Boring and Bad
sparktom3 September 2008
I want the time back I invested in watching this crap.

The acting isn't the worst I've seen, but the STORY is absurd. Paul Sorvino needs a better gig. Dukakis needs a better gig. Isn't there some Hollywood welfare system for these two? Clearly, they're struggling to get a decent script.

Given that talent exists with the cast, the Director has to take the blame for a performance lacking any chemistry. The lines are delivered, the action is done ... yet, I feel it falls flat. I can only imagine what wound up on the editor's floor.

Keep looking if you want to watch a decent mob flick tonight.

Good Movie

"Mafia Doctor" is a good movie about an honest young Doctor who only wants to save lives. Unfortunately he is thrown into a life with people who only want to take them aft the mob pays his way through college. I found the movie to be entertaining and interesting. The acting was very good by all involved, especially Danny Nucci, Joanne Kelly and Jonathan Scarfe. I liked it and you should check it out if you ever have the chance. I give it 8/10

Absorbing Story from a Different Angle

Deftly directed story about a young man caught in between conscience, duty and his debt to the mob.

I do not normally gravitate to stories of this nature - but the title character's approach to the role caught my attention.

Danny Nucci was perfectly cast as the "mafia doctor. His intelligently understated performance proves once again that Daniel continues to grow as an actor and should be offered more and more interesting roles to play. He's definitely one of my favorite actors.

The supporting cast headed by Paul Sorvino and Olympia Dukakis also performed at their highest pitch and it was a pleasure to see these two outstanding actors in these roles. I particularly enjoyed Jonathan Scarfe's portrayal of Nucci's best friend. Also, I enjoyed the performance of the man who play the police detective (whose name I cannot recall.)

I recommend this thoughtful tale to anyone who is normally turned off by mob stories. It was presented in such a manner which avoided the sleazy-slinky stereotypes one usually sees in much lesser efforts.
