After the Huntingtons disobey Baron Alwyn's orders, their castle is burned to the ground. Young Robert Huntington, the future Robin Hood, flees the lotus flower of flames, and together with his friend Will and his sisters, Winifred and Barbara, takes refuge in Sherwood Forest. In the forest they have two important encounters.

Robin decides to return home to find out what happened after Baron Alwyn burned his father's castle to the ground. He is spotted by Gilbert, a young knight of the "Black Rose" who wants to avenge his defeat for an earlier fight with Robin that left him with a scarred face. A second fight ensues.

While Robin and his friends comb the forest looking for a place to call home, back in Nottingham, Baron Alwyn organizes a manhunt to capture Robin. The Baron's soldiers search every corner of the forest with dogs until they come across Marian of the House of Lancaster, who has left her friends and is returning to her castle.

Baron Alwyn is more and more determined to wipe out the band of outlaws and, above all, Robin. He discovers that Marian has joined the outlaws and orders three ruthless soldiers of fortune, commanded by Gay of Ghisborne, to destroy the band of brigands and kidnap Marian. Robin, Will, Winifred and Barbara are captured by the soldiers who seem implacable, that is until they reveal their weak spot.

Robin and Will search the forest not only for the gold crucifix that Marian was wearing around her neck on the day her carriage was held up by Little John's band of thieves, but also for some food to ease their shortage of supplies. They then run into Little John and his men, pulling a war cart and carrying a catapult with which he is about to use in an attack against a supply train.

Baron Alwyn forces Gilbert to kidnap Marian so that he can get his hands on her gold crucifix that is said to contain a priceless secret. However, the crucifix was lost by Marian when she fainted during the attack on her carriage. It is later found by Much, only to be then confiscated by Little John who, in turn, gives it to his new love, Winifred. Gilbert mistakes Winifred for Marian.

Robin and Will set out for Nottingham to rescue Marian and Winifred. Along the way, they run into Little John and Much who join the expedition with their war cart, and together, they set out to battle with the enemy. However, much to their dismay, Baron Alwyn has a surprise up his sleeve: a "fire-breathing dragon," which he uses to force our heroes into retreat.

Robin and Little John have a falling out over their mode of attack on the supply trains passing through Sherwood Forest, and so decide to go their separate ways in their attempt to free Marian and Winifred. After a close encounter with the Baron's guards, Robin and Will then meet up with Ed and Chris, two youths who turn out to be very useful in their cause.

In spite of Robin and Little John's continual disagreements, Will persuades them to join forces again in another attempt to free Marian and Winifred. They enter the castle and find out where Marian and Winifred are being held, only the Baron has another nasty trick up his sleeve. Robin sees a woman about to be put to death on the ramparts and thinks it's Marian.

After their attempt to save Winifred and Marian fails, Robin and his companions hide from the Baron's soldiers, who hunt them relentlessly. While they remain bottled up in the village where they have found refuge, Much confesses that he is head over heels in love with Marian. They then discover Marian is about to be adopted by the Bishop of Herfort.

Robin and Little John have an idea to free Marian and Winifred. The four companions disguise themselves, take the place of the four girls that the village is obliged to offer to the Bishop of Herfort, and proceed to enter the Baron's castle without being found out. In the meantime, Marian is sure that Robin is dead and considers committing suicide, and Gilbert discovers Marian is hiding a dagger.

Everything seems lost as Marian stands before the Bishop who is about to begin the adoption ceremony. In desperation, Marian takes out the dagger she has been hiding and is about to use it to kill herself when, miraculously, Robin appears. Little John frees the prisoners in the castle dungeons and then races to his friends' rescue. The daring operation is successful.

Barbara thinks her friends are ignoring her, so she storms out of the house and runs away into the forest. However, she could not have chosen a worse moment, because, still smarting from his recent defeat, Baron Alwyn has set traps throughout Sherwood Forest. Robin and his friends set out to look for Barbara and luckily the wayward girl's pet wolf cub helps them.

Unexpectedly, Robin is reunited with White Sander, the horse his parents gave him years ago as a present, and which he has not seen since the day of the accident when his parent's carriage fell into a ravine. The animal's odd behaviour seems to be conditioned by circumstances linked to the accident and Robin realizes that it hadn't been an accident at all, that his parents were killed in a trap.

Gilbert is sentenced to death because he failed to carry out the Baron's orders. However, he escapes from prison, flees to Sherwood Forest where he finds his beloved Marian and kidnaps her, leaving Robin and his companions aghast. Gilbert is determined to keep Marian with him at all costs and prepares for a no holds barred duel with Robin who has tracked him down.

The Bishop of Herfort orders his men to leave a cart full of supplies in Sherwood Forest. Little John and his men discover the cart. Robin and Will refuse to touch a crumb of the unexpected delicacies, but Little John, Much, and the other men eat to their heart's content until they suffer from terrible pains caused by food poisoning.

Wohall is a strong, courageous knight who seeks justice now that he has tracked down Robin Hood, the "Traitor". Robin declares his own innocence, but Wohall won't listen, and orders him to stand and fight in a duel to the death. The duel begins, and almost immediately, Robin is disarmed. However, instead of trying to escape, Robin stands there defying Wohall to run him through with his lance.

In the forest, Robin and his friends come across Eric and Morse, who say they are "charcoal burners" in search of the right wood for their trade. The meeting takes place under the most auspicious circumstances, because Eric and Morse prove to be excellent company, and are immediately made to feel right at home by our heroes. However, during their short stay in the forest, strange things happen.

Marian's hatred for Baron Alwyn is so strong that she is determined to get her revenge by killing him. Robin knows Marian is following her instinct, but he does not agree with her. He is against violence, unless absolutely necessary, and so when the Baron is at his mercy begging him to spare his life, Robin refuses to deliver the coup de grace.

Baron Alwyn's evil doings know no limits; on this occasion he hires a man who owns a lion hoping that it will kill the outlaws in Sherwood Forest. Before long, our heroes encounter the savage beast, and Barbara is the first to come across it. Instead of being afraid, she treats it like a big pussy cat, and soon has it eating out of her hand.

Baron Alwyn takes advantage of the weak and defenseless to fill his coffers with gold. On this occasion, he tries to force the Dickson family to sell him their land. Robin and his friends come to their rescue, building defense works around the Dickson farm, and setting traps for the Baron's soldiers. Baron Alwyn leads the attack personally, backed up by an awesome war machine.

Gilbert's sister, Cleo, goes to Baron Alwyn in Nottingham to find out why her brother died. The Baron lies, telling her that Robin is the only one to blame. Consumed by hatred, Cleo tries in every way possible to meet the man she thinks murdered her brother. Robin had fallen in love with Cleo when they first met, and is delighted to see her again, but she returns his joy with a dagger.

Obviously Baron Alwyn's evil intentions never wane, once again he commissions the "Knights of the Black Rose" to hunt down Robin and his friends and eliminate them once and for all. While the Baron draws up his plan, Robin, Little John, and the others prepare to attack a customs post that the baron uses to levy heavy tolls on the local people who pass that neck of the woods.

Marian's hatred for Baron Alwyn has become an obsession. According to Friar Tuck, Marian has lost control, and could even lose her mind because her negative thoughts are becoming more prevalent than her positive ones. As far as Tuck is concerned, Robin is the only person who can bring the girl back to her senses.

In order to pay for his ambitious plans to gain greater power, Baron Alwyn raises taxes to such an extent that people are forced to live in misery. A young mother, who can no longer afford to feed her baby, abandons it in Sherwood Forest. Little John comes across the baby, thinks it's a boy and takes it home.

Friar Tuck is a flying enthusiast, and tells our heroes that according to legend, a flying ship exists on the highest mountain in the region. However, he warns them that the mountain is full of hidden dangers, and that it would be unwise to explore it; however, as so often happens, those who receive good advice tend to ignore it.
