This year, the Emmy nominees for outstanding hosted nonfiction series include Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy (2021 and 2022’s winner) and Taste the Nation With Padma Lakshmi. It’s fair to say these food travelogues owe their entrée into awards contention to Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown, which dominated the category in the 2010s and brought credibility to food programming in a field that had previously overlooked it.

CNN’s Parts Unknown, which won 12 Primetime Emmys over 12 seasons — including six for outstanding informational series (as the category was known from 2013 to 2019) — was Bourdain’s fourth series following A Cook’s Tour and Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations on the Travel Channel, and Food Network’s The Layover. July brings new channels to Pluto TV, including the Godzilla Channel, which features 30 films, such as “Godzilla Vs. King Chidorah” and “Godzilla vs. Biollante,” as well as the 1998-2000 animated adventure “Godzilla: The Series.” The Hollywood Squares Channel is also debuting. July continues the streamer’s Summer Popcorn Movies with the “Mission Impossible” franchise starring Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt, an agent of the Impossible Missions Force (Imf). Cruise has played the super-fit spy since 1996, as well as produced the series. The seventh iteration, “Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part 1,” has a theatrical release date of July 12.

After launching just one month ago, Sling Freestream is continuing to add more and more channels to keep cord-cutters entertained, whether they subscribe to Sling TV or not. The latest additions to the free ad-supported streaming TV (Fast) platform come from Cinedigm. On Thursday, the company announced a deal to bring AsianCrush, The Country Network, and Midnight Pulp to the service.

The channels are three of Cinedigm’s top-performing offerings and expand the company’s partnership with Sling to now include more than a dozen channels. AsianCrush provides some of the best of pan-Asian entertainment in streaming, The Country Network gives fans an intimate look at country music’s biggest superstars, and Midnight Pulp is an expertly curated selection of some of the most exciting cult and genre films available today.

Sling TV, the internet-streaming division of Dish Network, is doubling down on free, ad-supported streaming television (Fast) and free, ad-supported VOD — looking to beef up its offering for consumers who balk at paying a monthly subscription fee.

The redubbed Sling Freestream is launching with 210 free channels and 41,000-plus on-demand titles. It’s a rebranding — and expansion— of Sling Free, which has been its free, live TV streaming service with some 150 channels and AVOD selections. In addition, Sling Freestream users can subscribe to more than 50 standalone streaming services, including AMC+, Discovery+, MGM+ and Paramount’s Showtime.

With Freestream, Sling is trying to lower the barrier to entry even further, by eliminating the requirement that users create an account to be able to start streaming free content. And by the end of this spring, Sling Freestream is on track to offer more than 400 channels, said Gary Schanman, group president of Sling TV.

Dish’s Sling TV on Thursday launched a new free advertising-supported streaming television (Fast) service dubbed Sling Freestream.

Kicking off with 210+ free channels and 41,000+ on-demand titles, it will also allow consumers to upgrade to premium pay TV with one click, with Dish touting that it was pioneering “unparalleled flexibility between paid and Fast TV.”

The company previously provided Sling Free, a free, live TV streaming service with around 150 channels and selective advertising VOD offerings.

Unveiled on Sling’s eighth anniversary and “National Cut the Cord Day,” Freestream is available through the Sling app on Roku devices and is also being rolled out across LG, Samsung, Vizio and other devices, “providing customers a no-barrier entry point to high-quality programming without any payment or credit card required,” the company said.

The author of “Kitchen Confidential” and “A Cook’s Tour,” in addition to the TV host of “Parts Unknown,” had a large and fanatic audience. This film follows his career, from marginal restaurant chef to mega superstar foodie and globe trotter. And as that fame grew, so did his anxiety about purpose, which fueled his suicide in 2018.

That’s the question that anyone who’s ever been touched by the hungry, life-force spirit of Anthony Bourdain will have at the top of his or her head going into “Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain.” Directed by the award-winning Morgan Neville, the documentary, which premiered tonight at the Tribeca Festival, is an intimate and fascinating portrait of the beloved celebrity chef and television globe-trotter.
