Foley (no not Axel)

This 7 minute featurette on the sound effects of "Men in Black 2" can be found on the second disc of the 2-DVD special edition of the aforementioned movie. I was very interested in meeting the Foleys and the interesting ways they make the sound effects. It just seems like a very cool job, but i'm sure like every other job out there that it gets old after doing it for years and years. And they probably believe the their jobs are so very important. Poor deluded fools hahaha!! But I digress it does make for a pretty fun and informative featurette and hands down the best extra to be found on the second disc of this DVD set.

My Grade: C

Warning: Spoilers
This consists of interviews with the cast and crew, all of whom have something compelling to add within their area of expertise(and there is a very clear love of what they're working on), clips from the movie, behind-the-scenes footage, and incomplete effects shots.

It's 8 minutes long. This is found on the double disc DVD of Men in Black II. It spoils a lot of the film, and so will this review, so that I can go into more detail.

They talk about having to split up the tasks. First they have to determine what they have to get, by isolating every single thing that makes a sound. Including ones such as Jeebs' head being shot and the splatter of the parts landing. The reveal of the actual face of the alien that grabs Jay when he's on the ground, or, rather, when his mask lands. They have to become the character they do sound for, even for something as small as footsteps.

I recommend this to any fan of the property. 8/10

That's a job!? Very interesting and funny short

A look behind the scenes of MIIB to watch the foley artists at work adding all the background and special effects noises to the finished scenes. Covering everything from an alien battle to Agent J walking across a floor, we see what they use and how they use it.

That's a job? This was my reaction upon seeing what this short was about. I could believe this ragtag group of individuals throw stuff around for a living. However watching this short really made me appreciate their work - work I have never really thought about before. I know that these people exist but I never think about how much they contribute.

This short does a good job of letting us hear from the people involved. It avoids being a promo for MIIB and the actual film they are working on is a mere detail. The people are all good-natured and you do feel bad for undervaluing them. Some of them talk very grandly about their profession and are a bit much but the majority are good humoured yet still manage to show that it involves skill and not just throwing stuff around!

This stood out from the other MIIB shorts as it is actually about the process rather than the film. It is quite interesting as it is funny to see them using day to day objects to get sounds that are used in a multi-million dollar sci-fi film that has state of the art visual effects!

It is interesting and funny and is well worth a watch. Easily stands out from the collection of MIIB production-documentary shorts.
