A clever (if clumsy) look at race (SPOILERS)
bob the moo12 October 2002
Warning: Spoilers
A woman in full Muslim dress goes into a department store and begins to shop lift. She runs and escapes capture.

This film is actually quite clever if you ignore the majority of the story. The story is a shop lifting where the criminal turns out to be a white male instead of an Asian woman. However at the start of the film we have a voice over telling us that the narrator's family moved here from east and describes how hard it is to have a community feeling in a block of flats etc and how they have changed as a result. The film ends with a series of pictures of people of all races.

What this does is to show the audience that the problems of society affect all races and peoples from where ever. This challenged me because I had assumed that it was an Asian - especially going by the dialogue that makes you assume things.

I suppose it had to be set somewhere - but the majority of the film being a shop lifting and a chase rather takes away from it's point. A good try - and an interesting point.
