Lucy Lawless, who was the star of Xena: Warrior Princess (1995), is in this film, while her Xena costar, Renée O'Connor, was in Boogeyman 2 (2007). Charles Mesure, who plays Lawless' husband, was an occasional costar of Xena. The producers of Xena, Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi, are the producers of the Boogeyman films.
"Boogeyman" (2005) starred Barry Watson, while his 7th Heaven (1996) brother David Gallagher has a small role in Boogeyman 2 (2007).
To prepare for the nail gun sequence, Barry Watson spent six weeks training with field experts and construction specialists. Once he decided on the model he wanted to use, the Banks 18 Gauge Brad Air Nailer, Watson spent an additional two weeks at Banks headquarters in Harrington, Delaware, to discuss spec possibilities and work with the manufacturers on perfecting the model. The studio initially balked at the cost but producers assured them of the importance of this sequence and that the training would be evident in Watson's performance. Though reception of the film was largely negative, many critics pointed to this sequence as being a highlight of the film, noting Watson's incredible expertise with nail guns.
