Uh, yeah right.

The trouble with El Matador is the film itself. I found this film at a dollar store, and it was a dollar wasted. This movie has it all! Bad film stock, lousy production values, and an indifferent cast and crew. The older cast mates. (Mom, Paul Rodriguez, and the restaurant manager) turn in above average performances. The rest of the cast? Groan! And a worthless script full of some of the most unfunny one-liners and set pieces ever seen this side of a Jim Carrey movie. (I don't like Carrey, so I guess that can be considered an insult). A IMDb member says she was laughing until her sides hurt? Oh brother. Apparently, this movie swept the awards at a film festival? Must have been the only entry or, the producer, Joey Medina is playing a joke on the renter or buyers of this film

No bull here

The acting is simply horrible. And the video transition effects from scene to scene appear as if they were made using Windows 3.1. The funny parts are lame and insulting to comedy. The movie starts with a scene in which the son reminisces about his past but it has nothing to do with the story until he corrects his recounting of history and retells his past, this time making sense with the plot. The 'tough' guys are much too meek and more sad than humorous. And the gay gangster leader is just too gay to be believable as the oppressive master of a neighborhood. Also, movie must have been made with a VHS camcorder and a microphone from the Dollar Store. It is simply a struggle to watch and full of bull....

Cheesy and funny and fun!

My husband and I both loved this movie, we have watched it several times and it is hilarious! We laughed out loud throughout the movie, it's perfect for watching on a Friday night while drinking beer! The characters are all over-the-top and funny, and the plot is surprising and fun. It reminds me a little of the "Scary Movie"-type shows, full of shout-outs to other movies and gross-out humor.

You just have to remember that (like many, many other movies right now) this movie is probably geared toward the a younger and male demographic. Once you realize that and just go with it, it is a fun movie to watch. I am pleased that we found it and we will keep watching it and enjoying it!

El Matador will make you laugh until you ache!

This is one of the funniest movies I've seen in a while. It's clever and original. The primary character, Juan comes from a line of Matadors dating back 1000 years and he takes on the challenge to fulfill his destiny. His family move to East L.A. after his father, a great Matador, has a mishap in the bullfighting ring. A prize family possession is stolen and Juan goes on a quest to get it back. Joey Medina can do it all -- write, direct, act and produce. The cast works well and the "dream sequences" are hilarious. I'm not easily impressed but this film impressed me. You'll need to watch it more than once because you'll still be laughing when the next funny part starts and you won't want to miss any of it.
