Mira Sorvino is giving an update on the Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion sequel that is in the works.
In a recent interview, the Oscar winner revealed that Robin Schiff is returning to write the follow-up movie, but her work on a Netflix series is keeping her from finishing the script.
“She’s currently working on Emily in Paris, so she’s finishing up her draft to present to the studio,” Sorvino told Us magazine in an interview. “Lisa [Kudrow] and I are wrapping up our deals as executive producers on it with the studio. We’re full force ahead.”
Sorvino and Kudrow starred in the 1997 comedy directed by David Mirkin from a screenplay by Schiff based on the 1988 stage play Ladies Room. The film revolves around the titular characters returning to high school to impress their former classmates, making up fake careers by saying they invented Post-its.

Is there anything better than that walk down memory lane, wondering what if and what could have been?
This holiday treasure weaves a tale of two inseparable friends whose festive homecoming sparks a life-altering revelation, reminiscent of the heartwarming escapades in cult classics like Romi & Michelle's High School Reunion and Sixteen Candles.
Hallmark's ability to capture the holiday spirit is indisputable, but with Never Been Chris'd, they've tapped into the very essence of festive nostalgia and the enduring power of friendship.
Recent years have seen this exploration enhanced, which is a delightful pivot underscoring the timeless theme that friends are the family we choose.
Bringing friendship to the forefront of Hallmark's programming has opened new storytelling avenues that never cease to amaze.
Janel Parrish and Pascal Lamothe-Kipnes star in this instant classic as Naomi and Liz, who couldn't be closer if they'd been twin sisters.

What's leaving Netflix in March? Well, the streaming service is expiring a slew of movies and TV shows, with a big chunk of the departing titles belonging to the Cartoon Network -- you'll see those say bye-bye at the end of the month. From what we can tell, that's about it in terms of TV exiting Watch Instantly.
As for movies, the clock is ticking for favorites "Dumb and Dumber," "Fright Night," Desperado," "Seven," "Pretty in Pink," "Romy and Michele's High School Reunion," and "The Muppet Movie," which will all be pulled in the monthly purge.
Here's the complete list of titles that will vanish from your streaming list (pending any sort of meddling time-travelers). And, just so you're not left empty-handed, here's a list of what's new on Netflix in March 2015.
Leaving March 1
"3 Ninjas: Kick Back" (1994)
"Air Bud" (1997)
"Anaconda" (1997)
"Arachnophobia" (1990)
"Brokedown Palace" (1999)

This is worse than wearing sweatpants: Mean Girls isn’t getting a Tina Fey-penned sequel!Despite some hopeful speculation from fans recently, Fey confirmed the news to Extra on Wednesday, saying, “We’re coming up next month on the 10-year anniversary of the original movie… We’re going to see if there’s any way to get everyone together, but not a movie, sadly. We’re all past high school age.” (Mean Girls 2, the 2011 TV movie sequel with a whole new group of girls, is best not mentioned.)Like any good twenty-something, I love the movie, but the “no...

What a blur of activity and film that filled my first Sundance Film Festival, with my sixth day mostly at press screenings for Texas-related films Pit Stop, Prince Avalanche and Upstream Color. Read my review of Yen Tan's Pit Stop here, which you can watch at SXSW along with the low-key comedy Prince Avalanche and Shane Carruth's Upstream Color, his journey delving into psychological sci-fi.
I also watched Ass Backwards, a feminine version of the buddy road trip full of crass and self-absorbed humor. As much as I tried to enjoy this raunchy comedy, I found the storyline and editing quite messy, especially a subplot involving a reality TV personality who's a meth head and sex addict. Kudos to writers and stars June Diane Raphael and Casey Wilson for putting their butts literally on the line, but save yourself time and instead watch the classic Romy and Michele's High School Reunion.

They have a right to be pissed.
It's the most important morning of the year. Hollywood is temporarily jolted from its stupor for a ten-minute rollercoaster of natural highs and shattered dreams. Nothing but ... shattered dreams.
It's those shattered dreams that immediately become the focus after the Oscar nominations are announced. With only five slots per category, deserving actors are excluded, and that's when the fun begins, as the discussion about the "snubs" commences.
That was especially true this year, as a flurry of serious contenders were nowhere to be found. Charlize Theron, Tilda Swinton, Leonardo Dicaprio, and Albert Brooks were the names most bandied about, along with Andy Serkis (and they should really either nominate him, or give him a special Oscar for his unique contributions to film.)
Of course, Oscar has a history of overlooking interesting and memorable performances. Let's take a look at a few notable Oscar omissions.

It’s a brand new year, and now that the festivities are well and truly done in Britain – where everything literally transforms into a Muppet’s Christmas Carol style wonderland where cars skid balletically and fatally across the smallest patches of ice , all households run out of salt and everything shuts down embarrassingly, as if noone was expecting the identical annual weather patterns - we can recommence with the serious business of buying as much multi-coloured movie crap as our bulging homes can take. No, of course I don’t believe it’s crap, but then I am one of those people who will be found in later years crushed under a pile of mint in the box Romy & Michelle’s High School Reunion action figures, half-eaten by cats. Some might call it a problem, I call that a wonderfully fitting end. The more astute of you will notice I’ve dropped the numeric from the title...

I am very disappointed in myself right now for many reasons (intense cold-weather reclusion, strong identification with Charlize Theron’s character in Young Adult, weight gain), but at the top of the list is confirmation of my recent aversion to video stores.
I’m supposed to appreciate these relics, the sprawling box-like storefronts that just seem to bleed out smaller and smaller rectangles — 99-cent outdated movie posters, clunky VHS tapes the stores will practically pay you to remove, DVDs-for-purchase that no one will ever open again. Every few days during the late ’90s, I moped around the Garden Market Blockbuster (now out of business,...

Look everybody! The Aluminum Monster came back! As did Fatty Magoo, Schmitty, and a good old fashioned choreographed dance routine in "The High School Reunion Part 2: The Gang's Revenge".
What can I say about Sunny? Just when I think they've done it all, they go and outdo themselves with an even more ludicrous scenario. Leading off from last week's fiasco, the Gang decided to take revenge upon the "cool kids".
Kinda hard to do when you're hanging from the restroom door.
Even harder to do when no one really even gave a crap you were around in the first place. A lesson Dennis learned the hard way when even Tim Murphy's wife thought he was gay. Dude was wearing makeup and a girdle after all.
Really Dennis?! I almost choked when he said it was because he wanted to appear thinner. Not to mention how hard I lost...

This is the first part of the weekend monster update, with more news & stuff coming in the next couple of days.
I got my Grimms confused in yesterday's post as it turns out. Tonight's episode won't be "Let Your Hair Down," but "The Three Bad Wolves." Rapunzel doesn't show up until next week.
Nick (David Giuntoli) is called to a suspected arson case, which exposes a longstanding family feud that brings Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) face-to-face with characters from his troubled past. While Monroe wrestles with restraining his wild side, it’s up to Nick to keep everything from going up in flames. Russell Hornsby, Bitsie Tulloch, Sasha Roiz and Reggie Lee also star. There are a few sneak peeks at THR and Dread Central. Spoiler TV has the promotional stills. Here is the teaser:
Yesterday's excellent "Danse Macabre," which did well in the ratings, is available on NBC.com.

In our writers' favourite film series, Michael Hann and family find solace in Ted Demme's flawed but incisive ensemble drama
• Not pretty enough? Post your own review of Demme's Beautiful Girls – or leave a comment in the thread
You could argue that Ted Demme's Beautiful Girls is little more than an artfully arranged array of Hollywood comedy-drama archetypes. High school reunion? Yes. Bunch of tight childhood friends on divergent paths? Yes. Plus you've got unattainable girls, commitment issues, and the need to make a big decision that will change everything forever. And there are the character archetypes, too: the smooth lothario whose life is really a sham, the deluded jerk, the square, the happy loser, the cool but not too cool guy we're set up to identify with, the kinda kooky but great girl we're meant to fall in love with, the sassy best friend, the glamorous outsider with the model looks.

It’s been nearly fifteen years (Btw Kill Me) since Romy And Michele’s High School Reunion became a beloved 90′s classic that quietly usurped any comic relevance Austin Powers had before Mike Myers turned it into one long fart joke. People love Romy And Michele for its particularly weird characters, the demented, darker spawn of Clueless‘s Cher and Dionne, appropriately complimented by Alan Cumming. Now, the girls — ahem, ladies — Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino have reunited for the Entertainment Weekly Reunions Issue, and they look amazing. Oh, and they’re also wearing dresses made out of Post-It notes (remember?). You can evem place a bid for the dress if you want. Let’s be honest: you already know that “this dress exacerbates the genetic betrayal that is [your] legacy.” [Entertainment Weekly via Buzzfeed]...

As Romy and Michele found out the hard way, trying to come out on top at a reunion can be, like, a totally fruitless endeavor. Thankfully, there were no popularity contests at this reunion. It’s been roughly 15 years since the concoction of the Post-it scheme to end all Post-it schemes, but Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow have remained friends. “We genuinely like each other and crack each other up,” Sorvino said. The Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion actresses reunited on July 25 in Los Angeles for EW’s annual Reunions issue, but their frequent giggles and undeniable chemistry...

We know you loved seeing Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion co-stars Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino together again in EW’s Reunions Issue (on stands now!), but did you find yourself just as wooed by their custom-made Post-it note dresses? (See photo after the jump.)
If so, you’re in luck: Their colorful (and now autographed!) duds could be yours!
Both dresses from EW’s photo shoot are being auctioned off in order to benefit P.S. Arts, an organization that seeks to improve the lives of children by bringing arts education to underserved public schools and their communities.

With Killer Elite hitting theaters this Friday, I thought that ‘Assassin Films’ would make a great Top 10 list subject. We’ve seen a lot of great films with that theme, and some that best remain forgotten.
I present to you my Top 10 list, and keep in mind this is limited to what I have seen and my personal tastes. This is not the be all and end all of Assassin Films, but these are the ones that float my boat. Agree/Disagree? Let’s find out …
10.) Crying Freeman (1995)
Perhaps the most obscure film on my list, and I am sure the fact that I have named the live-action version and not the anime will anger some readers. However this humble writer has not had the privilege to see the anime as yet, and when I finally got to see this film earlier in the year I was impressed. Not only...

In response to Ologist Emily Cheever's list of women in movies who "want it all,"* (in turn inspired by the upcoming Sarah Jessica Parker sh*tfest I Don't Know How She Does It**) here is a list of basically apathetic, borderline misanthropic failures who happen to be of the female persuasion. Lessons aren't learned, (important) goals aren't achieved. They neither have nor want "it all." Unless "it" is "all" the Taco Bell.

Everyone knows that in horror sequels are inevitable. When you hit the right chord and people dig it, it only makes sense. Determined to prove that the sequel can be as good the original, Days of the Dead has announced not one but two shows next year.
Based on the success of Days of the Dead in Indianapolis, they will be taking all of their shows and events to Atlanta, Georgia, March 9-11, 2012. But don't worry, they will be bringing the madness back to Indianapolis July 6-8, 2012.
Days of the Dead: Atlanta has already announced some of their guests including: Pj Soles (Halloween, Carrie, Stripes, Rock N' Roll High School), Dey Young (Rock N' Roll High School, Running Man, The Serpent and the Rainbow, Red Eye)- This will be the first Rock N' Roll High School reunion in 30 years, Gary Busey (Silver Bullet, Predator 2, Pirahna 3Dd), Taafe O' Connell (Galaxy of Terror,...

Mira Sorvino fights for survival against a cadre of mutant cockroaches in Mimic.
The director’s cut of Guillermo Del Toro’s (Cronos) 2007 mutant cockroach chiller Mimic arrives on Blu-ray on Sept. 27 packed with new special features. Lionsgate assigned the disc the list price of $19.99.
The movie has been previously released on Blu-ray in Canada, though not the director’s cut, which is making its premiere on the U.S. release.
The horror/science-fiction hybrid follows entomologist Susan Tyler (Mira Sorvino, Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion), who creates a mutant breed of insect that secretes a fluid designed to squash an epidemic created by disease-carrying cockroaches in Manhattan. Though the mutant strain was engineered to die after one generation, three years later, Susan discovers that the species has survived and evolved into a larger, even more gruesome breed of monster that can mimic human form. Yuck!

We try and persuade the director of Bridesmaids, Paul Feig, to put together a 20th anniversary Freaks And Geeks reunion. And we ask him lots about Bridesmaids, too.
It's been a long time coming, but with Bridesmaids finally hitting big, Paul Feig has a significant hit to his name. It's well deserved, too, and follows the likes of the mighty Freaks And Geeks earning massive acclaim, but promptly being cancelled, by people time has proven should have known better.
As Bridesmaids finally arrives in the UK, we caught up with Paul Feig to ask him a few questions...
I've followed lots of your stuff over the years, and I think it's fair to say that you've never had anything that's come close to doing $136m at the Us box office?
No, definitely not! I'm not used to it at all!
Is it an odd feeling now, and is that commercial success important to you?...

Hit Me With Your Best Shot is a series where we look at favorite images and choose a "best shot" from a pre-selected movie. The moments that most define a film, elevate it, or merely gives us the most visual pleasure. "Best" is a fluid adjective. Two Weeks From Now (June 29th) we'll be discussing Luchino Vischonti's Rocco And His Brothers (1960). Won't you join us? It's supposed to be awesome.
Francis Ford Coppola's Peggy Sue Got Married (1986).
It's all in the transitions with Peggy Sue Got Married. And with Peggy Sue (Kathleen Turner), who begins the picture distraught over her impending divorce and ends the picture by rejecting that new future (divorce) and for the recent past (troubled marriage). In the present tense, she's attending a high school reunion (a celebration of the past) while worrying about her future. And soon, after collapsing on the reunion's stage, she's thrust back into her own past.

Onetime Taxi driver Jeff Conaway passed away on Friday at a Los Angeles hospital. The actor was taken off life support after doctors were unable to revive him two weeks after he was placed in a medically induced coma.
Conaway had arrived at the hospital unconscious and with pneumonia, the result of “just too many prescribed drugs,” the Los Angeles Times reports.
Conaway’s myriad here-and-there TV credits include The Bold and the Beautiful (as fashion fotog Mick Savage) and Babylon 5 (where he played Security Chief Zack Allan). But it’s the role of forever aspiring — and somewhat daft...

Surprise: Even though they’re both raunchy, and they both revolve around weddings, Bridesmaids isn’t really a female version of The Hangover. The grade-a new comedy is actually a mash-up of several other flicks — and using my degree in Fake Mathematics from Pennbrook University, I was able to determine just what those other movies are. Here’s an explanation for my calculations:
1. Start with Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, a goofy 1997 comedy that follows the misadventures of two grown-up but immature BFFs. Bridesmaids stars Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph have great chemistry, just like Romy (Mira Sorvino...

Ready for another serving of American Pie? I hope so because Movieweb is hearing that Universal Pictures has slated American Reunion for release on April 6th, 2012. Hayden Schlossberg and Jon Hurwitz will be directing the film, and have been attempting to get the original cast to return. A few of them have already been confirmed (here, here and here), but there’s still a ways to go. The film will feature the gang returning to attend their High School reunion. There’s still no word on when production will begin, but they will need to start soon to meet the date.

With over 100 credits under her belt in movies like The Parent Trap and Romy & Michelle's High School Reunion, as well as TV roles in Joan of Arcadia, Criminal Minds and most recently, 90210, the gorgeous model/singer/dancer/actress has done everything from theater to television to films to producing. Universal has nabbed their three famous leads from the American Pie series for one last sequel, titled American Reunion, reports What's Playing?. Their article states that so far Jason Biggs, Eugene Levy and Sean William Scott have officially signed on, the rest of the original cast are currently in talks to join also. The general story this time around is the East Falls Class of 1999 return to their California home town for their 10 year High School reunion (this is made possible by Facebook, of all things). When the gang hooks up for one more great weekend, the realization that they're no longer young, carefree teens sets in. Inside the article is a ton of spoilerific content, which I won't write here as it's pretty much the plot of the entire fucking movie. I will say this though, as a teen that grew up on the American Pie films, it'll...

With its new slate of original programming, there's just not enough room in the schedule for TV Land to air many classic TV shows anymore.
At least that's the word from executive vice president Jaci Cohen. Or to quote her directly, "There are still only 24 hours in a day." TV Land viewers have been posting complaints/suggestions on the network's Facebook page, many irritated that classic sitcoms are being pushed aside in favor of reality shows like 'High School Reunion' and 'She's Got the Look.' While it's true that TV Land is investing in some original, old fashioned comedies -- like 'Hot in Cleveland' and 'Retired at 35' -- it's been moving away from the classics for some time now.
But there's still hope! We live in a world of 9,000 cable channels, and here are five places where you can get your classic TV fix.

It doesn’t take much sleuthing on TV Land’s Facebook page to discover some of the channel’s viewers are downright peeved. Their demands? Academy Award-winning actress Mira Sorvino is once again trying to break away from her role of Romy in the hit 1997 movie ‘Romy And Michele’s High School Reunion’ by agreeing to star in the new film ‘Union Square’. Is it weird Mira Sorvino won an Oscar and people still think of her as Romy from Romy And Michele.s High School Reunion? I don.t think so, but then again, to me, Paul Newman will always be Reg from Slap Shot. You can.t change how people perceive you. That being said, you can continue to take risky, challenging movies and hope your work will stand for itself. According to Deadline, the former Woody Allen muse has agreed to star in indie director Nancy Savoca.s upcoming Union Square. You may remember Savoca as a force behind the made for HBO movie If These Walls Could Talk that saw Demi Moore play a 1950s woman trying to get an abortion. With ratings and revenue on the rise, basic cable is taking aim at network TV's supremacy.
When Conan O'Brien string-dances on TBS this November, it'll mark a major victory for cable television, which has long been considered second string to big broadcasters ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC. But any way you slice it -- reach, revenue, ratings, and (as Team Coco shows) respect -- cable is king. Today, with about 90% of Americans now subscribing in some form, basic cable is basically the norm. Revenue is rising, up 14% over the past two years, to $48 billion, compared with a 4% slump for broadcast channels, to $16 billion. "Broadcast television's audience share has been eaten away," says Bill Gorman, media analyst and cofounder of TV by the Numbers. "The danger to broadcast TV isn't the Internet -- it's cable."

George Hamilton, reality TV star?
The famously tanned actor is developing a docusoap for TV Land that could be described as a real-life "Two and a Half Men."
Bunim Murray ("The Real World," "Keeping Up With the Kardashians") will produce the show, which chronicles the lives of Hamilton and his older son Ashley and younger son George Thomas. In the show's logline, Hamilton and Ashley are perpetual bachelors who have to grow up when 10-year-old George comes to L.A. to live with them.
Aside from numerous guest appearances, Hamilton's last regular series was the late 1990s NBC sitcom "Jenny.' He also had a recurring role on the 1980s classic "Dynasty."
Best known for running classic sitcoms, TV Land has increasingly invested in reality fare, dipping its toe into the genre last year with the launch of "The Cougar" and "High School Reunion."
