This is the shorter of the two featurettes on the DVD of Jason X, dealing with the movie, and this is an actual making-of piece on it. With a running time of 16 and a half minute sans credits and one more with them, this consists of interviews with cast and crew, behind the scenes footage and clips of the picture(some used to ironic effect, others used to illustrate a point... note that this documentary does spoil the film itself). They go into how they were on a budget and what that meant for the approach, how they digitized the entire thing and could add FX to any frame with more ease than otherwise, the concept(and yes, they thought it was silly to begin with, too... just wait 'till you hear what else they were considering, and count your blessings), the different environments, the continuity, the comic book look to you-know-who(if you've seen it, and if not I won't give it away here) and how Cronenberg would only appear in this on the condition that they'd kill him off(!). This is interesting and informative, if some of what is said is *really* technical stuff that we don't get. I recommend this to any fan of the slasher flick meets sci-fi action itself. 7/10

Now admittedly I'm one of the select "few" it seems, sees the brilliance in this film. It was YOU the audience, they were having a go at - and it worked! Most everyone took the bait.."Crap Movie"..."Jason in Space?? no-way!" "laughable effects" and that gut-wrenchingly humorous spoofy ending?
IT WAS ALL MEANT TO BE LIKE THAT! Jeez you have only to look at the awesomely presented "virtual Camp Crystal Lake" sequence. This was over the top humor...beyond horror, beyond conventional criticism!
Those of you who HAVE the DVD, will find this "making of" on it....its worth the price of the CD on its own.

This little feature was made to promote the movie and is included on the DVD. It shows a real problem in filmmaking.
The actual movie was dumb, made for dummies. The dynamics behind how it was designed and to some extent executed is a matter of high sophistication. `Making of' films are intended to span these two worlds. But what to do here?
In reality, there is some very clever exploitation of scientific research into sexual archetypes and their visual representation. Cronenberg pioneered this work, and as a result has a cameo (as the guy who starts the chain of events). There's careful engineering of cheezyness in the effects. There's deliberate direction to act poorly, as part of the self-reference. But if your intended audience are dummies, do you mention any of this?
It would be as if after a MacDonald's ad, you were presented with details about how you were subliminally manipulated. Wouldn't work. So the crew made up a bunch of stuff to fill the space, saying nothing. The film is a carefully constructed fiction. So is this film about the film.

it's alright i guess

This was the second short documentary on the "Jason X" DVD. While the first one "The Many Lives of Jason Voorhees" was essentially a fluff piece, offering a supremely basic overview of the "Friday the 13th" franchise, this one focuses on the technical aspects of the film. The film's computer effects, costume design, and origins of the screenplay get air time. You'd think with all the work that went into this low-budget flick looking like it cost more money then it did, that the movie would be good. But you'd be wrong, i still hate the movie proper and only have it in my collection because I'm a completist. This documentary is all right I guess, not something to go out of your way for though.
