J. Keith: the perfect host
gaystereotype15 January 2003
I have absolutely no idea why J. Keith was replaced by Blaine Capatch. Not only was J. geeky, cute and the right age, he also had very good hosting skills. Blaine is (or was) not cute, and rude. We got enough theatrical rudeness from the geeks themselves, which was plenty. J. neutralized the tension between the contestants and geeks. Bring the show back with J. Keith!

The best game show in a long time.

How could you not love this game show? All of the trivia is about movies, television, music and other genres of pop culture. This is a highly entertaining show that's about entertainment! So tune in and test your knowledge, if you look at this website, you should enjoy this program!

My personal favorite
tromatical27 July 2002
This is my favorite TV quiz show, and I'm not just saying that because I want a position on the show as "The Troma Geek". This show is fast and it is funny. The only negative thing about it is it's revolving cast: since it began, they've had two hosts and three music geeks. Still, Mark, Paul, and Tiffany, the show's mainstays, do a wonderful job. It is my opinion that this cast cast is the best yet. I look forward to seeing more of this show.

TV isnt as low as it was
DuctTapeMahn10 November 2002
this show is great. its in lowbrow your face comedy is funny. the geeks not only are funny, but they are excellent in there fields of knowledge. but unlike most game shows, the geeks have weakness. they actually get some of the easy stuff wrong. the geeks are actually human as opposed to jeopardy where you need 11 doctorates and 20 years of college to get the easy questions right.

this show is also educational. i know a great amount of all three of the main areas of trivia, but i learn something knew from each episode. the guest geeks are cool, but they need more variety in the geeks. like have a geek for a specific movie, tv show, or band more often. and who else thinks the playboy geek is just a pervert who's only girlfriends are the centerfolds?...haha

the host isnt that bad, blaine is in your face and looks like a geek. but J Key has a geeky voice. im sure J Key went to bigger and better things by using his geeks fame, so i understand bringing in a host.

the prizes also dont suck. trips to movie studios, new york, sound systems, home theater systems, and roles in B horror movies. those are geek prizes and they actually are worth something.

they also need to show ways how the public can be a contest or a guest geek. i would love to try my luck as a contestant. or even as a guest geek. i got the knowledge to kick almost anyones ass at saved by the bell. bring it on.

The most annoying game show on TV!
net_playm825 April 2002
I think this show could be good. I love trivia games but rarely know the answers on this one because the questions are too youth-oriented, but that is not my gripe. I just don't like the way the show is put together. The host is dull, and although made up to look like a geek with short hair and black-rimmed glasses, he seems pretty dull-witted too. And the geeks! Why do the producers give them those stupid lines to say to the contestants?? I want to punch the music geek every time he opens his mouth; the only real joy I get from the show is seeing him lose. And his hair! As David Spade told Michael Bolton, "No matter how much you got in back, we all know what's goin' on up top!" If you like those SNL scripted opening monologues where fake audience members ask the hosts dumb questions, you'll like "Beat the Geeks." If you want a smart, funny game show, watch "Win Ben Stein's Money."

The only reason I still watch Comedy Central!
OWUbear7 September 2002
I love this show! The geeks are pompous enough, but the viewer can understand, after all, these geniuses are there for a reason. I also recently found out that the Movie Geek was, like me, born in Cincinnati, and in my opinion would be the toughest to beat. I wonder though, why was Blaine Capatch chosen to succeed J. Keith? Mr. Van Stratten sounded geeky (no offense, but it's true) and Mr. Capatch does not, although he is rude enough to the losers at the end of each round. Tiffany stands out as the cute one. If I become a Geek, it would be the Presidents geek. I also would probably laugh at the Geek who loses a medal to me or offer a witty comeback to a geek I'd challenge.

i love beat the geeks...when i first started watching it i thought it sucked but the geeks possess a charm that draws me to them. a few minor changes like the prizes from troma have also really enhanced the show. it's probably the only show i would like to be on. blaine capatch is the epitome of that really cute geek that you aren't supposed to like (but do) and he brings with him even more appeal. as with many other excellent and under appreciated shows- beat the geeks will most likely be canceled in the near future but hopefully comedy central will be able to produce more innovative entertainment in the vain of beet the geeks and avoid crap like win ben stein's money.

new host?

Bring back J. Keith Van Stratten!! The new host is a little too full of himself to be watchable! Don't get me wrong....I love the show, and wouldn't want to take on any of the geeks, especially the Music Geek, but J. Keith had a coolness that Blaine

Capatch can't match.

The best thing about it was its short lifespan
brockmporter12 September 2005
Warning: Spoilers
"Beat the Geeks" was essentially a time-filler for the Summer 2001 lineup. It was an irritating, low-budget, slow-paced yawner of a game show that didn't fulfill its network obligation of even being funny. Thankfully, the network goons at Comedy Central had the grace to let this one die, a process they are still struggling with at the time of this writing for the likes of "Drawn Together" and, to a greater extent, "Primetime Glick".

The premise was this: There were three Geeks, a TV, Music, and Movie geek, who acted as defenders. The contestants were challengers, and had to outscore the geeks. Now, these were not respectable, Ben Stein-types geeks. They were low down, "I live in my mother's basement and am 35 years old and spend my time hanging out at a comic book store with other unemployed middle-agers bad-mouthing all the 'conformists' on the sidewalk" type geeks. Furhtermore, we are never really told what makes each Geek an authority. Just these guys are geeks. Beat them. You don't have to beat all geeks; just these geeks.

The show was ungodly slow-paced. In fact, it made it seem that each 22-minute program had maybe 10 questions actually written for the show, and they were purposely pacing themselves to ensure they didn't run out of questions. The Geeks had correspondingly more difficult questions, which didn't strike me as particularly unfair. What was entirely aggravating were the 45-second answers each geek would give when asked a question, let you forget that they are geeks (which, I assure you, was not a heavy risk to largely to their haircuts which looked like the sort of thing you might have run into at Comic-Con 1976). For example, when asked, "Who played Mrs. Brady on the Brady Bunch?" the TV geek would reply with the actresses filmography, other TV shows, guest appearances, commercials, a list of past spouses, and her hometown before actually saying her name, Florence Henderson, two words which, if spoken at a comfortable speed, could easily be said inside of a second.

Accordingly, the questions were spaced out in intervals of about 90 seconds. Thus, the actual asking of a question was a pretty special occasion, considering this was a game show, though the fact that questions were only worth about 25 dollars apiece made the average winning prize about $275, which probably didn't even cover air fare.

All in all, not a good show. I'm happy to see it gone. And I will rejoice again when it appears that Primetime Glick has finally "Gone the way of Beat the Geeks".

Such A Great Show
adaros12 July 2003
for any movie or tv lover out there this is a great show. the geeks are amazing at their knowledge of music, tv, and movie - yet the movie geek certainly proves that he knows almost everything about every movie (he so hard to stump!!) anyways it's a great show because it's tests your knowledge as well as being fast-paced and having a great 22min show. you just can't help but laugh been Blaine yells "the Geek-QUALIZER!!!!!". great show, good laughs, and a way of widening our movie knowledge! yet i think there needs to be harder questions for the movie geek, because i haven't seen anyone beat him yet!

Unbeatable
CursedSlytherin1 March 2003
This is by far the absolute best television game show on the air. It is extremely unfortunate that Comedy Central replaced its time slot with the less worthy night time talk show that now haunts the station.

The show has it all: comedy, fabulous prizes, excellent trivia, and intellect. Not only does it appeal to the trivia buffs and other geeks of the world (raises hand), but it appeals to those who wish to keep the intelligent side of television alive and running.

TV does not have to be brainless, and Beat the Geeks proves it.

My rating: a perfect 10

New incarnation may prove as good as original
perni11 July 2002
First of all, what is with the guy who thinks Win Ben Stein's Money is a better show than this? Nothing compares to Comedy Central's Beat the Geeks game-show wise. Not Make Me Laugh (more like Make Me Gag), not Let's Bowl (an odd idea from the start), and not the tired, worn out Ben Stein's Money. Anyway, let's talk about the show. It recently got revamped for its new season, with lots of cosmetic changes like new robes for the geeks and a fancier set and a few alterations to the old rules. Now in the first round, if you get an answer correct, you go up against a Geek to see who buzzes in first with the right answer. It's weird that they only changed that one part of the show, but it doesn't affect the flow that much. Now for the new host: I think I'll grow to accept him, but for now I prefer the old guy, since he seemed more laid back and didn't make near as many weird jokes as this new fella. I also noticed that Tiffany plays a larger role now, showing up with the grand prizes and making more commentary than usual. The geeks are still as cool as ever, especially the rolly polly TV Geek. No one seems to want to challenge the guest geeks though, and they're usually the ones I want to make fun of. The South Park Geek, the Michael Jackson Geek, the Star Trek Geek...they never got their dues, man! Anyway, check this show out if you like useless trivia and think you have what it takes to...Beat the Geeks! Ha, I love it.
