Very unexpected
MovieAddict201617 January 2006
Warning: Spoilers
A lowly woman gets on a French subway and is traveling in silence when a man suddenly appears and announces that he is in search of a woman as he hasn't been in love for over two years and is tired of feeling empty.

People laugh and scoff at the man but he ignores them, and asks any woman who is interested to get off at the next bus stop. Well, the bus stops, the woman gleefully gets off, turns around - only to realize the man on the bus was doing it solely for entertainment, to gain money from travelers.

The film ends with her standing on the platform, alone.

I was taken aback by the suddenness of the ending. It's pretty powerful, especially considering it's only four minutes long. But the director manages to convey a lot of things just through facial expressions, particularly the woman's.

Pretty brutal little film, but a very good one.

An emotional ride
Jirorian4 June 2018
Quite literally an emotional ride, "I'll Wait for the Next One" offers the promise of a fateful encounter only to be challenged abruptly by a surprise ending. The surprise works because our feelings are channeled through the eyes of the woman, whom in becoming the dupe of the male perpetrator forces viewers along to share in her struggle. The film thus raises many questions regarding the nature of the conflict it depicts: why is it not surprising that the man is the perpetrator and the woman is the dupe? Why are we drawn to believe the man's story, and what does his final action reveal about the nature of men as societal beings? Is the ending a fault of the woman or of the man? If the woman is at fault, do women need to just be more careful in an overtly oppressive society? Or if the man is at fault, does he need to be more considerate of the extent to which his actions inflict damage upon society? The depiction is that both the woman and the man are at the extreme ends of their respective depths of capacity for emotional sentiment, and it is a very crude depiction that does little to progress away from the repression inherent to patriarchal societies. However, the responsibility to answer the questions posed by the film lies in the viewer, and as a result so too does the responsibility to make any changes in the real world away from what we see on screen.

Good role model of short film
Fjkkn14 May 2021
I will wait for the next one is a short film and the leading character is a woman who has no dialogue. When she arrives at the station and goes down on the escalator, her gaze is drawn to a couple. She looks sad and bored by her day-to-day life. On the train, a man suddenly introduces himself and speaks out that he is looking for a lady who can share true love with him and then asks passengers to get off at the next station if interested. She gets curious.... While I think this film is flawless in its technical aspects, after I watched it, I felt really frustrated about the narrative. Contrary to the man, the woman doesn't say anything and only has facial expressions, but I can image her romantic background for some reason such as marital status in the past. I am curious about what happens next for the woman and the man and the situation on the train. I think this film is worth watching.

This is absolutely brilliant.
Anonymous_Maxine7 March 2005
I'll Wait for the Next One sets itself up as a cute little comedy skit, and it delivers on that premise but also surprises you with an incredibly moving finale. Four minute comedies are not supposed to be as moving as this film is, it's funny, charming, and heartbreaking all at the same time, showing you your emotions in a combination that they are not generally found. I can't recommend this movie enough. By the end of the diminutive film you feel like you have known the characters for years, especially the lead man and the woman looking for love, probably because they so perfectly represent.

The look on the man's face and the woman's face at the end of the film are brief moments of sheer performing brilliance rarely seen, especially in a short film, which itself is rarely seen. Seek this one out, you will laugh and you will cry, and most of all you will be moved.

THIS is how a short movie should be!
madfoot-224 March 2003
Oh, this broke my heart! The filmmaker showed such skill as he told the story of the woman on the train with no words whatsoever. The actress was great. She just really brought to life her loneliness, from her buck teeth to her terrible scarf. She was just trying so hard. This was super-great. Except it was a bit devastating in the end...

Interesting film
pinefgsgsu24 December 2021
"I'll Wait For The Next One" is a French short comedy drama film. It was made in 2002. A woman walks to the station with a lonely expression. When she gets on the train, a man also gets on it to introduce himself and says that he is looking for love to passengers in a loud voice. The woman has a puzzled look at first, but she comes to be interested in what he says and sympathize with his view of love. It is a story with a surprise ending. The title implies that the women waits for her destiny and I think she is so bored in her daily life so that she wants to believe the one and fate. However, I suppose the man makes fun of the women who are looking for partners seriously and I don't think it is a funny joke. I sympathized with her in the film. Furthermore, I have empathic embarrassment to watch this film. I believe people who care what other people think much would feel this embarrassment. I think the film is worth watching because it gives the audience the lesson that there some things are too good to be true.

Importance of facial expression
b-6633421 February 2019
In this film, two people are the main characters. The story takes place in a train with the man's speech and the woman's reaction. The man looks suspicious at first, and other people laugh at his speech. In contrast, the woman takes it seriously. At this point, her facial expression shows her change of mind. In this film, she does not speak. Instead of that, her face is often focused on expressing how she thinks about the man's words. The angle of each character is interesting. While the man is speaking, the camera shoot not only the man but also other people as it shows that the man is speaking to everyone in the train. On the other hand, the woman is on screen only with her eyes straight at the man to show how serious she listens to him.

Excellent way to use short time
craftholic19992 March 2019
The whole scenes of this film is take place at the train. One man gathers the attention by other passengers because he give a speech with loud voice to search the female who can share his romantic ideas. Most of people are laghed by his romantic idea but one lonely woman is moved by his word. This is very good way to make the short film I think. In other words, the director of this film is good to use time. I can not believe that this short film takes only about 4 minutes. It was really impressed story to me. In addition, there are some words that I can not understand in the film but from the act of characters, I can understand the story easily. Many people would enjoy this short film. If you have a spare time, you should watch this short film and do not miss the last scene of the film.

Sad ending

Warning: Spoilers
In this short movie, there is a lady, who is not in romantic relationships for a while and looking for the one for her. The story is happening on a train in France. After she passes by the couple in the station, she gets on the train. Her face is not bright and seems hopeless. A man gets on the train at the last minute, and he starts talking about "love." He is looking for a woman to date, and talking about his life, his salary, what he values and so on. Another man on the train makes fun of the man, but he did not stop. The woman's face gets brighter as she listens to his story. The man says that "if you would like to date me, please get off at the next station." The woman gets off the train with a happy feeling, but the man tells her that it is a performance, maybe to get money. This movie gives a shocking ending, and I liked it. I can see how the woman's emotion changes even though she does not say any words. The plot is straightforward but unpredictable, so it is interesting.

Warning: Spoilers
A middle-aged woman is walking alone and feeling lonely. When she gets on a train, she meets a man who is seeking a girlfriend. I like the first part of this film, the woman walking alone and looking at a couple. It empathizes loneliness of the woman perfectly even though she does not say anything. Also, I'm impressed that this film clearly shows the woman is a protagonist of the movie although she did not have a dialogue while a man has a dialogue almost the entire film. But I guess most of us can sympathize with the woman's feeling over the man because we can see how she feels more than him by her reaction. I think the entire film is well done including the story, camera work, and casting. The audience will be surprised by the ending. I wonder whether it was the woman's fault or man's one. She might be responsible for herself sticking in the idea of love or becoming desperate for a boyfriend. She should have been more careful not to be grabbed a chance immediately. The man also might be responsible for what he has been done. He did not try to deceive her into believing what he says, but this is a good lesson that you should not do things so confusing when it comes to relationship things. Which they sympathize with is up to the audience, which makes the story interesting. Overall, I really enjoyed watching this film.

Love or Hate

Warning: Spoilers
Who has never been inside a subway or train coming back from a tiring day of work and wanting only to get some sleep but has been kept awaken by the noisy of someone doing something that requires the attention of all the "Mr and Ms" inside of it. In this movie we see how a simple case of this can really make the day of a person even worse. On a normal day a man inside the subway attracts the attention of everyone inside so that he could find any woman that still believe in love and was willing to give it a chance. A small and a little touching speech later we are sure that this story shall have a loving ending to renovate our faith in love. But, as we see it was not meant to happen as we thought and it leave us at the end with really hateful ideas about a continuation for this movie. As we say back in Brazil, "We desire to our enemies a long life so they can see our victory".

I'll Wait For The Next One

Warning: Spoilers
A woman envies the couple who she passes on the escalator at the station. Then she gets on the train. Suddenly a man begins to speak to the people on the train. At first, people think of his actions as performance, but he claims he's just looking for love. He says he has wealth, but he is tired of a lonely life so looks for someone who spends his life with him. Along the way, he discusses love with another man and finally tells the passengers to get off the train if you are interested. The woman sympathizes with his speech and goes off at the next station, but he doesn't do it. In the end, his speech was just a performance. When I saw this movie, I remembered that if people fall in love, they will not be able to make normal decisions. It was sad that she was lonely from the beginning of the movie to the end of the movie.

There is no culture of performing like this in my country, so when I first saw it, I was surprised that his behavior was a performance.

Unexpected Ending
rinopechi20 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
'I'll Wait for the Next One' was made in 2002. This is a film about the events of a few minutes in the Paris subway. When I first saw it, I did not like this film. There are two reasons. First, I felt that the woman's feelings are disrespected. I got emotionally attached to her, so I also felt like I was being ridiculed. Second, it is difficult to understand. I thought it was difficult to read the man's intention because making money on the train is a culture that does not exist in Japan and is not familiar to us. For the above reasons, I did not like the film at first. However, when I watched the film after understanding its content, I realized that the quality of the film was very high. The most amazing part is that the main character, the woman, has no lines at all. It begins with a scene in which a woman walking alone finds a happy man and woman. At this point, her expression indicates that she wants a partner. Moreover, the performance of the man who starts talking in the subway is so great that everyone watching the film is fooled by its ending. Thus, the film is distinguished by its structure and the actors' performances. There are so many fascinating aspects to this film. I found that with so much content that it was hard to believe it was only four minutes long. I think people should watch 'I'll Wait for the Next One.' more than two times.

Fateful moment in the train...?!
maoenjoyhappy23 July 2017
A lonely woman who greatly longs for true love meets a stranger at the metro in Paris. He asks single women in the metro who has the same way of thinking of love for getting off at the next station. Then…what becomes of her love, getting off or not?

Even though the film is about 4 minutes long, this leaves us emotion sympathized with her. Interestingly, the single lady is a main character, not the man who tries to attract the single women in the train. However, she mentions none of the words, which means her feelings are expressed visually. In particular, at the beginning of the film, she bears watching a couple on the escalator. This shows us that she seeks for love. The technique is highly respected.

The ending of this film is beyond expectation and makes audience feel to follow the story more.

Second-hand embarrassment served
Gospel9722 June 2018
A lonely woman goes on about her life until one day, the ride on her usual train takes an unexpected turn, changing her life in the mere span of a few minutes.

It's a well-crafted short, from start to finish. The actress does a magnificient job showing the sad, lonely side of the character, which makes the audience take a liking on her earlier in the short. There's humour in it too, and the cadence of the dialogue makes the audience follow the slow but steady flow of the plot.

The simplicity and familiarity of the setting (coming home from work, getting on the train to share your personal space with strangers for as long as the ride lasts) adds to showing how easily events in the short could happen in real life. How humans can be cruel without meaning to, and how they can also be very naive when hope is an option.

The naiveness of the woman, her hope to finally stop feeling lonely, is what gives this short that special touch.

What does she need?
holton122522 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This romantic comical short film J'attendrai le suivant was made in 2002, in France. One lady who is on the train meets a guy who is declaring loudly that he is looking for someone special. As she listens to him speaking she becomes really curious about him but something unexpected happens. Romance is something which suddenly jumps into someone's life and none of us can assume what happens next. From my perspective, this lady has been dreaming of a moment which can be a trigger to make her into someone. Therefore, she 'expects' that is the very moment that she has wanted but it turns out it isn't, which is totally an unexpected event for her. This world is full of unexpected things and sometimes they make us realise the real world is not as beautiful as we expect. This film lasts just 3 minutes, but for me, this is a reflection of our everyday life. Everyone is disappointed with something in their life but they have to live and expect something will happen again just like waiting for the next train on a platform. I suppose the filmmakers choose 'romance' to put the audience at ease and the punchline is so clever. You should go and watch this cool short film.

What is real and what only ends up as a joke
asselinbeelzebuthjr18 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This film is set on a subway in France. A single woman is travelling home, presumably after a long day's work. On the subway train, she encounters a man named Antonio, who claims to be 29 years old, single, giving a speech that he wants a partner. At the other end of the train, there is a man arguing against him, telling that it is nonsense. The woman, persuaded by Antonio, decides to leave at the next station, only to find out that it was all staged. Back in high school, I remember getting involved in a similar situation, where my best friend got into trouble, forcing him to leave class, but some students persuaded the teacher to bring him back. I also asked the teacher along with some "decoys", which was a quite embarrassing, but somehow memorable event. This passage might be portraying the gap between what is real and what only ends up as a joke, showing the outcome of how it ends up after taking these jokes seriously, as well as implying that "public" derived would not last long, both from the fact that the woman was tricked, and the action of "bystanders" arguing against Antonio.

A unique way of meeting someone
vxyytcsg12 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this short film and, despite its brevity, I felt it had a well-developed plot set in an unconventional location, namely the subway, where the story unfolds cohesively. The aspect that intrigued me the most was why they chose the subway as the setting for the encounter. In my opinion, if the man in the film is genuinely seeking a romantic connection, choosing the confined space of the subway seems unlikely. Therefore, I questioned the reason behind selecting the subway as the setting. My initial impression after watching the film was that I felt sorry for the woman. From there, I inferred that the film aims to highlight the fragility of human relationships in today's increasingly distant society, cautioning against easily trusting others. By using the subway, a place where human connections are often tenuous, the film effectively conveys the fragility it seeks to emphasize.

Good movie
b-203021 March 2019
At the middle of the movie, I was not able to understand what was going on, but as the movie went on I gradually got the point of the movie. Although it is only the man who is speaking on the train, I was able to guess what the woman in need of and the status of the woman from her facial expressions and behaviors. I think that the fact that woman does not speak even though she was tricked by the man makes this movie very interesting and as a result attracts the audience's attention. However, it must be very difficult to enjoy this movie if the woman's acting is not good. I learned that how the acting such as detailed facial expressions is important when you want to tell the feeling of a character without dialogue. I will pay attention to facial expressions and behaviors when I make a short movie next time.

Good Film
dunkirkafternoon11 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
J'attendrai le suivant...is a French short film directed by Philippe Orreindy. A lonely woman who is searching for true love is deceived by comedians.

One of the interesting points in the film is that the woman doesn't speak at all. We understand her emotion and situation only through her expression. From the first scene, in which she stares at a couple as though she is thinking of something very hard, we can guess that she leads a solitary life. Moreover, especially for the last scene, in which she is fooled by comedians, we are able to imagine a lot of things from her expression. She is devastated at first when comedians trick her. Then, however, her feelings change into anger and bitterness toward them. The film ends with this scene, but her emotion is still alive, and makes us think what she will do after that.

As in other films, facial expressions speak more in the film. I think that the film wouldn't be pregnant with meaning if she speaks. Overall, I believe that it is worth seeing.

Sad, but a good movie
yasumaru-3294812 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I like "I'll wait for the next one" as a movie. However, it makes me sad because I feel so sorry for the woman who is the main character of this movie. In this film, a woman who does not have a partner meets one man on the subway. He starts to talk about how he is a good person and wants a partner to love with a loud voice. The woman feels he is a funny and kind person and starts to like him. In the end, he says if anyone thinks he is good, please get off at the next station with him. She leaves the train when the train arrives at the next station, but the man does not get off. It is just his joke. She will wait for the next one (train and partner) just as the title suggests. I don't like this story because the man is too cruel. However, I think the act of the woman was very nice because I could feel her feelings from her expression without the dialogue.

I'll Wait for the Next One Review
Mr_Waffles1 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Review may contain spoilers. I'll Wait for the Next One is about a man putting himself out there while riding a train. The man seemingly is begging for a date and gets heckled, but continues to spout his ideas of love. The question throughout this film is will anyone accept the man's proposed date. The MC is actually a likely mid-30s woman listening to this display who has been unsuccessful in love. Everything the man says seems to invoke even more interest from the woman, who near the end of the film is all in on joining the man on his proposed idea. This welling up of feeling quickly gets dumped on its head and crushes the poor woman's soul. While not the best film out there, I'll Wait for the Next One is worth watching as its runtime is around 5 minutes and it can easily be found on YouTube.

Unexpected ending
naotabe29 November 2023
'I'll Wait for the Next One' is a romantic comedy short film. It was made in 2002. A woman looks lonely at the train station. She looks at a couple and she looks sad. When she gets on the train, a man speaks loudly alone. He says he is looking for a partner and introduces himself. The single woman sees that man and she is interested in him.

The main character woman has no dialogue, but I can understand the emotion by her expressions. I think every single woman expects this kind of extraordinary experience. This is why the woman is interested in the man on the train. The ending is also interesting. It is an unexpected ending and is related to the title. The title has two meanings. If you watch this short film, you can understand it. I recommend you to watch this short film. Especially, single women should watch this because you might be able to learn something from this.

Heartbreaking urban ennui
aci_J23 May 2018
Opening on the desolate scene of an escalator descending into the subway, this Oscar-nominated short film paints a bleak and heartbreaking picture of modern life. Our protagonist, a middle-aged woman, feels alone despite being surrounded by so many people on her journey. When a man suddenly speaks up on the subway, makes a speech about true love and his desire to find it, she finds herself enamoured and touched. She must make the choice to grab this rare chance with both hands, or risk continuing to feel isolated for the rest of her life. What happens next is powerful cinema, punctuating the piece's message about the irony of urban ennui with a dark, realistic turn. Despite it's short runtime, both it's conclusion and some great acting from the cast leave the viewer with burning questions that will haunt them forever.

Not feel good...
yuu-8241228 October 2023
'I'll wait for the next one...' (J'attendrai le suivant...) is a story about love. This movie was made in 2002. In this story, a woman gets sad when she passes a couple. With a sad expression, she gets on a subway train in Paris. There are many people on the train, who have different kinds of circumstances. Some are young couples, others are elderly couples. By looking at them, she gets deeply depressed because she is single.

Suddenly a man gets onto the train and gives a monologue to passengers around him including the woman. In his talk, he says that he is looking for a woman who can sympathize with his views on marriage. Also, he asks them to get off at the next station if they can be with him. Hearing that, the woman decides to do that. However, the man doesn't get off at the next station. I suppose this shows his lack of sincerity in dealing with the woman. In my opinion, I feel uncomfortable and think some viewers may regret watching this.
