If Footmen Tire You What Will Horses Do? (1971) Poster

Cecil Scaiffe: The Commissar

Quotes

  • The Commissar : What's the matter, little boy?

Dark haired boy : Where's my momma, and my daddy? You've killed them haven't you?

The Commissar : Yes... Think of how much better off you will be. The State will provide for you, take care of your every need. Much better than your mother or father, either.

Dark haired boy : I don't want yo' state. I want my momma, and my daddy!

The Commissar : Now you listen to me, little boy. What is done is done! You now belong to the state. Now you listen very carefully to what I have to say. We do not want to kill you! But we will - unless you cooperate.

[taking the boy's painting of Jesus]

The Commissar : Now then... Now if you will step on this picture of your Jesus, with your heel, we will let you go free.

[throws the painting to the ground and smears his foot across it]

The Commissar : But if you don't -

    [opening a large knife]

The Commissar : we will cut your head off.

Dark haired boy : [looking to the sky]  Jesus, one day you died for me, and I'm willing to die for you.

    [glares back at the Commissar]

The Commissar : Why you stupid little *foo*!
