Good believable movie.
Don Quixote1 March 2004
This movie is great because it's believable. The acting is not stellar, but it's not bad either. It has an interesting plot that isn't predictable. There isn't much action so if you are a patient person I recommend this movie. The movie deals with a guy that decides not to leave his apartment-- he is able to live by doing everything remotely using various forms of technology (phone, internet etc.). It seems plausible that he could survive this way-- that's why it's a believable movie. Of course, that's not the main focus of movie. It also deals with psychological aspects of someone who never leaves his apartment.

Oooh, and they use BeOS which is probably the first time I've ever seen that OS used in a movie.

I'd definitely watch other movies made by these people.

Great Story, Low-Budget Delivery

Warning: Spoilers
I quite enjoyed this film. The premise is the best part -- a guy becomes fed up with the treadmill of daily life and retreats to his apartment. That kind of unusual story is why I watch movies, and thank God for independent films, because Hollywood would never deliver something like this.

Having said that, this *is* a low-budget film, and the acting is pretty average at times. The main character's friend Jerry didn't strike me as particularly believable, and the scene where Guy appears on his balcony to a throng of fans also strained credulity.

The best thing about the film is the message it delivers. This is the path of the Hermit, retreating from society in order to perfect oneself. In our hectic world, such a move may seem extreme, but as the movie aptly demonstrates, removing all your distractions allows you to focus on being the person you always wanted to be. Guy emerges smarter, stronger, wealthier...and ultimately more connected to the world he left.
