Seven degrees of Jason Momoa
cmusselm-112 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Emma (Virginia Madson) and Kala (Jason Momoa) share an attraction. While on Kauai to bury the ashes of the woman who raised her (Lily), he teaches her to slow down - the islander way. She begins to see an alternative to her unfulfilling married life back in Boston. Enter her husband and kids who just fly in from Boston because, um, why? her husband can't handle the kids on his own? Kala asks her to stay with him. She decides to go back to Boston with her family. The way the movie was made, it sure wasn't convincing. Along the way, she meets her birth mother and Lily's sister, and her daughter learns how to dance hula. I would like to see the sequel to this movie. Emma finally does leave her husband, her kids are off at college, and there's nothing keeping her from going back to Kala. But it's been 15 years. What changes has he gone through in the intervening years? The seven degrees? Madson played the Princess Irulan in the 1984 Dune movie. Jason is playing Duncan Idaho in a new Dune movie, which is due out in 2020.

Hated The Ending!
bronzesrv11 January 2020
This movie kept my attention, There are a lot of Jason Momoa fans out there, I'm not one of them and I'm not familiar with this work, but I can see why the ladies love him so much. I am a fan of Virginia Madsen and her brother Michael, it is nice to see her in a semi romantic part, she had the worst husband and children on the planet! Ungrateful, useless and whiny. No way I would have stayed with the husband she had, he couldn't even let her enjoy her time in Hawaii without him flying himself and the kids out there! And before that calling her to handle mess he should have been dealing with as a father. Leave her be, give her her time and let her come home in peace , not take that garbage there. I would have definitely chosen the handsome guy on the island to stay with. Her husband only confessed his love for her when she admitted she almost, almost fell for someone else who made her feel loved and alive. She deserved better! She was a lot more loyal to her family then they were to her. I would have never left a man behind on that island that loved me as much as kalai loved her.!

I have seen better, but Jason Mamoa kept my attention(his son was kinda cute too)
Tlane12156 April 2005
I did not think it was awful, it was not one of the better Lifetime movies, I agree with that. Just looking at Jason Mamoa made it all worthwhile(He is better looking than: Matthew Mcanahay(I know it is spelled wrong),Brad Pitt, Val Kilmer and Keanu Reeves put together. He is SOOOOOOOOOO SEXY.Let me also add Patrick Swayze and SLy to that list, I also enjoyed seeing the chic that was the main character in CANDYMAN play a romantic part. Are there any other movies that he is in worth watching? Please let me know he is an angel to look at.I know he was the bomb in Baywatch.I wanted to see some sex scenes.Dang...Maybe next time ladies!

This movie is quite good for spending an evening with it. Actually I caught it on Hallmark channel, so it means it' supposed to be made for the whole family. So the main lack of the movie is the ending, completely unreal. Probably it was dictated by that obvious rule - tell the moral at the end and praise the family values. What we got? Woman, that is every day tortured by the daughter, who complains that mom doesn't understand her, husband, that drawn in the routine of life and turned his family life into deadly boring thing. And when she met gorgeous guy who fall in love with her, what does she do after? Yeah according to these stupid family movies' rules - return to her family - back to her home hell. I mean she had chance to escape everything that burdened her in life before she came to Hawaii. This decision seems to me unreal. The end of "Tempted" is like banishing from Paradise. The heroine doesn't look like she's making the step to new or at least refreshed life. She's bravely returning to her family, but it does look like if she's making a DEED - not a joy or happiness. The views of Hawaii - beautiful nature and Jason Momoa will be a bonus:))while watching.

It was so bad!
phyllislovell28 April 2003
I hated this movie! Don't know why I even finished watching it. Oh, yeah, I remember...Jason Momoa was nice to look at.

It moved slowly. Stupid story. Bad acting. Way too sappy. I didn't feel any compassion or connection to any of the characters except maybe Kala (Jason Momoa). A dumb too-easy ending.

I had a big prob with the age discrepancy. Momoa & Madsen are actually 24 & 40. However, Momoa's character Kala has a 15 yo son who lives with his ex-wife! I think that would be biologically impossible. Ok, he actually looks older than 24 and his character behaved more maturely than Emma (Madsen). The character he played must have been much older than the actor really is, but IMHO not much older than 30. That would mean he had his son at 15. Ok, that's biologically possible, but married, too, at that age?

This movie was suppose to be about a married woman being tempted by a younger man. Jason Momoa is very sexy and sensual. Who wouldn't be tempted? So where were the hot, steamy love scenes??? There was some kissing, but I never felt any heat between them. Besides Jason Momoa, the only other thing good about this movie was the beautiful Hawaiian location.

I rate it 2 out of 10.

One of those useless films...
cristina-trsl25 August 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Despite the beautiful setting, despite gorgeous Jason Momoa being in it, this film was basically a total waste of resources and the world could have done just fine without it.

Virginia Madsen did a horrible job with her role, it seemed like she was sleepwalking through the whole film, delivering lines as if she was reading them for the first time, no expression on her face, no feelings, no nothing.

The scene where she argues with her daughter has the most ridiculous dialogue, with Emma delivering lines you would expect from a child, not a mother. And her acting was also like she was playing a spoiled brat.

You would expect Emma to have a more passionate reaction to a man looking like Kala, but he didn't seem to do much for her. And why a guy like that would have been interested in her, I can't say. Assuming he's a deep, mature guy, who's not going for looks, it still doesn't make sense, as her character seems very shallow and childish.

Finally, why they would call "Tempted" a film that focuses so little on the temptation/affair part (not even one hot or sexy scene) is beyond me. If that was the main plot, I couldn't tell. Emma finding her real mother and the efforts to save the Hawaiian family's lands seemed just as important, and all three were treated shallowly. It's a shame that the actors who possessed some talent were given such a bad script and such bland lines, but I think the main problem was with the lead actress.

Overall, a very bad film.

Tempted but fizzles
guilfisher-110 March 2007
There are several beautiful things about this movie. The beautiful scenery of Hawaii or Maui, whatever, and the looks of Jason Mamoa. Both worth watching. Mamoa is fetching in his scenes without his shirt, running along the beach. Quite a fantasy. Or in the deep blue waters of the cave. However not too much else happens in this older married woman and younger lover theme. Virginia Madsen, that Sharon Stone wannabe, is just awful, in this. No chemistry, not even sexual for the young man. In fact their love scenes fell flat. Too controlled. Lainie Kazan doesn't sing a note in this. Too bad. She's a super singer lady and plays a grandmother on the island. For a Jewish mama she seemed to play the role all right. But, I'd rather hear Lainie sing a torch song. However, there is the beauty and distinguished Vietnamese actress Kieu Chinh in the film. She brings simplicity and class to this picture. So 3 stars for Hawaii, Kieu and Mamoa.

Adventures in Paradise
sol-kay25 March 2012
Warning: Spoilers
(Some Spoilers) It's when the workaholic mom and paralegal Emma Burke, Virgina Medsen, got the sad news that her former nanny and surrogate mother Lily, Itsiao ling Tang, had passed away from ovarian cancer her life made a sudden U-turn. Receiving Lily's ashes with the instructions to have them scattered in her native island of Kauai Emma dropped everything, her job her family and her weekly workouts at the local gym, and took the first flight out of Boston's Logan Airport on a 12,000 mile trip to the island to fulfill Lily's wishes.

Arriving at Kauai Emma meets local beach bum scuba diver and flower farmer the tall handsome and strapping Kala, Jason Momoa, who just happens to be Lily's sister Kehau's, Kieu Chinh, nephew to show her around the island and meet the family. It's through both Kala, whom Emma falls in love with, and Kehau that Emma gets to meet the Brooklynese sounding native born Julia, Lanie Kazan, who does all the legal and paper work for them. It soon becomes apparent that the very unsociable Jula has a story to tell Emma but she's isn't quite opening up to her. It's Kehau who breaks the ice by giving Emma the lowdown to who exactly Julia is and what she means to her! Which blows the shocked down to her socks Emma's mind! There's also the fact that the farmland that Kehau owns where she both grows and sells her flowers is about to be bought up by a group of greedy land developers! It's now up to Emma to find a loopholed in the local law that would prevent them from buying up the land and turning it into a housing development: Which would be someone being buried on the land which would have it declared by the local courts as secret ground that can't be tampered with in that it would disturb the dead! This problem would have been easily solved if Lily instead of having herself cremated after death would have opted to have herself buried there instead!

Meanwile back in Boston things are getting out of hand in the Burke family household with Poppa Mike, Andrew McFarland, having his hands full with his free spirited 15 year old daughter Jamie, Brook Harmon, hanging out all day and night with her boyfriend and not doing her homework. As for Jamie's kid brother Neil Burke, played by James Dean?, he's confused in what he wants to be when he grows up, a doctor a lawyer an Indian chief, and needs Emma's guidance to set him straight on course before he ends up living in fantasy land forever!

***SPOILERS**** It's in the end that Emma finds the real reason for Lily having her travel to Kauai and to scatter her ashes there. It was something that Lily wanted to tell Emma all her life but didn't quite have the nerve to do it. It was also to unite Emma with her true and biological mother whom she was told was dead all these years. And thus make up for all the time she missed out in not being with her! During a tropical downpour with Emma Neil Jamie and the what looks like the barley 25 year old Kala's 15 year old son Billy(Michael Wilder), who ended up slipping off a boulder and cracking his skull, hiding in a cave to escape from the rain it's discovered that somebody back before recorded history, an Hawaiian cave man?,is buried there! Thus saving Kala & Keau's flower farm in that it made the land, according to ancient Kauai laws and customs, exempted from being tampered with: Like building a housing development on it!

P.S Touching final scene with Rev.Stewart played by Garry Day, who's a dead ringer for the late great professional wrestler Captain Lou Albano, giving the eulogy for Lily, who in death brought everyone in the film together, as her ashes were scattered into the sea to the music of the Hawaiian version of "Somewhere over the Rainbow".

this is one nice move
mariabell363 February 2009
The film may have been a little sentimental, but not too much, and it includes Over the Rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole which sets the tone for the whole film. And seeing Jason Mamoa without his dreadlocks was worthy and dreamy (I love my Hawaiian men). I really did enjoy this Hallmark film, and the scenery made it worthwhile. Can you imagine, for the main character to find out that her mother was Hawaiian, and the land could be theirs. But this particular plot of the land feud was not resolve in the film by the time it was the ceremony for Lily. But ending it by her going back to her old life in Boston, is as real as you get, but what else could she do, split her family up to spend her romantic days with her Hawaiian hunk? and i suppose, Hawaii is a paradise, for a moment, and that's all. it would be nice if we all packed off to Hawaii to live with our Hawaiian hunks, if that were so, Hawaii would be the awful tourist trap of middle aged women you would see in some of the Spanish resorts today. Then, end of paradise.

Malama Aumakua
lavatch28 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
In Hawaiian, "Malama Aumakua" means "keep our family close." The film's title of "Tempted" is deceptive in that the true theme of the film is family values.

We follow the story of Emma Burke, a happily married woman with two beautiful children and a devoted husband. She works in Boston as a paralegal. But Emma's life has become mired in the rat race where she recognizes that precious ties to her family in the past have slipped away.

The death of Emma's beloved nanny named Lily Noi is the occasion for Emma to return Lily's ashes to her native Hawaii. It is there that Emma will be "tempted" by the charms of a big hulk named Kala, the son of Lily's sister, Kehau.

While Emma gets a glimpse of paradise on the beautiful island of Kauai, she also begins to open the Pandora's box of her family secrets when she learns that a neighbor named Julia is her birth mother.

In this this area that the film falls flat on its face in the slow pace and the failure to reveal details about how Emma's lout of a father ostracized Julia from the family and placed Emma under the care of Lily. The story of the father and Julia was never fully explained, and the audience kept waiting and waiting for something to happen. It was not enough for the screenwriters to simply say that the father was "a cold man" and leave it at that.

The strength of the film was the beautiful photography and the cultural details of the rite of the Ho' o Ponopono, which seeks to make things right by way of forgiveness. But the pacing of the film made this slow burner difficult to complete.

The most lively moments are those spent between Emma and Kala, where is there is some good chemistry. But it was not a good idea for Emma to inform her devoted husband about her feelings for Kala: "For a moment, he made me feel alive and free." Yes, Emma was tempted, but was it really necessary for her to drive a stake through the heart of her long-suffering husband

Jason Momoa was perfect!!!!!!!
venusmoon33317 September 2008
Jason Momoa is an ABSOLUTE GOD!!!!! His presence dominated the entire movie...I kept staring at him throughout the entire show...I didn't know they made men like him!!! (YUMMY!) I thought the movie was beautifully played, excellent location. I thought Emma was a bit too old for him though, and the fact that Jason looked too young to have a fifteen year old son! that threw me a bit. I didn't feel the chemistry between them...but HELLO!!! if I had to leave a home where I felt unappreciated to go to a tropical paradise and met Jason..I would be on him in seconds!! he is just so absolutely perfect. Even though Emma's role was uncertain at times just having Jason's presence in the movie made everything worth watching again...and again...and again...

Actually, this is a sweet little movie. Nice theme, some kindness, emotion, reflection. Virginia Madsen has always been a way too underrated actress, in my opinion, and she did a good job in this film. Scenery is great. The pace of the story is calming and peaceful. Jason M early'ish career role and seemed a suitable character for him well before he turned to a different style years later. The older lady, can't recall her name at present, but always plays a supporting character role, is very good in this one. Anyway, a goodhearted, emotional flick, if you are in the mood for a random feel good story. Took the winter (where I live) blues away.

Jason Momoa stole the show
michaelad19 January 2018
His character's age was a bit off to have a 15 year old, but overall, because of his stature and deep voice the audience can be easily fooled. Otherwise, I loved it, although kind of half expected more between them,, so I guess I really loved it for the mystery factor, not knowing what if anything would happen between them, perhaps if her family had not arrived on the island......who knows. This was one of the first times watching Jason Momoa, and cannot for the life of me figure out why he hasn't already become a block buster "leading man" as he has such presence and and fantastic personality. Alright Jason, you are getting there and you were good in Justice League and I cannot wait for Aquaman to come out. Still thing you should be a leading man. See ya at the boxoffice.

Typical Life time movie
sweetmandalee11 April 2003
Ok, so I saw Tempted about 2-3 weeks ago. My critique, the title expains it all. Emma (Madsen) is a workaholic mommy, who "doesn't connect" with her husband anymore, has to deal with her typically bad-attitude-child, and no time to deal with it, and worrying about her einstien youngin cuz, nothing else is wrong with him but, gosh darnit, he doesnt have any friends! Well, just when just when you couldn't feel any sorrier for poor-working hard-typical AMerican-dont know how do deal with my life and all the insignifixant crap that surrounds me- mommy, guess what?? Her guardian that raised her as a child DIES! And as she is just beginning to feel like crap for not taking time out of her day to call her every now and then, she gets a letter, in saying her "dying wish" is for her to take her ashes back to Hawaii to have an ancient burial. UGH,BUT HOW WILL THIS FIT INTO MY SCHEDUAL?!? Ok, so she leaves the lil monsters and there ridiculosly unqualified father back in Boston as she takes off Hawaii, where she meets Kala, her guardian's sisters, much younger son, and she becomes "Tempted" by him. And he is pretty smittin by her too. Anywayz, as that romance barely begins to bud before it blossoms, back home in Boston ol' Daddio comes home to ms teen thing making out on the couch with sum Hoodlum!!! Her excuse, "Daddy, you aren't supposed to be home this early!!" Yeah, I know. So, papa flips, and flies the kids and himself to Hawaii where he can hide behind Emmas skirt from the children. Meanwhile, BACK to Hawaii while all the drama is happening in Boston, Emma is informed that their land is going to be taken over or something, they never really go into it, it really takes a back seat to the whole "I am tempted by you" thing, that takes the wheel, but don't worry, it all comes together in the end :) But as she goes to get the legal papers from a bitchy neighbor who is fighting for the case, she is shockigly surprised that, her mother in fact isn't dead, but living on that very island!!! - now guess who it is? Oh the drama! Oh yeah and Kala "the one who is tempting every one" (Jason Momoa) has a son too.. yup.. 15.. same age as lil hell raiser from Boston. Hmm.. intresting huh?? And in all actuallity, Momoa would have been like 7 when he had the kid, no kidding. Now, just as the a storm is coming in, lil hell raiser figures out the whole thing about her mommys mommy and yells and screams and throws a tantrum and just when you want to throw the t.v. out the window to get rid of her God-awful screeching, Momma stands up and screams back and runs off as her offspring calls for her to come back, Momma is running and the storm rolls in...And if Im not mistaken which I may be"pathetic papa" and "Pretty boy" clash, all the while, the storm rolls in, representing a coming dramatic climax to the movie. (I totally get symbolism)Ok so, as pretty boys kid comes in and starts telling "Einstein" about all these bones in this cave or whatever, he just HAS to see them, so the three kiddos take off somewhere where the other two (Einstien and Lil hell raiser) have no clue where they are. As pretty boys youngin' climbs the cave to get candles I believe it was to light the cave becasue the storm has started, he falls about 3ft. and somehow manages to -what- knock himself out. So, Lil hell raiser and Einstein are left alone, she goes for help and he stays behind, what happens next. You'll have to watch and see. :-) Alright, so in final remarks, in my opinion, over-acted, way to dramatic ;especially Brooke Harman a.k.a. "lil hell raiser" but don't fret my dear, there is plenty of room for you on "The Young and the Restless", you'd fit in great. Jason Momoa's steamy hot looks are the only thing attracting middle aged house wifes to this flick. If you had the chance to watch that or stare at your hands, then I'd watch it, in all actuallity, it really wasnt that bad. Just a bit over acted. Although I must admit, I'd only watch it again for one thing. Jason Momoa. Seriously, pretty, pretty man

My thoughts on tempted.
mizmekia30 December 2005
I've seen the movie and I absolutely loved it. The chemistry between Jason and Virginia was amazing. The friction between Lainie and Virginia was intense and interesting. The writing was very well done and the setting was unbelievably beautiful. I can honestly say that would've been an extremely hard choice to make, especially with Jason Momoa being my alternative.

Don't get me wrong,I'm all for the sanctity of marriage, but to escape an unfulfilled life with a disrespectful, brat of a daughter and end up in paradise with the hottest Hawaiian on the island. That might make a woman stop and reconsider her options. I think this is one of lifetime's greatest movies yet.

Jason Momoa made the movie worthwhile. *g*
msjsjellybean23 November 2003
Okay, for starters, why did they cast old-ass Virginia Madsen to play alongside the young hottie that is Jason Momoa?! That was too unbelievable from the get-go. Jason made the movie watchable and he was just so damn cute and sweet, making me drool everywhere while watching him flex the nice pecks that he carries around. *g*

He looked too young for her from the start, and he's just a baby himself, so why did they cast him with a fifteen-year old son?! No way! That never worked, but he played it off really good. He made his character into a mature looking man, pulling off the age differences well, and making the plot exceptional.

Good for a Sunday afternoon getaway...
lmyeary-110 December 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Yes, this movie may be a bit predictable, however the scenery is phenomenal and the acting is very good. It is a story about a woman who has lost her way. Upon returning the ashes of her adopted mother Lily to Hawaii, she begins to find her true self again. She is not, as one of the previous reviewers states, a cheating wife. She is in fact a typical wife and mother who is taken for granted by her family. She is also responsible for neglecting herself and the relationships that are important to her, including her relationships with her adopted mother, Lily, her husband and her children. She learns to reconnect with all of the people that matter to her through her journey in returning Lily to her homeland. It is actually quite touching to watch her as she rediscovers what is important in life: family. A very touching story that is a guilty pleasure to watch.
