Great Game!!!!
potteriffic5 April 2004
I really like this Video game, I've got it on Game Boy Color and Advance, PS1, PC and PS2, they are all brilliant. I like the PS2 Version Best, It's one of my favourite EA Games, it was better than the Quidditch World Cup, but not as good as the First game on PS2 (that came out after game 2). The PC Version is good too, better than the first game, the PS1 version is sort of the same as the first game, not as goo as PS2 though, however better, the Game Boy Colour version was good, but the first game was more challenging, this moved a lot smoother. And the game boy advance Version, better than the first game but easier. You must buy this game for PS2, I cant wait for the third game, only 59 days to wait.

a good game but too easy

Warning: Spoilers
now, let me tell some good points about this game on the ps2:

1) Graphics are very good, crisp and wonderful. 2) Gameplay is easy. Loads of thing to do like de gnoming, collecting cards and beans etc 3) Game has smooth control over the character while moving, playing quid-ditch, casting spells etc. 4) There is even more to do after fighting the basilisk in the end like collecting various items to increase house points and win the house cup 5) It is a nice thing EA games has done to make the game based on the book and not the movie. The PC game of it doesn't contain many of the things that are there in the ps2 game like learning to degnome and cast spells with Fred and George, collecting items in the diagon alley, collecting house points to win the house cup after slaying the basilisk, roaming around at night and visiting Fred and George's shop avoiding all the prefects, rescuing the trapped Neville from behind the tapestry,going to the restricted section of the library to bring the book regarding the chambers, splashing dung bomb like things and letting off balloons to distract the prefects, etc.

Now the bad things about the game:

1) Game is too short. i completed it in 5 days playing for almost and hour in a day. 2) The spell challenges are too short. Each challenge takes about a 10 minutes or so to complete. 3) There are no obstacles in the chambers and hence it is dreadfully easy to and speedy to finish off the basilisk 4) The loading times take almost half the time of the game play. Even when you enter or exit some rooms, there are loading times. 5) It isn't that addictive compared to the PC game. In the middle i literally stopped playing it as i got a bit bugged. 6) There is no herbology class in the game. it is fun to learn and defeat many poisonous plants. 7) You will have to get the spell book and find your way out of the challenge. So the new spell you have learned isn't of that much use. Instead it should have been that you have already learned the spell and then you complete the challenges.

Overall I liked this game but i request EA games to improve upon the flaws in the next game.

It's OK

Warning: Spoilers
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was an alright game I guess. You play as Harry and explore the wizarding school of Hogwarts, learning spells, fighting monsters, collecting stuff and more. I didn't think it was a bad game, however there was some stuff in the game I didn't like including that it wasn't much like the movie.

This game was pretty much made for kids, fans of Harry Potter, and people who aren't that good at games. At the beginning of the game you start off at the Burrow with the red head Weasley boys who I found quite annoying, especially Ron. While there, you throw gnomes around, face your first boss, and then go to Diagon Alley to do some stuff the next day. Like I just said, this game is for kids, fans, and people who suck at games. If you're a hardcore gamer, I would NOT recommend this for you because you may feel like you wasted your money after finishing it in half a day.

When you get to Hogwarts, this is where you'll be the rest of the game, besides the journeys into the Dark Forest. Even though on the inside the castle wasn't much like the one in the movie at all, I still found exploring it quite fun. There's secret passages and stuff to collect all around the school. The currency in the game is Bertie Botts Beans which you can use to buy stuff and trade with the annoying red haired twins Fred and George. Also, you collect Wizard cards, which you can find around the school, or sometimes they are rewards for doing stuff.

Now for the story, as I said before, its not much like the movie at all, I've never read the book but I'd say it's probably more like that. During the day, you attend class and do all stuff to do with school. When you walk into class you to do a challenge course to get a new spell. When you learn the spell, you have to use it to get out of there, when you complete the course it feels like you kinda achieved something. But then you see everybody else in class and wonder "Hang on, why did I have to go through this dangerous course that could've killed me and everyone else just learnt it in class like students are supposed to". Well, maybe it's all just because you're Harry Potter and you're better than everybody else. You also do Quittich which can be kind of fun. You fly along a trail of rings and eventually catch the snitch, if the enemy seeker gets it before you do there are no second chances so try your hardest or don't bother it doesn't really affect the rest of the game anyway besides house points.

Most of the stuff to do with the actual story happens during the night. Ron or Hermione will get you to go and do something in the school like looking for important stuff or i don't know something to do with the story. The night time levels can be sometimes harder because night time is when the ghosts, monsters and annoying prefects lurk the school. You would usually find yourself in a restricted area trying to avoid being seen. These were the levels of the game I found the hardest, if you get caught its back to the beginning.

This game was obviously aimed at a younger audience seeing as there is not much violence like in the movie, the characters are all cartoony and annoying, and the game is easy (like i've said a hundred times). Because of this some levels in the game ended up disappointing and boring. For example, the boss battle with the basilisk. In the movie, Harry picked up the sword, climbed up on the head of the statue and shoved the sword through the basilisks brain. The game was nothing like this. Harry picks up the sword, the basilisk stands off in the distance and spits poison at you, Harry points the sword in the direction of the basilisk and this weird white beam comes out and goes on the Basilisks face and the Basilisk is somehow hurt by this, after doing this a few times the basilisk finally dies. In my opinion, this was one of the lamest ways to defeat a boss i've ever seen. I understand they were trying to make it less violent for kids, but this I thought was terrible. It's like the developers were in a hurry to finish the game in time so they decided to not think about it and rush the last level.

Overall, like I said at the beginning, I didn't think this game was bad, exploring the school is fun, there's other stuff for you to do when you finish the story. Like I said, for kids, Potter fans, and people new to games, people who are good at games like me would finish it too quickly. The disappointment was that it wasn't much like the movie at all besides the basic storyline and some of the characters were a bit too babyish and annoying. Anyway, cheers i'm out.

I have opened it
leplatypus31 March 2010
It looks like very much the first game but with the awaited upgrading in gameplay. Thus it is a real pleasure: the cut-scenes are excellent to give the pace and the mood to the story. If the levels are maybe too long for saving or a bit repetitive, however the suspense is here and you can live the big moments of the book: the meeting with the spider king, the discovery of the chamber of secrets. I don't understand why suddenly the game becomes difficult and you got to be patient and courageous to beat the famous basilik. In fact, in the first stage, you got to move right / left and attacks the basilik when it bows its head. The second stage is more difficult but you got to choose a location and from there, point the basilik head level before it appears and keep attacking. As it moves right /left, you can guess its next apparition. But I won over this big boss and it was really a big fight! A final tip: use the cheat to diminish the impact of any blows because you will need it! So far the best game of the series and a great video game as well!

Best HP Game on the market so far!
CanadaChick9 November 2002
The new Harry Potter game, complimenting the book and movie The Chamber of Secrets is fantastic. The graphics are beautiful and true to the concepts of the books. Game play is exciting and entertaining and includes many fun aspects of the Harry Potter story, including de-gnoming, broom flying and spell casting.

Our whole family enjoyed both playing and watching each other play this game. It feels like a Harry Potter book brought to life!

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (PlayStation 2) Review
jamesmazzarisi-6475225 June 2023
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets for the PlayStation 2 is my favorite game on that console, as well as my favorite video game of all time. I don't know if this is the very first video I've ever played, but it's definitely up there and I'm glad I grew with it. Since childhood, I've played this game nonstop, going through the story, collecting all of the collectibles, avoiding/killing enemies that stand in my way, and discovering new things over the years. As a massive Harry Potter fan, I'm so happy this video game is in my life and will continue to play it so many more times, that being until I'm dead.

It's for the kids
tributarystu19 December 2002
This HP game shows signs of improvement if we compare it with the first one...sadly, it is nothing really interesting for hardcore gamers. It's certainly just for kids, but if you want to see the world of HP, this is the game in which you can. The graphics are very attractive, and Hogwarts as well as Hogwarts grounds look splendid. The changes could be called significant, compared to the first game. Beside the better graphics, there are more game play changes:

1) Wizard Cards-more...and in 3 categories: bronze, silver, gold...haven't found all yet;

2) Lessons - each new spell is learned with the help of your keypad...The course for each lesson has an amount of time, and it depends on how much time you have at the end, how many points you get for Gryffindor;

3) Duels - Nice little thingies, where you can use 3 spells...it's a real good way to earn beans, which are of much more use than in HP 1;

4) Quidditch - there's a new controlling system here...I think it's far easier than the first. There are also more games, so you do have enough to play;

The thing that disappointed me most was the battle against the basilisk, which is quite not as I expected it. The end scene looks groovy though. I'd say the game's worth a look if you're passing through a boring period, or if you just want to see the world of Harry Potter once again.
