It’s an interesting month ahead on Hulu, as the streamer rolls out some of the series it’s been keeping in its back pocket for the holiday season.
On December 15, the first season of Such Brave Girls will arrive. The sitcom follows a dysfunctional family – and we mean dysfunctional! – that includes real-life sisters Kat Sadler and Lizzie Davidson. British comedian Sadler has previously written for The News Quiz, Hypothetical, and Mel Giedroyc: Unforgivable, but this is her first big TV project. “Everything we joke about in the show is from a place of lived experience,” she told Funny Women. “I wish I could say this is a heart-warming show about overcoming trauma, but that would be a lie. It’s about three toxic, damaged egomaniacs manipulating the world and each other for their own personal gain, vengeance and glory…just like in Little Women.” Sounds good!

Spoiler ALERTt: The story includes details about the series finale of Jane the Virgin on the CW.
After five seasons and 100 episodes, the CW’s Jane the Virgin ended its journey tonight. It has been an important show for the CW and for television — Jane gave the CW its first major award recognition when star Gina Rodriguez won a Golden Globe; it has been a rare series to feature a main character speaking exclusively a foreign language with the Spanish-speaking Alba; and it defied convention by experimenting with styles, including magical realism.
True to its telenovela roots (Jane the Virgin was loosely based on the Venezuelan telenovela Juana La Virgen), the dramedy wrapped its story with a happy ending as Jane and Raphael finally tied the knot, Petra and Jr reconciled, Esteban proposed to Darci and Rogelio’s dream of becoming a crossover star came true.

Last night, The CW, took a shot by straining away from its usual hit supernatural shows and premiered their new dramedy Jane the Virgin. Jane the Virgin is a lose American adaptation of the hit Venezuelan telenovela Juana la Virgen, created by Perla Farías. The CW’s take on the telenovela does stick to the Spanish-speaking roots by incorporating a character named Alba, who is Jane’s Spanish-only speaking grandmother. While some think the show won’t last against The CW’s hits The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, Jane the Virgin is easily relatable to everyone. Personally, I can relate to the fact … Continue reading →

The CW is working on an American version of the popular Venezuelan telenovela Juana la Virgen, Deadline reports. Emily Owens MD creator Jennie Snyder Urman is adapting the series, currently called Jane the Virgin. The original show is about a 17-year-old girl, Juana, an aspiring photographer, who becomes pregnant when she's accidentally artificially inseminated owing to hospital error. (Juana is a virgin at the time, though one imagines any instance of accidental insemination would be calamitous, no?) Come for the appalling medical errors, stay for a baby daddy, his jealous wife, a gym-teacher mom, a shady businessman, a magazine, and lots and lots of scheming.
