The fifth edition of the Bengaluru International Film Festival will hold retrospectives of Girish Kasaravalli and Jahnu Barua among others. Five of Kasaravalli’s films: Tabarana Kathe (1986), Kraurya (1996), Thaayi Saheba (1997), Dweepa (2003) and Hasina (2004)will be screened. While Barua’s Halodhia Choraye Baodhan Khai (1987), Banani (1990), Firingoti (1992) and Hkhagoroloi Bohu Door(1995) will be screened.
Besides, three other sections are dedicated to Indian cinema. Chitrabharathi – Indian Cinema Competition, Kannada Cinema (competition and screening of films in other dialects in Karnataka) and 100 years of Indian Cinema (screening of 14 films).

A Girish Kasaravalli Retrospective will be held at the Lumiere Cinema Club in the city of Vigo, in northern Spain throughout the month of January 2012.
The films to be screened in the Retrospective are Dweepa (2003), Hasina (2004), Gulabi Talkies (2008) and Riding The Stallion of Dreams (2010).
Kasaravalli won the National Film Award for four films including Dweepa.
This Retrospective is being organized by ImagineIndia in collaboration with Rosebud Films.

Filmmaker Girish Kasaravalli who was conferred the Padmashri this year has started shooting his new project titled Koormavathaara. This film is based on a novel by Kannada writer Kum Veerabhadrappa.
The film will depict the changes witnessed in the country in the last six decades, according to Kasaravalli.
Koormavathaara is being produced by Basanth Kumar Patil, former president of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, who had produced Kasaravalli’s earlier films–Naayi Neralu and Kanasemba Kudureyanner.
Kasaravalli won the National Award for Best Film four times for — Ghatashraddha (1977), Tabarana Kathe (1986), Thaayi Saheba (1997) and Dweepa (2001).
