A rare one-off from Steve Drake, a former adult film actor who started his career way back in the mid-'80s in movies like Jerome Bronson's ANGELS OF PASSION and delivered what was perhaps his finest thespian achievement in Paul Thomas' intelligent ANONYMOUS opposite the inimitable Ashlyn Gere, who as a director tends to focus on frequently long-running series with little pretense of plot like SEX OFFENDERS or the BUTT SISTERS features. For LINGERIE PARTY, he has tackled one of porndom's most worn-out scenarios yet infused it with superior production values (glossy photography, intricate editing and an original song-packed soundtrack to boot) and plenty of raw sexual energy by pairing the right performers.
Not quite naturally busty Sana Fey, who made quite an impression in Jonathan Morgan's insanely entertaining DOUBLE FEATURE !, gets things off to a roaring start in a blistering bedroom bit with Mark Davis before we get to the story proper. She runs a sexy lingerie and toy company for which she is next seen "auditioning" down on their luck roommates Taylor St. Clair, a former Surrender Cinema sexploitation starlet taking the hardcore plunge, and amateur performer Brooke adding a rare "professional" credit to her fly by night résumé. This Sapphic roundelay turns out to be St. Clair's single sex scene as this was one of her first explicit endeavors and she was still a long way from the animal abandon she would exhibit in John Stagliano's awesome FASHIONISTAS.
The girls show off their frilly wares for a small group of friends who then team up with their spouses no prizes for guessing which segment of the adult video audience this flick was aimed at for a good dose of connubial bliss. The good news is that the ensuing sex actually has some terrific chemistry going for it. Bottle-blonde Torri takes on a tired-looking but still pretty studly Nick East while exotic Kasorn Swan tussles romantically with hunky black guy Mark Anthony, a performer usually relegated to the specialized Afro-American features. Brooke doesn't let the side down in a comparatively nasty romp with Fey's slimy associate Tony Tedeschi who demands physical favors in exchange for further assignments. Rather than let this attempted blackmail sour their spirit, the girls get their own back in a clever twist ending I'll allow you to find out for yourselves.
While not a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination, LINGERIE PARTY delivers exactly what its title promises and then some. The ladies all look mighty fine in their lacy undies with glamorous make-up and good lighting adding to their overall "wow factor".
