Inventive rom-com vignettes
lor_5 August 2022
An unusual Vivid Video release, "Conflict" from director Ren Savant (=Tom Elliot) presents five individual vignettes based on what might be referred to as "angry-sex": a couple in conflict where temporary anger turns into lust. Instead of a gimmick, this starting point is used to create highly entertaining sex scenes with an edge.

There are no Vivid contract girls in this feature, but solid femme talent in starring roles. Lori Michaels is featured in two segments that bookend the movie. First one is a superb example of that rom-com staple of "meet-cute". She's driving down the highway on the phone with her boyfriend Larry (Steve Taylor, who doesn't show up on screen until the final vignette).

She's angry on the phone, when a guy driving a van (Paul Morgan) cuts her off, and they chase each other in a well-directed action scene. A verbal battle erupts when they finally get out of their cars off the highway, and she questions his manhood. Soon they're humping away like rabbits in the back of his van.

An elaborate meet-cute hooks up Mike Horner with Regan Starr (a blonde journeyman porn actress who is a lookalike for Streep's daughter Mamie Gummer). They're both at ticket windows trying to snag a couple of seats to the same rock concert, but it's sold out. A pair of very expensive tickets becomes available, and through a computer glitch each one ends up buying just a single ticket by credit card.

They get quite angry at each other in trying to acquire the other ticket, each needing it for a hot date, but their argument ends up in a sex scene in the back of his car. Another lesson from director Elliot on how to set up an interesting little situation as prelude to sex.

An amusing scene is set in a grocery store, where Inari Vachs and Alexandra Silk get into a fight in the checkout line. They start tearing off each other's clothes and end up having lesbian sex right in front of a bunch of voyeuristic customers. This is a terrific depiction of sex in public, almost believable for a change.

Movie also includes two strong threesomes: Lori Michaels returning with boyfriend Steve Taylor having sex with her roommate Dave Hardman, and a very effective 3-way in a beauty parlor featuring hapless Wilde Oscar juggling his two angry fiancees Ava Vincent and Tracy Love.
