If you love Christmas videos, you'll love this!
TheLittleSongbird6 May 2009
This is a sweet and charming video of Christmas, that is special, because I absolutely love Christmas. The narration is from Jiminy Cricket himself, and he actually does sound like the voice actor in the Pinocchio movie. Most of the film(only 50 minutes) is told in vignettes, but all of them are gems so that doesn't matter, because A Disney Christmas Gift was exactly the same. I'm not hugely keen on the Goofy vignette, but I loved the one with Donald Duck and Chip an' Dale, and the Nutcracker one. We then see scenes from the films Peter Pan, Pinocchio and Cinderella, and treated to an early Mickey Mouse short Mickey's Good Deed, which really touched me. The highlight though, was Jiminy singing When You Wish Upon a Star, which is a jewel of a song in my opinion. In conclusion, look out for this, because it is something unique and special. 9/10 Bethany Cox

Pure Disney Magic
Christmas-Reviewer9 September 2017
BEWARE OF FALSE REVIEWS & REVIEWERS. SOME REVIEWERS HAVE ONLY ONE REVIEW TO THEIR NAME. NOW WHEN ITS A POSITIVE REVIEW THAT TELLS ME THEY WERE INVOLVED WITH THE MOVIE. IF ITS A NEGATIVE REVIEW THEN THEY MIGHT HAVE A GRUDGE AGAINST THE FILM . NOW I HAVE REVIEWED OVER 300 HOLIDAY FILMS. I HAVE NO AGENDA.

Jiminy Cricket hosts an all-star musical salute to the Christmas season with songs from Disney movies (Snow White/Cinderella/Pinocchino) and Short featuring Donald Duck, Chip & Dale, Goofy and a special rarely seen gem from 1932 "Mickey's Good Deed". Great Disney fun!

Join Jiminy Cricket as he hosts and performs in this all-star celebration of yuletide fun for the whole family. Featuring the holiday antics of Donald Duck, Chip N Dale, and Goofy, this cavalcade also offers special Christmas surprises: Mickey's Good Deed, a vintage gem from 1932 starring Mickey Mouse and Pluto, that has never been released on video!

You will Enjoy scenes from such great Disney Classics as Fantasia, Peter Pan, Pinocchio, Cinderella and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. And hear these Disney song favorites: "You Can Fly" - Peter Pan; "Cinderella" - Cinderella; and "I've Got No Strings" and "When I Wish Upon A Star" from Pinocchio.

This isn't really a Christmas Special but a promotional video for Disney Animated Classics. Still worth watching but in reality this isn't really about Christmas

Even though it's all archives, it's lovely.

I've also seen this footage put together with extra cartoons and film clips to create a longer special that came out in 1983 called "A Disney Channel Christmas" (remember, this was during a time when animation was still terribly expensive, especially the high-quality Victorian style that Disney specialized in). Here, it's about 45 minutes as opposed to the 90 minute special I saw and had been broadcast on television before then. But in any form, its still priceless.

It's hard to come across this sort of modesty and friendliness in Christmas entertainment these days. All of which goes to show that one doesn't need a lot of flash and commercialism to get a rise out of an audience when it comes to a program like this one; all it takes is honest warmth and heart.

This is the sort of Disney television special that simply doesn't get made anymore: an anthology consisting of touching moments from famous Disney animated films as well as cartoon shorts with back-then new animation between them all to give the presentation as a whole holiday structure.

Okay, now that I've described the technical part of it, let me describe the emotional: I can't help but be touched by it. It's hard to imagine segments like Peter Pan's famous "You Can Fly!" song, presented here as a Christmas card, *not* being appropriate to the holiday season due to the sheer loveliness of the original piece. And it's always fun to watch cartoons such as Goofy attempting to demonstrate how to ski. But for me, the best moment is when after all of this, the special wraps itself in cozy innocence in the end by having Jiminy Cricket sing the famous "When You Wish Upon A Star" as a Christmas carol with Disney characters gathering around to blissfully melt together in a moment which somehow strikes both nostalgia and holiday spirit in such a way that it gives you the sort of feeling you get when filled with peace and joy looking out the window at the stars while at ease by a friendly fireplace. I love it.

The climax brought tears to my eyes back then each time I saw it: it still does now.

Thumb up for The Disney Channel Christmas Special
PizzaTimeCritic22 October 2022
I love The old school Disney Channel, I love Christmas, and I love this special when I was kid in 90s. A Disney Channel Christmas is was magic, nostalgia, and memories but this special is not for everyones it's for friends, and family.

We remember seen stock footages from classic Disney animated movies and cartoons in this were kid in 90s. Its was 87 min long But their didnt release on VHS and DVD, its was VHS version called "Jimmy Cricket's Christmas". Its was 47 min long.

I can't wait to see this full 87 min special in the Christmas future. This is how I love this Disney Channel Christmas special.

A good collection of Disney stuff.
Mightyzebra3 December 2007
There is quite a lot of Disney stuff in this, including Chip and Dale, Goofy and Mickey Mouse himself. It also has songs from the films "Peter Pan", "Snow White", "Cinderella" and "Pinnochio" and is "narrated" by Jiminy Cricket himself.

One annoying thing about this is that part of Goofy's short is cut out (at the beginning) for some absurd reason. Apart from that, this is a very good Christmas film to watch, so this is recommended at this time of year.

This is recommended for quite young children, although some adults may enjoy it as well, especially if they grew up liking the sort of things featured in this video. Enjoy "Jiminy Cricket's Christmas" for this holiday season! :-)
