As Romantic Comedies go, SURPRISE is a bit more annoying than one would like from a movie in such a predictable and familiar genre. Its story is based on the old romantic comedy standby of mistaken identities, and while the ending is a bit surprising, the film itself up to that point is readily formulaic.
Romantic comedies need to have likable characters to keep from becoming an annoyance. As mentioned, SURPRISE is a minor annoyance, with the bulk of the annoyance coming from its tiresome characters. The female characters in particular need some rewrites, or at least to have the irritation factor toned down a bit.
