"Cuarteto para el fin del tiempo" or "Quartet for the End of Time" is a Mexican live action short film from 1938, so this one has its 35th anniversary this year. And I am pretty sure the only reason why it is not forgotten by now is because the writer and director here is a certain Alfonso Cuarón in his early 20s, one of his mainden filmmaking efforts back then. Now he is an Oscar winner, probably will be another one in 2019 again, and of course people are looking at what he did very early in his career. Lead actor here is Angel Torralba and he did not pursue a career in acting afterwards, but he is okay in this one. It is a film in the Spanish language, but not a whole lot of talk because it is almost only one man from beginning to end with nobody to talk to. A little film on solitude, nothing special though and you can see for yourself that if you are a filmmaker than regardless of how mediocre your early works may be, you can still make it very big afterwards. Now back to this one here: This is really the epitome of a film in which nothing happens. The turtle scene and the balloon scenes are already the highlights, but none of these made a difference for me. All in all, I hoped for more as this never becomes a convincing character study or anything, so yeah go skip the watch here. It's not a failure, but even (or especially) for Cuarón lovers, it will be a drag despite not only running for half an hour. Go for something else instead.
