Stargate-ish
smithdroid4 February 2021
The Bad: This series has almost nothing to do with Stargate. It's corny, stereotypical and campy. If you're wanting to expand your personal Stargate world you'll be disappointed. It seems like a show that already had all the creative decisions made and then they got the license to say the words "Stargate Command".

The Good: My kid loves it. There's action and a story in each episode. The animation and progession is slow and simple enough for him to follow. Now he pretends to travel by Stargate. This a show obviously not targeted at the movie/SG1/A audience. It's for kids and should be watched and rated as such.

The Totally Radical: The theme song. Tasty licks and riffs on the guitar throughout.

A pale, cheap, trite, oversimplied show that's Stargate in name only!
Asteri-Atypical8 June 2003
This oversimplified drivel doesn't deserve the name "Stargate" or to be in any way associated with the Stargate movie and TV series.

Yes, it's obviously for kids. But it lacks much of the imagination and creativity which can make it one of the show which parents are happy to watch with their kids. I've watched a number of kids' shows before and enjoyed them. "Stargate: Infininty" is not even close to being in that category.

If they wanted to create a new show based on the concept of traveling through gates across the galaxy, then so be it. But I hate the cheap ploy of cashing in on the Stargate namesake.

This IS NOT Stargate and doesn't deserve the name!

STOP IT STOP IT STOP IT!!!!!!!

So bad. So so bad. The point of the show is to be historically educational for the younger set. That written let me just say that they did a lousy job doing it. I'm seeing my first episode right now and every 2 minutes or so the leader of the "stargate" adventurers spouts some bit of historical trivia. It doesn't help to throw out facts. That's not educational. That's just fulfilling an fcc requirement. The show should be ashamed of itself.

To infinty and far beyond?

While I have younger siblings who find the SG-1 and atlantis shows intriguing, they are way below the age of the targeted demographic and therefore scared by many of the shows' occurrences. As such I thought to test the story lines of these animated versions for their consumption. I was grossly disappointed with the loss of integrity in the show's mythos as well as moral. Stargate has always been a good v evil battle, but the moral of the story was relatable to human emotions. This animated stuff is purely poorly written ani-crap that seems to have been produced for no other reason than to attempt to capitalize off the younger markets. My dear SG-I producers, you missed the point. The kids who were watching Sg-1 and A are smart kids. There's no need to dumb down a program due to general American demographic statistics. Keep the programs smart and you'll keep the people interested. The length of the Sg-1's seasons run should indicate that.

Is it just nostalgia?

I didn't think this series was so bad when I was a child but I guess I had different tastes back then. It is indeed quite blunt with the didacticism but I didn't mind. There was a lot of visual imagination and that's what enticed me.

Do it! Poke your eyes out with pencils - IT'S LESS PAINFUL!!!

This has to be the WORST cartoon spin-off in the HISTORY of TV/Cartoon tie-ins. Set years into the future from the original StarGate SG-1 series, this first episode opens with the lamest opening music since time began. The animation is cleared drawn by colour-blind monkeys with felt-tip pens placed between their toes.

For christ sake, what were you people thinking with this complete and utter waste of air-time.

The only time this will play in my house again is to punish my children.

Now He-Man, ReBoot and Thundercats are REAL cartoons.

Write that down!

Terrible

I didn't think that it could be quite as bad as it was. This is possibly the worst cartoon on television at the moment. Just because it's made for children isn't an excuse not to make it well.

This is quite simply a disservice to the Stargate name, and not suitable for children due to the extremely poor quality. We need decent childrens cartoons!

Garbage!

The moment I heard the theme music, I knew it was going to be bad, but I had no idea. The characters are/looks so stupid! They need to cut those cheesy Evangelion-looking suits and go back to fatigues. Thank goodness for Stargate SG-1.

Terrible, awful, insulting, and painful. Stargate Infinity is to Stargate SG1 as Galactica 1980 was to Battlestar Galactica. Infinity shows almost no resemblance, continuity or respect for SG1 at all. There were staff weapons, used by alien creatures that looked like recycled Thundercats mutants. The staff weapons and the other cheesy-plastic ray-gun looking-things seemed to have the ability to hit any life form with a weak stun blast (less effect than one zat gun shot), while also scorching metal walls black and cutting down stalactites easily. Reminds me of the dubbing of season 3 of Space Cruiser Yamato/Star Blazers, you could see lasers going right through people leaving burnt holes, but of course the lasers were stun beams and the people were androids. Or the "robotic" (yeah right) defense forces in Battle of the Planets. There was the token tough guy, token telepath, token alien, token shapeshifter etc etc. Add to all this, one-liner lessons of life such as "Sometimes you just gotta make a choice, go for it and deal with the consequences" made me grind my teeth and cower in horror. The theme song and music were both, um, I have no words for how awful they were. I suppose Infinity might appeal to someone whose IQ <= their shoe size, but I warn any SG1 fans out there, be afraid and run away from Infinity.

Embarrassment to the franchise
jgreene429 March 2006
The Stargate universe is so vast and interesting that a cartoon could have potentially been a good compliment to the live action shows, but this was just a miserable piece of junk.

They pretty much threw out all previously established canon from the movie and first 4-5 seasons of SG1, and created something that has no relevance whatsoever to the movie or TV show.

If I was a kid when I saw this I don't think I would have been any more impressed, and I would probably think "stargate sucks" because of it, and not give the real shows a chance.

I think what sums it up best is a quote from one of the characters as she looked upon a small amorphous blob of goo: "Do you think it could be one of the Ancients!?" What the hell were they thinking?

What the...?
The_Missus11 January 2003
When I read some reviews about how it appears to have no relation to SG:1, or even the film apart from having the gate I thought "Nah... It's Stargate! It can't be that bad!" But oh yes, it is. It's completely bizarre and I don't know WHAT the makers were thinking.

I'm sure that in it's own right it's an enjoyable show from a kids perspective, and when I get over the fact that it's so damn silly I might be able to enjoy it as mindless entertainment. Perhaps if I can catch the Pilot Episode It might make a little more sense, perhaps if it were set 50 into SG1's future, maybe more it'd be more believable?

Painful to watch, painful to listen to. Try reading books instead
marsodyssey201022 January 2006
Star Gate infinity reads like it was written by a 'Diversity society of American' focus group.

It has cast members from every social background a couple of different races, and a couple of different species. Every member has experienced racism, specialisms or childhood trauma and has come though it with a valuable moral lesson that they cannot resist imparting to the rest of the world. Making this one of the most preachy cartoons of the 90s.

Of course, because it's a an American children's cartoon , they can't actually tackle 'real' issues in any meaningful way. So, no messages on divorce, death (unless its a pet or a 2000 year old grandfather), sexuality, dating, US foreign policy, or why prescription drugs cover on medi care is essential for the working poor.

Most episodes involve the cast jetting around the cosmos in supped up dune buggies righting wrongs and solving injustice which, while an admirable thing to do in itself, is spoiled by the fact that they do it by converting aliens to 'the American way of life'.

Don't get me wrong, children can learn valuable lessons from this show, like not judging people by their skin color, or labeling people based on social prejudices, but anybody with even the smallest tendency towards cynicism will get fed up with the constant 'diversity is good' message, and anybody whose blood boils when they hear the phrases "what's good for America is good for the world" will feel like throwing a brick through the TV after about five minutes.

Otherwise, it's pretty average for an American cartoon in terms of plot variety, voice talent and quality of animation.

Contains mild peril, fantasy firearms, and socially difficult situations like bullying and racism, but no nudity, bad language, or real violence.

Stargate: Infinity = Agony
xenokitchen31 July 2003
This show is crap. I have only seen 2 episodes. This show should be considered a criminal offense. The humor is humorless, the plots are full of plot holes, and the lessons they teach you are stupid. And the characters are bad. There is on character, I am pretty sure he does not have a name, is the comedy relief. This is proved in the following episode: they end up on some planet where the only food is moss. The comedy relief complains the entire time that the food is moss. Then, the aliens on the planet give him ice cream at the very end of the episode, and , get ready to be surprised, it tastes like moss! Hahaha! In case you can't tell, I hate this show. This show is obviously aimed at little kids, which is why they teach you lessons like "it is important to learn history" and "the in crowd may not be very nice." But the show also has guns and explosions and things like that. Kids should not be watching shows that try to teach you life lesons and also show guns. This might give kids the ideas that guns are good. Because their favorite characters use them. Although I cannot imagine how any one would like these characters.

Not as bad as you look

After watching some of the pilot episode, I too thought this was a travesty to the SG-1 namesake. But I checked back 10 episodes later, and found it a nice diversion while the Sci-Fi channel has the real show on hiatus. You have to expect them to dumb down the plots for younger kids, and the animation can only improve with time. The art reminds me of Batman Beyond. So, please give it some time, and try it again this summer in re-runs when there's nothing else on.

If the Go'uld ever knew we made this cartoon they would never attack this planet. My god these series is painful and I can not believe how utterly cheesy this thing is. I know its pointless to ask by why in the opening credits do they keep using the sound for a Zat while showing us the wormhole???!!!

GREAT SHOW!!!!
wolfmano30 January 2003
This show is so cool, it shows you what will happen to the SGC in the future, because according to the producers of "Stargate Sg-1" the show's two storylines will start to converge as Sg-1 starts it's new episodes on the SciFi channel. The show revolves around Air force Major Gus Bonner and his team of SGC trainees among which are Harrison a brash cadet with a penchant for flying, and Pahk'kal an alien-human hybrid. Major Bonner is fraimed for treason and the team must escape through the stargate and find evidence that will help clear Gus' name, along the way they rescue Draga whom they believe is and "anchient" one of the race of beings who created the Stargate, this show is very entertaining and conveys a message such as helping the environment and not judging people by their appearence. Keep up the good work this is a GREAT SHOW!!!!!!!
