Another Day caught my interest from the beginning & challenged me
TexasGrama3 September 2006
It was a lovely story, I think, but I was confused a good bit of the time. I wondered if the movie started before I started watching but was nearly sure it didn't. The actors and Shannon were talented in this role. She is beautiful. I pretty much caught on to the story before the end but was busy trying to figure it out the whole time. I did search it out on-line and found the IMDb website which I found very helpful in clarifying my confusion when I was able to read comments from others and find that others were also in varying degrees of confusion. I didn't choose the movie but when I overstayed the previous one on Lifetime I could not go on about my planned activity for the afternoon because I was "hooked" into it very quickly. It was a good exercise for my sometimes lazy brain.

Neary gets its right
howie739 February 2005
This is quite unlike any TV movie I have seen in a long time. From the outset, the sense of impending doom is omnipresebt, signified by the lead character's retrospective, all-knowing narration which sets the story up for the viewer as a tale of two parts and two people, united by a common theme - love. Shannen Doherty gives a powerful performance, as well as her co-stars. The problem I had with this movie was the fact it felt restricted by its TV movie conventions, even though it tried in vain to emulate a Sundance-style independent drama. I was impressed by its intentions but less so by the intrusive music which often spoiled the sense of eerie mysticism that was conveyed so well through the fluid cinematography.

Wrong
single_in_inna3 September 2006
Warning: Spoilers
OK some at least one of the summers on here is wrong. The person says the move keeps going to and from the past in between the story. No it never does that but twice. Let me also say that he was not her husband at the beginning her was her boyfriend her friend on the phone after the boyfriend dies tells someone on th phone when they call her boyfriend just died. There is a part where he may or may not be her husband after she goes back. But it is never clear as to rather or not they got married. Also the move is so not confusing if you watch its very simple. The actors are good. I felt like there could have been more to the story and there are some loop holes in th e plot. But for a made for t.v movie it was nice and charming.

Another Day
kerryanneo19 March 2005
Another Day - this movie requires you to watch it another day to understand it. I thoroughly enjoy watching Shannen Doherty and I was quite interesting in seeing how well Julian McMahon and Shannen appeared together following the roles they played in Charmed. I can certainly PRAISE the acting skills throughout the film, even the directing - but the plot...what happened? I am at a loss for words because I am still confused. I have to stay loyal to the actors who really did a good job considering the madness of the plot. I also have to recommend you watch it because despite the plot-madness I would still watch it over and over again.

A movie I thoroughly enjoy
critterkid_137 May 2009
A comment i keep seeing about this movie is that the plot at times does not make sense. I have the answer as to why.

The movie was written by my aunt and uncle, Don MacLeod and Helen Frost. When my aunt and uncle write, they write their movies in a format appropriate for release on the big screen. TV movies require huge amounts of plot to be cut out for the allotted time period. As such, important details were cut out of the movie itself which sometimes made the plot a little hard to follow. If you read the original script written by them, the plot makes complete sense, but for the sake of time compression, key events and plot happenings had to be taken out.

A beautiful tale with twists and turns.
2thumbs-18 February 2005
I thought this movie was superb. Shannen Doherty and Julian McMahon were brilliant together in this.

This movie is a good watch for people who believe in destiny and fate. It shows that no matter what one does to prevent a regrettable incident from occurring, when given the chance, destiny will take over. I watched it not knowing that is was a thriller, but it really did keep you wondering what was going to happen in the end and what actually happened at the beginning. Shannen Doherty's narration at the beginning and the end made it seem more real and the amazing camera shots of the river was truly beautiful.

It had me shouting at the TV telling Kate what to do and the movie affected me so much that I was crying.

If you liked the movie Sliding Doors, then this is the film for you. I really recommend that you give this movie a chance as it has everything a TV movie should have. Love, drama, suspense and above all, Julian McMahon.

Approach With A Barge Pole
UACW10 December 2001
We watched this movie twice and were not wiser for it. And each time we not only asked ourselves 'what is happening?' but 'why are we watching this movie?'.

Yet we all wanted to get to the end so we'd seen it, so we really knew there was no more to it than that. So we could know that this was a terribly constructed screenplay with enormous gaps, all too slow a tempo, no golden thread, and a whole lot of confusion as icing on this not too palatable cake.

So we did all get to the end - twice - and now we know. Approach this movie with a barge pole.

recommendation to watch it!!!
hania_0079 February 2005
OK people- i admit the film did drag on a bit in certain parts , BUT it was a good story and was done really well- the acting's pretty good too! i do recommend people to watch it only if they have a good amount of PATIENCE! And if you're a fan of 'Charmed' both Julian Mcmahon and Shannon Doherty are in the film!!! Oh and the story is quite confusing because it keeps switching back and forth between the times and some of the time i didn't know what the hell was going on but still its worth watching.

i gave it a massive 8 out of 10 so it cant be as bad as the other reviewer said!!

Wonderful Acting
skagnew11 December 2001
I think that Shannen Doherty exhibited wonderful acting in this movie. She's always been an excellent actress - but this movie seemed to make her stretch those abilities. The movie is about her husband dying in a warehouse fire. After 5 years, through a supernatural event, she gets the chance to relive the days before her husband's death. She tries to change the past, but learns the truth about what happened that day, and that if it happened before, it's meant to happen. I got really caught up in the emotions of the movie, and I think this is a great made-for-tv movie!

Seeing two actors from "Charmed" playing another role
arkhangel8 May 2003
Pace of this film is too slow. Funny thing is to see "Pru" the deceased sister making out with "Cole" the evil brother-in-law from the hit tv series "Charmed". I believe this would have had been more entertaining should it be a faster pace romance novel.

A movie of real quality
jim-122515 July 2006
If 'Another Day' is slow and drags for some, it certainly didn't for me. Perhaps I like slow - it allows opportunity to savour the developing plot, and to appreciate the varying relationships between the players. I've only seen this once on TV, but broadly agree with the accuracy of the competent plot summary submitted by Forest R. While I understand that the plot could appear confusing, I thought it made good sense and would reward anyone willing to put a bit of work into it.

There are quite a number of flashbacks, but they were used intelligently to link and illuminate points in the plot. My own feeling is that they were not overdone, and are a necessary part of the movie. One hears about 'out of body'/'near death' experiences, and I think this is what is being suggested happened to Kate after Meghan fell into the river, with the added twist of a time warp. This threw light on the truth about the fatal factory fire that occurred a few years previously, an integral part of the story. It was interesting to see two Kates at both showings of the fire - one outside and one inside the factory, each aware of the other. The Kate inside would presumably have coalesced with the Kate seen dragging herself out of the river at the end of her 'out of body' experience on the second showing of her rescue when she was found in 'reality' by the river patrol officer. At the start of the experience and its subsequent events, she was found by Paul as well, this being a mystery as we know Paul was dead years before the river incident. In passing, the duplication of the unique item made by mother and daughter in Meghan's craft class, worn by both David and Kate at the same time, struck me as very neat!

My main motivation for adding to the adequate reviews for this title is to put on record what a treat it is to watch a film of attractive characters working out a thoughtful storyline without resorting to foul language, smut or blasphemies. This is a wholesome offering, well acted and directed, and based on ideas which are cleverly presented. I can see no grounds for docking even one of its ten stars. Sadly, this is the real world, so there must be a fly in the ointment somewhere. I discovered the miserable insect when I searched for the DVD. There isn't one at this point in time! I was particularly hoping that there would be subtitles, clear but discreet, and possibly a director's audio commentary which would have been particularly pleasing. Why, oh why, don't film-makers give us the decent films on DVD besides showing them on TV and at the cinema? Reviewers of this title seem broadly agreed on its merits, so I would have thought it only sensible to make it available for home viewing. My wife and I would love to watch it again. This is a movie of real quality.

Shannen Doherty best yet
stevecharming27 October 2002
I have just watched Another day and thought it was great i thought Shannen Doherty and Julian McMahon were both incredible. Shannen is one of the most talented actresses i've seen in a long while, she made this film what it is. Altough it was hard to understand i understood what was going on nearer to the end, also Shannen is great at what she does and i don't understand why she hasn't hit our cinema screens with a great movie altough i can say with all my heart Charmed hasn't been the same since she departed. We miss you Shannen, best of luck. Steve

Too Many Flashbacks
whpratt128 November 2005
Any film that Shannen Doherty appears in usually is outstanding, and she gave a fantastic job of acting through out the entire picture. Doherty played the part of Kate, who lived with a guy named Paul and was deeply in love with him. There is an accident which occurs to Kate and from then on the entire picture is made up of constant flashbacks, almost to the very end of the picture. There was a point during the picture that I was beginning to feel like the story was repeating itself over and over again. As the story unfolded, it became quite an interesting story, but WAY OUT in Left Field. The romance that Kate has with two guys is quite interesting and Kate sure looked hot and sexy attracting for the poor two guys.

Kinda Stupid
sillygirl20033 June 2002
The only thing that made you sit and finish watching the movie was because of Shannen Doherty, and Julian Mchonn. The movie was very weird because you were trying to find out what was going on with the film.I don't think people should buy this movie.

Too many slow-moving elegiac scenes of rivers and skies, and not enough momentum in the story
SceneByScene24 November 2010
As a fan of 'Charmed', I was looking forward to this movie of 2001. Having seen Shannen Doherty in other TV films, I think she can hold the lead role in a film as well as she does her character in the 'Charmed' TV series. But sadly, this particular movie was not worth the wait.

There were too many slow-moving elegiac scenes of rivers and skies, and not enough momentum in the story. I feel I wasted 2 hours of my life watching this film, when in fact the movie could easily have been cut by half an hour. A bit of tightening of the script, cutting irrelevant scenes, and building up the back-story of the characters, all might have done the trick. As it was, the script was poor, the tone of the film was wishy-washy, the plot lacked structure, and the characters had no depth. Shannen Doherty was totally wasted.

I love Julian McMahon, but he was also wasted as an actor; though he did look delicious, which at least gave the film a little enjoyment! The movie was clearly just a vehicle for the two actors, fresh from 'Charmed'. But the script/director/production relied upon that factor to keep the viewers entranced. In fact viewers need a little more 'oomph' to a film, to keep us truly interested in the plot, than just a pretty couple wandering about in lovely scenery .

Only if you want to see McMahon & Doherty at the height of their 'Charmed' fame - for a pretty-pretty sight! - should you bother with this sadly disappointing film.
