products in this catalog demands the use of a variety of musical distribution and marketing tools which is by definition EMI Label One's field of expertise," EMI Label One director Fred Juarez said.
"We have very strong products in Europe, as in the U.S., and we will work closely with EMI Label One in order to make a complete success out of this partnership based on the existing catalog and on our future productions, such as 'Casper' for example," Moonscoop-Taffy co-president Benoit di Sabatino said.

PARIS -- French animation studio Antefilms said Monday that it has sold Code Lyoko to Cartoon Network U.S., marking the second cartoon series the company has sold to an American channel and the first under its new sales label Moonscoop Distribution. Code Lyoko is set to air beginning April 19 as one of the highlights of Cartoon Network's new action-adventure block, Miguzi. The series, aimed at 6- to 10-year-olds, uses a mix of 2-D and 3-D animation and is about a secret world next door to a school where the show's protagonists become superheroes. Lyoko aired on pubcaster France 3 last fall and pulled in an 18%-20% market share. Antefilms had previously sold its series Funky Cops to the Fox Box-branded block, and is currently producing a second season of the show about two incompetent cops who become disco stars by night.
PARIS -- Wanadoo, the Internet subsidiary of French telecommunications giant France Telecom, on Monday announced the sale of its France Animation unit to France-based Antefilms Production, the producers of the successful animated Funky Cops on Fox's Saturday morning Fox Box kids block. The transaction, sealed for an undisclosed amount, will create a new independent production powerhouse boasting one of Europe's largest catalogs of animation titles, including Funky Cops and Titeuf. The company will continue to use both established brand names, retaining their respective production operations, the companies said. However, a joint marketing team will be created and distribution pooled to leverage the value of a catalog of more than 1,600 half-hour programs.
