Good film
asterisk-893-1460335 March 2011
This Turkish movie is good adaptation of novel "Dervish and death" of prominent Serbian Muslim writer (not Bosnian) Mesha Selimovic. Its deeply thinking movie, but it falls behind comparing 1974 Serbian adaptation (there is even mini series from 1972 but I didn't watch). Problem for me I didn't have proper English (not to mention Serbian) translation, so I have to use online translation from Spanish, but it gave me anyway ability to follow the plot. It would be nice that some Turk translate this movie for English speaking public. Basically, this is a story of bad things happening to good man. Question is how people react in that situation, and main character, Nurudin, at the end remains faithful to his faith & goodness. Although it make him rarity, its also an example. Anyway, its very worth of seeing.

wonderful film about life
phlher20 January 2006
the dervis is a film about a lonely man who always ran away from real life. he has a bad habit of telling himself the real life is short and the important thing is life after death. He has devoted himself to god.the other things don't botter him.

but one day his crystal world is broken down. his brother is in prison and he hasn't got the power even for talking to the prosecutor about his brother. all his emotions is crashed into the real life. and he has to make decisions or disappear (a man said he is invisible at one scene)

the movie continues like that going to an tragic end.the characters and atmosphere is impressing.the movie gives its main idea with a pure and simple way.the main character a.p and his close friend c.b played their best performances

Sometimes life is too difficult to carry on

It is difficult even for a dervish who should think much about the meaning of life. In Ottoman Empire in the 19th century no human right was to be argued. It was possible for the ones who dare, who cheat or did intrigued. But in the real life we also have roles. We play a good character or a bad character. A good man can only play good man successfully. If one tries the opposite it is much more possible to be the loser. In dark tones and dark colours among dust film flows very slowly to one good man's bad fate. The film is very successfully cinematographed and screenplay is a very good adoption of the original book Dervish and the Death. Most of the Turkish actors are of theather origin and good at the mimics and gestures needed in close plan. You think and feel bad at the end of the film which mostly make a film of European origin successfull.
