Maurin the poacher.
ulicknormanowen6 July 2022
Jean Aicard wrote a sequel to his novel "Maurin Des Maures " ,"l'illustre Maurin" ; so it was only natural that André Hugo filmed both novels .

More a series of colorful vignettes of Provençal life in the Massif des Maures ( "plateau of the Moors ") a small mountain range in southeastern France. It is located in the department of Var, between Hyères and Fréjus. Some scenes were filmed on location.

The script is disjointed and includes subplots which begin in the first installment;hence the difficulty to follow the story ,if you have not seen the prequel : Cesario ,in search of his mother, saved by Maurin from the dangerous town (Toulon, like Marseille ,was a town where evil reigned ,it was a recurrent feature for country people) .Best scene is the wealthy man who wants to become a deputy and gives away lots of presents to the inhabitants of his native village where he triumphantly returns ."That' s what they call "demagogy" "says Maurin the poacher , proving that country bumpkins are not so dumb. As usual ,director André Hugon signs the movie (like he would do for a letter) after the final picture .
