A complete surprise
hmsgroop18 October 2002
At first glance the film resembles an idiot's tale told with little sense, but soon you begin to see a new profound sense in what is going on on the screen.

he plot is absurd: two colleagues go to fetch the body of their co-worker from a neighbouring town where that man died unexpectedly. As this person has no kin, the director of the factory chooses to send Markerants (S. Garmash) and Mityagin (M.Porechenkov) to deal with the whole business. And here the adventures begin. They eventually lose their money and the corpse of their late friend. (As they have no money, they cannot buy a place in a freight train and have to pretend that the dead man is just very drunk). Quite by accident they place the body of their friend in one and the same compartment with a mafia courier carrying a case full of gold. Both the case and the body disappear and mafia starts looking for the two unfortunate friends. And so on, and so on... If the film is a comedy, even a black comedy, it violates the laws of the genre, being more profound and philosophical than plain laugh-in.

What I was thinking of at the end of the film is: life is full of surprises and we can never know what will come of our most innocent actions.
