1. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Suzumiya Haruhi, is an intelligent high school girl with a mischievous personality, and very egocentric disposition, and upon enrolment at school she announces:
“I have no interest in ordinary humans. If there are any aliens, beings from the future, or super-humans, come see me. That is all!”
Naturally, this did raise a few eyebrows, but Haruhi is dead serious. Things get awkward when everyone realises just how serious she is about it all and establishes the Sos Brigade. What makes her quite ominous though is her unimaginable power to actually change the world, but she is totally unaware of her own power and so she is also unaware of the affect of her power on the outside world. The cynical Kyon, a friend at the Sos Brigade, is among the few who knows of Haruhi’s power, and is desperately trying to keep the world together.

After the success of Fifty Shades of Grey – and with audiences having reached peak-porn – old-fashioned erotica is re-entering the movie mainstream. We find out why stars such as Jason Schwartzman, Keanu Reeves and Jack Black are chucking their keys into the bowl
“Everything comes in cycles,” says Eli Roth. But, for once, the godfather of torture porn is not talking about horror. After 2013’s The Green Inferno, a Werner Herzog-influenced cannibal thriller about eco-warriors trapped in the Amazon, Roth has taken a step out of his comfort zone. The result could be his most commercial film to date. Its star, Hollywood evergreen Keanu Reeves, might have something to do with that. But the real reason is that Knock Knock – a freewheeling homage to little-seen 1977 potboiler Death Game – is the first of a slew of sex-themed titles to follow in the wake of Fifty Shades of Grey.

A teaser trailer has been released for Keanu Reeves' and Eli Roth’s upcoming psychological thriller, Knock Knock. Roth directed the film, which tells the story of a happily married family man, played by Reeves, who is left alone for the weekend. Things take a turn for the worse when two beautiful girls show up at his house and start wreaking havoc.
The movie is a remake of a 1977 exploitation movie called Death Game. The movie is currently screening at the Sundance Film Festival, and I saw it recently. There will be a review up later today for you to read, but I will tell you right now that I didn't like it.

It’s The Walking Dead Season 2 Episode 4, entitled “Cherokee Rose,” brought to you by Cherikee Red, the cherry-flavored soft drink that still unbelievably exists in Pennsylvania and Ohio. We rejoin The Walking Team right after Shane’s much-talked-about turn for the a-hole (I literally had a water cooler installed at work so I could stand around it and talk to co-workers about the Shane thing last week), and the group is holding an honorary rock-pile funeral for Otis to exercise their grief. Otis’ girlfriend steps forward and tells Shane to say a few words about Otis, because that’s definitely what would happen: Shane’s like, “Otis gave himself up to save us all. And by ‘gave himself up’ I mean really, really intentionally. I mean, like, So intentionally. He signed and notarized an intent to give himself up form to clarify that he was doing it intentionally, and then he did it intentionally.

One of the benefits of flying overseas on an international airline, at least for a movie geek, is that the in-flight movies are recent movies from all over the world. This past holiday season, I visited family and was spoiled by Singapore Airline's in-flight entertainment system* with a bevy of new Asian films that I know won't be released in the United States for a while. Better yet, I had 22 hours each way to watch them. So I watched plenty. When you're already there and you write about film, why not write about it?
This is my own In-Flight Asian Film Festival, listed in the order of my preference. All movies are 2010 releases in their native countries, unless otherwise noted.

Comic prices have slowly been creeping up since the beginning of the year, first with a handful of $3.99 comics before, at least for the big two companies – Marvel and DC – $3.99 became the defacto price for new comics… And comic sales have fallen as steadily as the price has risen, with reportedly November biggest selling comic only hitting sales of 100,000.
Well now the comic companies have realised the error of their ways and are returning Some titles to the $2.99 price point, as Marvel so kindly pointed out in a press release today:
Because you asked for it, Marvel made it happen! Here is the first wave of fantastic new limited series at $2.99 per issue. The full Japanese trailer for Hideo Nakata's latest film, The Incite Mill (7 Day Death Game) has just hit online and we have every spooky second of it locked and ready to go!
The official The Incite Mill website opened its doors a while back, and other than it being home to some really loud and annoying flash animation (which seems to be all the rage these days in Japan), you'll also find (providing you have the patience) the original uber-dramatic trailer for the film as well. Mind you, the trailer shows pretty much nothing at all, but wow, is it rousing in a "Pay attention to me, damn it!" kind of way.
The pic, which is a based on an eponymous bestseller by Honobu Yonezawa, tells a "Big Brother"-ish tale of 10 people who hire on for a "job" paying $1,200 per hour, only to find themselves locked in an...

The film features a group of individuals who end up trapped in a house with a psychopath. The Incite Mill will open in Japan on October 16, 2010. The pic, which is a based on an eponymous bestseller by Honobu Yonezawa, tells a "Big Brother"-ish tale of 10 people who hire on for a "job" paying $1,200 per hour, only to find themselves locked in an underground complex and forced to play a murder game for seven days.

A new full trailer has been released for Hideo Nakata‘s new psychological thriller The Incite Mill: 7-Day Death Game. This is the first actual footage that’s been publicly released, as the original teaser was made up entirely of sequenced stills set to suspenseful music.
The script is based on a best-selling novel by Honobu Yonezawa. The story involves ten people who are lured to the mysterious “Anki Mansion” by help wanted ads offering 112,000 yen per hour (about $1,200 Usd). Participants are informed that they’ll be recorded 24 hours a day and are given two ominous rules: first, each of them must return to their private room by 10pm each night; and second, the experiment would continue either for 7 days or until there are only two survivors left. If all went according to plan, the participants would go home after 7 days, earning a total of 18 million yen. However, on the second day,...

Warner Bros. has launched an official website for Hideo Nakata‘s new psychological thriller The Incite Mill which includes a new teaser. Unfortunately, it’s made up entirely of dramatically sequenced stills and text. According to Jason Gray, the promo made for Cannes has actual scenes. If this year’s market is anything like the past few, I’m sure that version will be leaked to a video sharing site any day now.
The film’s Japanese subtitle translates to “7-Day Death Game” and the script is based on a best-selling novel by Honobu Yonezawa. The story involves ten people who are lured to the mysterious “Anki Mansion” by help wanted ads offering 112,000 yen per hour (about $1,200 Usd).
