Impressed by the director's sensitivity in dealing with the subject matter and story line of his debut film " Taxi Bhaiya" (Taxi Brothers)which I saw at the Asian American Film Festival in New York, I have tried to follow on news about this young upcoming director. After the festival I had read items in New York Magazine and Avenue but nothing about a new film till I read about "Shutter" at the Avignon Film Festival. This time I was impressed by the diversity both in his choice of subject matter and style of Directing. "Shutter" is an intense mysterious film, dark in style, sort of David Lynch, Quentin Tarantino .....Jannu Goldschmidt is brilliant. My grievance is that the film was too short, but on second thought...that was the best way to handle this story line, short and intense and yet the audience can feel the many layers and read the nuances. Stefan Paternot the lead is gorgeous and intense in keeping with the theme. I enjoyed both films tremendously, while "Taxi Bhaiya" deals with reality handled with humor and sensitivity, in contrast " Shutter " is dark and mysterious. I'm looking forward to seeing the next Jannu Alain Goldschmidt film.
