14 years ago today, the TV series “24” premiered on Fox, with the buzzy format of each 24-episode season covering 24 hours in the life of Counter Terrorist Unit agent Jack Bauer, played by Kiefer Sutherland. The show premiered less than two months after the September 11 attacks, making Bauer’s efforts to protect America from terrorism plots that much more resonant with viewers. “24” lasted for eight seasons, earning several Emmy Awards along the way, including one for Outstanding Drama Series in 2006. Last year, it was revived for a 12-episode limited series. Other notable November 6 happenings in pop culture history: • 1965: The Rolling Stones’ “Get Off Of My Cloud” took the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was their second No. 1 hit — “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” had topped the chart earlier that year. • 1967: Bob Dylan recorded “All Along the Watchtower” in Nashville, Tenn. • 1981: “Time Bandits” opened in U.

Now available on DVD, Mickey's Magical Christmas: Snowed in at the House of Mouse has managed to become a favorite since it first hit the scene almost ten years ago. I'm actually a tough sell when it comes to animated holiday efforts (my plate is full), but this one is a great combination of stories, and it's put together in a way that's great fun for the kids. Mine, for example, are huge fans of all the moments that come between the main courses. Tis the season at the House of Mouse, and a huge crew of Disney characters find themselves snowed in. To take everyone's mind off their predicament, Mickey and Minnie play some "home movies." The featured treats are: Donald on Ice, Pluto and the Christmas Tree, The Nutcracker, and Mickey's Christmas Carol. All of them solid efforts, but the last two are the real stars.
