LOCO LOVE is predictable fun.
silver-726 July 2005
LOCO LOVE is predictable fun. It is one of those films that after the first ten minutes, you know where it is going, and how it is going to end. This is a straight forward story that goes from point A to point B with very few twists along the way. Boy meets Girl. Boy and Girl hate each other. Boy and Girl love each other. Boy and Girl break off their relationship. Boy and Girl get back together. Fortunately there are enough fun scenes along the way to make the journey worth taking.

The beginning starts out a bit shaky with a jerky exposition and an incredibly bad mustache. It is apparent that this film was made on a very low budget. I thought I was going to hate this film. However, the story slowly became endearing. It's a Taming of the Shrew meets Trading Places kind of story.

The story was hampered by the producer/director trying to be too politically correct. The relationship between Donald and Cat also seemed a bit rushed, but it worked well enough keep my interest. What made this film entertaining was the cast of character actors and the little one-liners they were given.

While LOCO LOVE is not great entertainment, it is good enough to nuke some popcorn, curl up on the couch and watch this awkward, silly romantic comedy.

Light-hearted entertainment
bbbl676 January 2004
You can't really judge this movie for being too authentic. It's sort of a classic story genre, dating back to Taming of The Shrew from Shakespeare, but it's obviously no Shakespeare. Classic story, a firebrand woman who no man in their right mind would marry, gets married to a man through ulterior motives, but eventually they find love.

Acting is wooden, there's no real conflicts or sparks between the characters. And the movie does get a little draggy during the last half hour. But don't take it too seriously.

Really, That Bad?
katyzone28 June 2006
I rented several movies in the last week (slow/rest week) and this is the only one I enjoyed. Sorry, sadly, and an indication of how bad movies have gotten I guess?

The other movies I rented were Ultraviolet, The Last Drop, Denny Decker, Waterborne, Green River Killer, Brotherhood of the Wolf, Mesmerized, Sound of Thunder, and Around the Bend. Quite a difference in genres, so you can't say that is the problem!

At least this movie was about people and not things. Sure it had a lot of problems, but it is hard to fit such a long story into an hour and a half or whatever. And it was funny! For example: "Look, there are plenty of branches left that will hold you!" (When branch broke when guy was trying to hang himself.)

C'mon, lighten up everyone, I bet the next movie from this production company will shine!

Mi Crapa es Su Crapa

Poor cast, predictable story, bad audio, horrible wardrobe, appalling direction...it could not stink more. My eight-year-old son can do better with a cheap video camera. Avoid this turkey at all costs.

Major pet peeves: everyone mumbles and the stupid annoying fake moustache.

Waste of time and money
SCIENCEROCKS16 February 2004
This modern Latin take on 'Taming of the Shrew' is a complete waste of your time and money! The script throws out a couple of interesting ideas and characters but never develops any of them. A Hispanic gardener wins a lottery fortune on the same night his boss gets dumped by his rich wife. In order to open a new restaurant and hang on to his home, the boss agrees to marry the gardener's shrewish, but beautiful sister. The 'crazy' Mexican clan move in with the uptight white guy and before you can say 'ay carumba' they are all one big happy family. The pacing is slow, the look is cheap and the actors are badly directed. It makes 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding' look like a classic film!

truly bad acting
ragne10 April 2004
Well, the movie is entertaining if you want to see how low can an acting quality sink.

The main male lead - astonishingly horrible :(. But it does support the theory that having good looks will get you already half the way: in his case into a bad comedy with horrible cast.

The female lead - i know that she can even act though not in this particular movie - how did she ever end up in such a production??!

Rest of the cast - .. no comments.

This movie is a must for every wannabe-actor/actress for learning what should they avoid in the future.

2/10 - generous score

Not in mi casa...

With it's 7.2 rating here on IMDB, I decided to watch this movie. However, I would give it 4/10. The script is pretty cheesy and at some moments I kept on thinking to myself, nobody in real life would actually do something like that. A lot of the time, I found the acting to reflect the script. I definitely won't recommend for anyone to put themselves through this movie unless they are just looking for a cute movie. This isn't a high quality movie in the least, it's just cute.

You get what's advertised...and a little more
streetpretzel25 December 2006
The movie's a light romantic comedy. So how deep can the script really get? The story is harmless, and the humor is sweet, simple, and steady. The low budget only adds to the charm. They find some nice locals and have a simple but effective soundtrack.

The cast is familiar and gets the job done. It is more interesting to watch Laura Harring try on a different role than to see Hugh Grant once again reprise his "usual" character in another equally implausible romantic comedy. It is satisfying to get more smiles and laughs from a film that has far less budget and star power than the weak "You, Me, and Dupree".

It's worth the watch because it's what you expect...with a little more.

It was predictable and fake
happyjoy8121 January 2015
This movie seemed like my friends from up the street filmed it. (That is not a complimentary comment ) If the director would have given the opportunity for the audience to adjust then maybe it would have made more sense. There seemed to be a lot of jumping around in the script. Plus the way things end up with them was like blah blah blah blah. I was so disappointed with the movie. The actors didn't even seem thrilled with their lines. Oh and the fake mustache was ridiculous. How this movie made the amount of stars I gave it is just because I don't make movies and I'd hate to judge too hard. The movie did have a very clean content which was a breath of fresh air. I just wish that movies like this would couple morality with an actual interesting dialog. At times the movie dialog was so weak that you kept hoping for another line but it would just be something ridiculous sounding . I hope that this helps. If you have Netflix like I do and just watch things with your family and friends in the evening and don't really care if it is an amazing movie and want a clean movie, then watch this one. Just don't expect it to be tremendously entertaining.

Don't Waste Your Time

Warning: Spoilers
Even an extended cameo role by Barbara Eden cannot pull this turkey out of the fire. It is badly written, poorly directed, and the actors seem to be reading their lines from a teleprompter. The plot is loosely taken from Taming of the Shrew, rewritten into a long string of painfully caricaturish stereotypes, ranging from rich fat-cats to the iconic Beverly Hills lawn-mowing Hispanic gardener. Some of them were actually amusing in their laughable crudeness, especially the spell-casting witch of a mother in law. The leading lady is not convincingly Hispanic and rarely speaks any Spanish, although the rest of her supposed family seem genuine enough. Maybe she was adopted. I cannot say that the movie was excruciatingly awful, since I did manage to watch it through to the end, but I certainly don't recommend doing so. I have seen better quality of production in amateur theater.

A Nice Movie
David_Brown13 May 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Is "Loco Love" "Trading Places"? Not even close (despite the theme of the rich guy and the poor guy trading places in the film). "Trading Places" is a classic. But it is a nice little film, where rich guy Donald runs a restaurant and everything he has in life, is sunk into the the restaurant, but he loses it all when his new wife has an affair and gets pregnant with someone else's baby, and gets the marriage annulled. At the same time, his Gardner Miguel hits the lottery on his birthday, and becomes a millionaire. Miguel and his brother in law then go to Donald's home to resign, but find him unconscious. Earlier, he tried to commit suicide, by hanging himself from a tree, but he failed because Miguel did a bad job gardening (the branches were weak). When they spoke to him, he explained his story (spoilers ahead). And Miguel offered to finance the restaurant in exchange for him marrying his sister Catalina (Laura Elena Herring), who could not immigrate here from Mexico. The tough thing about Catalina (Kat), is she is a very strong willed woman who scared everyone she is around (Even Miguel), which is why she could not immigrate here ( or even get married). There is one scene where Miguel's son asked him what are you afraid of and he says " Your aunt Kat." She is actually perfect for Donald, which is shown early on when he makes pancakes in the middle of the night, and instead of putting on syrup as he planned , she explained that syrup is for breakfast, and makes a Mexican sauce that is for dinners. Of course, it takes awhile for Donald to realize that. Another problem for Donald is Miguel thinks that anyone who would marry for money has no honor, so as Donald and Kat start to fall in love, he sabotages the relationship by threatening to take the restaurant away unless he is not with her. For that reason, she goes back to Mexico , and he finally realizes that he would prefer her to the restaurant , keeping his home (which Miguel and the family moved into), or anything else. At the same time , his ex tries to win him back by appearing very sexy and he rejects her (although Kat thinks he slept with her). Finally he convinces her to comeback with him to his bungalow because he has presents for her. The presents were a wedding dress and shoes, which the ex thought was for her. He has her get out of the dress, drags her out, and throws her in the pool. When Kat sees that and the presents she realizes he really does love her. Coming back to California he is finally accepted into the family, because he does have honor ( choosing love over money). Of course, by then Miguel gave the restaurant away to.... Kat. As we learned in the film, She is someone who really knows how to make a restaurant work ( she has superior customer service skills), which when combined with his cooking makes a great combination. The film ends with Kat telling Donald to dance with your wife (her). So in the end, Donald has everything he ever wanted. In particularly, a wife who can not only understand his hopes and dreams, but can help him achieve them. Basically a nice little film. 8 of 10 stars.

Loco aw(ful)
March1531 January 2005
Writing about bad movies is easier. Just throw the insults in and that's it. Writing about really bad movies is somewhat harder. And then there is Loco Love. This will remain as THE movie that I "had" to stop watching because my DVD-player would not agree to play it. I can't blame it because the whole "movie" ( I don't know if the word can be used because I don't think it follows any standards of movie making itself). Loco Love is the word for low budget. There is practically no story ( a rip-off of My big fat Greek wedding ), no direction, the sound seems to come from space when people are near each other...and even one of the lead male actors seems to have a fake moustache. What were these people thinking? The one star in this system stands for awful but in my case it is funny kind of awful. Because this must be and is a joke.

Very cute
buffelina2217 November 2003
My boyfriend and I just saw this the other night and thought it was very cute. We loved seeing Laura Harring in a humorous role -- proof that she has great range as an actress! Also, in terms of plot, found the caste reversal of Miguel and "Oso" entertaining.

A cliché comedy, old jokes and an ending you can predict in first ten minutes
sawyersawyerfan13 April 2010
Being a Laura Harring fan I decided to buy the DVD despite the horrible reviews, thinking maybe the reviews weren't correct. ALAS! I was wrong. The movie was cliché, the characters were unconvincing and the storyline ..well lets just say you're better off watching paint dry. Yes I sound harsh, trust me it pains me to write such a review for a Laura Harring movie. But being a fan of hers from Mulholland Dr, I expected the sensual fiery Laura. However, she comes off mellow, dry and distracted in the movie. There are bits of comedy but are they worth watching the movie? NO. Watch this movie on a lazy summer night when you just want to make time pass.

Cheesy, Formulaic
ElderP20 June 2008
This movie is a definite cheesy formulaic romantic comedy. The biggest drawback is the acting, which is sometimes wooden and forced. In general not that great. On the plus side, the cinematography is good. Shot on location in California, it looks like a professional job (as opposed to your neighbor filming with the new camcorder). As for the plot, well as a formulaic movie it is exactly what you expect, but if you like Romantic comedies would you really want it any other way?? In general I would describe this movie like "Taming of the Shrew" meets "A Million to Juan" meets "Beauty and the Beast." My wife and I rented it from the dollar section of our local video rental store. It is an OK way to pass two hours, but I wouldn't buy the video.
