Stephen Colbert honed his David Byrne impression in front of a live audience on Saturday night, performing the Talking Heads' hit "Once in a Lifetime" at a benefit concert for the Montclair Film Festival.
Colbert opened his rendition of the Eighties classic by mimicking one of Byrne's moves from the "Once in a Lifetime" video, throwing his arms over his head and his torso backward as if blown by a fierce gust of wind. The band for the evening, dubbed the Loser's Lounge, ripped through "Once in a Lifetime...

Later tonight, close to 2,000 moviegoers will fill Howard Gilman Opera House in Brooklyn to watch Terrence Malick’s “Tree of Life,” set to a live score played by a 110-piece orchestra and choir. It’s the seventh live score production by the New York-based Wordless Music Orchestra, which has previously staged live music productions of other modern day classics like “There Will Be Blood” and “Under the Skin.”
For the founder of Wordless Music, Ronen Givony, the need to create a heightened sense of occasion with a live event is vital in the age of Netflix and Spotify.

Neil deGrasse Tyson on StarTalk Season 2: Cosmos, Comedy and Why Charlie Sheen (?!) Is a Dream Guest
Neil deGrasse Tyson is an astrophysicist, which means he’s smarter than we are.
He’s also a darling of late-night talk shows — thanks to his affable manner and gift for translating science into normalspeak — which means he’s way cooler than we are.
So naturally, we leapt at the chance to talk with him in his office at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, where he is director of the Hayden Planetarium. Our excuse? The return of his Emmy-nominated, science-by-way-of-comedy National Geographic Channel series StarTalk, which kicks off Season 2 on Saturday (11/10c).
Below are some highlights from the conversation,...

Los Angeles transplants often bemoan the city's lack of networking opportunities. L.A.'s geography and inglorious public transit make it difficult to schedule small events. Moreover, it can be difficult to find showcases for indie shorts and features, which otherwise would find an audience in a different locale. That’s beginning to change. In addition to monthly events like NewFilmmakers Los Angeles, there’s the Indie Night Film Festival that takes place every Saturday at the Inside Jokes Comedy Club in Hollywood. Click here for how to submit. There is a two-drink minimum at the event. Other upcoming events include: Eli Roth’s Halloween All Night Marathon Oct. 31 All Night New Beverly Cinema 7165 West Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles http://www.thenewbev.com/ Screening of “Showrunners” Followed by Q&A With Showrunner Jeff Melvoin ("Army Wives") and Filmmaker Des Doyle Nov. 1 at 4:15 p.m. Arena Cinema Hollywood 1625 North Las Palmas Ave.

Paul McCartney and Mumford & Sons are among the headliners for the 2013 Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, Tenn.

Returnees Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers also hold down a headliner spot. Then things get a little crazy with R&B star R. Kelly, alternative queen Bjork and Wu-Tang Clan celebrating its 20th anniversary. Wilco, Pretty Lights, The Lumineers, The National, The xx, Kendrick Lamar, A$AP Rocky, Nas and Zz Top also top the list announced Tuesday by "Weird Al" Yankovic via Bonnaroo's YouTube channel.
Tickets go on sale at noon Est on Saturday.
McCartney, the former Beatle and recent frontman of Sirvana, will be making his first appearance at the event.

Venice, Italy — Russian director Aleksander Sokurov's "Faust," a new take on the German legend about the quest for knowledge at all cost, won the Golden Lion prize at the Venice Film Festival on Saturday.
"Faust" tells the tale of a professor, played by Johannes Zeiler, who craves knowledge and sells his soul for the love of Margarete, played by Isolda Dychauk. The Mephistopheles character is played by Anton Adasinskiy.
Dense and difficult to watch, "Faust" was nevertheless one of the critics' top choices among the 23 in-competition films at Venice this year. It marks the final chapter in Sokurov's four-film look at the relationship between man and power that began with "Moloch" in 1999 about Hitler, "Taurus" a year later about Lenin and the 2005 film "The Sun" about Japanese Emperor Hirohito.
At a post-award news conference, Sokurov made an impassioned plea for governments to continue supporting culture with state funds.
"Culture is not a luxury!

Kate Winslet's award-deserving vomit, plus the battle for the Golden Lion, and on the sofa with Jake Chapman
Kate Winslet's award-deserving vomit
By general consent, this year's Venice film festival has been a standout. One of the busiest actors has been Kate Winslet (below), promoting Carnage, Mildred Pierce and Contagion. She delivers great performances in all three projects – but what may be talked about more than anything is her award-deserving vomit in Carnage.
She described how it was done: a mix of careful rigging and CGI as she could not hold the required amount of vomit in her mouth. The puke was, perhaps, mixed a little too realistically. "Everything smelt of sick for days," said Winslet. "I went home and it was in the crevices of my fingers and my hair."
It had been made from the plot-central apple and pear cobbler prepared by Jodie Foster's character,...

I envy you … the unwashed masses, the blissfully unemployed, the bearded and bedraggled. You get to go to Bonnaroo, to revel in four days of unadulterated muck and music and mind-altering substances. I don’t, because I am stuck in meetings all week.
And this is most certainly a bummer. See, I love Bonnaroo. I think it’s the best fest in America, an experience every music fan must have at least once in their lives (and I’m not just saying this because, back in 2007, I got to fly a helicopter there).
But this year, because of the time constraints due to back-to-back-to-back business meetings (read: impending adulthood), I’m not going to make it down to Manchester, Tennessee. I will probably regret this for the rest of my life, because Bonnaroo 2009 looks like it’s going to be a blast.
And, yeah, I know that the weather forecast...
